Hi,

I’m about to attempt my first cabinet restore - The cabinet is in pretty decent shape with the exception of a thin bit of wood peeling away from the back of the back box.

What is the best approach here? I thought about busting out the glue and filler and cutting a new piece to the dimension and extending the depth of the head box.

Or do I remove the whole piece, replace and jigsaw the holes?

How critical are the air vents?

Hope this makes sense - game is a Lost World which i hope is a good candidate for a beginner !!

What's the game? I've never seen vent holes on an early Bally.

Edit: Oh, I see it's Lost World... not an "early" Bally. Unfortunately, I don't have a Bally of this vintage, so can't offer any additional help.

I had similar issue with my Mata Hari backbox. I used small pieces of wood (tedious) and lots of wood putty to seal and make everything relatively smooth.
Let's not forget that this is against the wall, and that you will never see it again..... So choose your battles accordingly...

Thanks - how important are vent holes ? Or are they there for looks?

May just be easier to make it to 100% flat if it’s just a cosmetic thing ....

Cheers

The transformer is in the head of that game, and will generate some heat. I would consider the vent holes more functional than cosmetic...
