The book is one of my favorite stories of all time. I have IMAX tickets for Thursday night with some friends. Am I expecting miracles? Certainly not, but I hope it's a faithful adaptation.

Quoted from SonOfaDiddly:Dune, AKA 3 4-page Knife Fights of Consequence and a Whole Lotta Not Much Else
Clearly you didn't read and/or don't understand the book.
Didn't Herbert say at one point he thought the book was unadaptable? Either way, the reviews seem to be polarizing. Audiences either loved it or hated it. I'll let y'all know on Friday what I thought. Going to see it on the big screen at the local IMAX Thursday night.
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:around $165
That seems low for a film of this magnitude. Maybe it was an experiment to see if they could produce a blockbuster on a budget. DUNE is a pretty well-known property too. One thing's for sure, it's definitely being talked about. Not every movie gets its own thread here, and it seems to come up regularly in conversation, but maybe I just have nerdy friends.
Whoaaa what a cinematic experience that was! I really enjoyed the adaptation. I was not a fan of the 1984 movie at all but this one really did a great job. 8/10 for me and absolutely must be seen in IMAX.
The gender swap didn't bother me much either, though at this point it's just an annoying Hollywood trope.
Quoted from xsvtoys:It isn't necessarily inherently bad, if done for a logical reason. I haven't heard of any explanations of why this should be done in this instance. As far as the Dune story and Dune universe goes, there isn't a particular reason that a male character should be changed to a female to make things more even. The females are more than well-represented and important, in fact, for the most part, they pretty much control the males, to the point of kicking their asses. In fact when the Honored Matres show up later on in the stories, they are downright frightening.
Oh believe me I am definitely on your side. I would never gender swap any character. I have heard that was a studio requirement to Villeneuve, which would make sense. Now Kynes is the mother of Chani? Not sure why that's any more or less significant than the original being her father. My point was at least it didn't detract from the emersion of the film, which it has done for me often with other films.
Quoted from Frax:part 2's been greenlit.
I saw! Can't wait!
Quoted from Frax:Agree to disagree. If you want to hold the reins, you have the responsibility for the final product.
I mean can't you apply the same logic and say it's the producers' fault? I love the movie, just saying.
I enjoyed Part II a little more despite the obvious departures from the book. I thought the pace of the second movie was better.
Quoted from Doctor6:I also feel that the Fremen were way too quick to accept Paul as their messiah
This is a big one. They condensed 3 years of time into 6 months, so it felt a little rushed. I understand why they had to do it for the movie though. And yes other changes I thought were done really well. Overall, I'd say 8/10. It was a feast for the eyes.
