Nice work! Curious, where did you purchase your cabinet decals? They look awesome!

The problem with the new next gen head decals is both sides are printed the same. So the right side one the state of California is actually backwards. It should be facing opposite of left side. Pictured is the original proto cabinet & I think the regular production was the same way. J

Also the state of Nevada is backwards.

I have an intermittent issue with Earthshaker and I'm trying to sort out if it's software or hardware.

Sometimes, when I get the 1 million "quick multiball" jackpot, the game does its lightshow, but the GI does not come back on until one of the two balls drain. Has anyone else experienced this, and is it a software issue or a hardware issue? If hardware, should I be looking at the relays?

Yeah, mine definitely has sounds during attract mode. I just finished a game, and not more than 1 or 2 minutes later the music plays for 10 sec or so...every few minutes. If you are certain that its turned on in the menus, maybe check your ROM version. This is what mine displays (see photo)

Yup, mine is different. Now I get to learn something new.

Speaking of rom revisions, anyone know what the differences are between them? Family version omits "bitchin", but other than that, I've had a hard time finding documentation. Mine appears to be running the first revision code and I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading or not.

La3 is latest.

Some light shows changed between early rev and later. Proto likely lists building instead of unused but all rev of the code work with the moving building.

Should always upgrade to latest unless there's some compelling reason not to.

I wonder what the deal is with my LU3 ROM version? I can't see any LU roms on IPDB. Game is an exported machine that seemed to live its life in Belgium & NL.

Dump em and post them somewhere might be able to figure out the difference.

There's a couple of tournament roms too but I don't think the were labelled lu

I saw an LU-1 version once - but i guess it is only something country/region specific at the end

Since yours is also an export, which ROM version do you have? Or have you updated it?

Can someone post of photo of the bottom of the playfield or confirm if Earthshaker used a bare ground wire stapled to the playfield for GI? I’m debating buying an Earthshaker that’s allegedly complete but is completely stripped of all playfield hardware/wiring harness dumped in the cabinet like a playfield swap may have been started. I do not want to go through the trouble of routing a bare ground wire if that’s how this game has the wiring harness set up. Thanks

It does have bare ground wire in spots.

It does but if the price is right the time it takes could work out.

That’s why I am on the fence, while it would be a good price for an Earthshaker, I don’t think it’s a screaming deal for the amount of work needed and the person who has it says it looks like everything is there, but they personally did not strip the game and there is no way they can know if it’s all there. All it would take is one missing part that is non obtainable and id be stuck.

Make an offer you are comfortable with in regards to the work needed.

It may be a project for someone who already has an Earthshaker that could fix up and then sell.

More progress from today. We get together every second Friday to move things. In between those Fridays- what needs to be ordered from the states/Europe gets placed immediately- and usually arrives by the next time we get together.

Finally got around to a full shop out of the Earthshaker I acquired a few months back. I don't think it had been done in at least a decade or so as some of the rubbers basically disintegrated when I went to remove them.

I didn't remove the playfield to do it and my machine didn't have rails to place the playfield on and slide forward. It was a major PITA to get the ramps, plastics and wireforms off of the back of the playfield without removing it. Really happy I won't have to do that again for a long time!

Has anyone ever seen a backboard decal for Earthshaker? Since we’re busy putting it back together I was thinking maybe I could do something with the back.

In other news - Got my chrome plated wireforms in today. Looking forward to seeing them in the new PF with the new plastic set

For some reason, ES seems to be one of the most difficult games in my collection to disassemble. I guess how the ramps are stacked up with the diverter on top makes for some big headaches...specifically if the PF is in the machine. I recently had the swing-gate start to become stuck when the ball rolled around and it was an absolute nightmare to fix it.

The ramp layering is worse than my Radical, CFTBL, and Road Show which all have ramps situated over other ramps.

You're making me not want to shop mine out, but it needs it pretty badly. I want to put LED's in the GI anyway so it will need to be done at some point I guess.

I thought Airborne and Diner were both pretty annoying to shop out, but now I think we may have a new winner in the race.

Do you guys not know the trick to slide a PF forward (to get at the back bits) by lifting the bracket slots off of the pivot bolts??
This allows you to access everything on system 11 games without completely removing the PF.

This ... and I use a covered 2X4 to support the back of the game to work on them while in cabinet!

Yes, and this is the best way to drop the PF into the cab I've found. Oops! That's something you only want to do once.

Long shaft nutdrivers and screwdrivers are essential here.

Would love to do this and I've heard of this before, but what exactly do I rest the bracket slots on? If I do that there isn't anything to set them on and pull the playfield forward. Wouldn't the playfield just crash into the bottom of the cab? What am I missing here?

Really?? lol I need to tell you to only pull it forward enough to reach the back parts, and not until it dumps into the cab?? I've done this with dozens of games, including my Funhouse (multiple times) that I just finished restoring... I haven't lost control of a PF yet! Just be careful! Geeez.

Yeah, I understand the concept completely. My question is - after lifting the playfield off of the bolts do you just rest the playfield wood itself back directly on the cabinet bolts and slide it forward with the PF wood resting on just the bolts, nothing else?

Yup, doesn't damage anything, slide slowly and carefully, if the pivot bolt hits a screw head or something at the very outer edge of the PF (very rare), stop!
Tip: Typically the left flipper coil-stop ends up on top the the lockbar receiver, that's usually far enough forward to reach everything and not dump the PF.

Got it. Appreciate the help. I'll try this moving forward - it has to be way easier than what I had to deal with

Its super easy, takes about 1 minute for me to do it, the hardest part is disengaging the brackets from the pivot bolts... I just get into the cab and lift from both sides and rest it on the backs of the brackets. Then carefully climb out while gently lowering the PF. Exact reverse to put it back.

My solo "climbing into the cab" method may not be good for everyone, but i'm 5'8" 155, so its no biggie... If you're a big heavy dude, obviously you'll want to have yourself and a buddy on the other side to lift it from outside the cab.

Starting the restore of an Earthshaker... could use a picture of the J11 connector to the inter connect board.
In attached picture some has hacked the backboard lightning into the back of the interconnect board J8

So in tge picture provided to what connector do the circled connectors attach ... thinking the extra wire should have its own connector.

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

You got this. Here's what I've learned in doing a few shop outs myself:

1. Take a lot of pictures from all angles before starting the process. (including many close ups so you can tell where/what screws are located)

2. As you start to remove ramps, wire-forms and plastics, keep everything organized. I use zip lock bags to store the screws and nuts (hardware) for each item I'm removing and label each bag with a sharpie. (IE - "left skill-shot/spin-out ramp"). This makes it really easy to be sure you're using the same hardware for each piece when reassembling.

3. Remember the order in which you had to remove the various ramps and plastics. Reverse that order when reassembling.

4. If you're not sure about something or run into any questions, just post here on pinside and someone will help.

Most playfield parts that need to be removed for a shop out only have a few screws and/or bolts/nuts used to attach them, so it's pretty easy to not screw something up.
