Quoted from Crispin:Thanks for chiming in guys. I ran the gear test and the arbor ran smooth in both directions and I couldn't stop it by applying some pressure on the arbor. I removed the gear box and checked the small gear on the motor's arbor and I couldn't stop it and it didn't slip. Since it passed these 2 tests I shouldn't have to take apart the gear box, correct?
I personally still would, simply to remove the old grease and re-lube it with some teflon lubricant. Old grease tends to solidify somewhat and get very sticky.
