Gottlieb Outer Space the thousands reel gets to the 8 and 9 digits and doesn't move beyond that for several "clacks". I see how to remove the assembly to inspect it and clean a few bits of it that I can reach, but how do I get to the plunger and take that apart to clean it? The plunger clicks fine on every other digit but it gets spongy/lazy at the 8 and 9 digits and only plunges about 80% of the way into the coil unless I apply extra pressure to finish its full range of travel. The pinrepair site is fine for an overview, but those old 640 x 480 pictures are hard to see much detail.

This issue is almost always the 9 position switch putting too much pressure on the wireform, and seldom has anything to do with the plunger.

Agreed with the 9 switch pressure. But here is a good video for disassembly. Take a bunch of pictures and be thankful there are other score units to compare to as needed.

I went away from this for a while since it was in storage. How do I decrease pressure on the 9 position switch? I've compared the reels on the non-working side to the reels on the working side and I don't see how that switch is incorrect between the two sides.

The wireform is having to move the switch too far. You need to adjust the 9 position switch so that it just closes as the reel rolls over to 9
