What are the dumbest things you've read online or heard other people say about pinball?

I remember reading an article online about someone's trip to the Pinball Hall of Fame. For some stupid reason he couldn't stop raving about Starship Troopers and compared every machine there to it. I don't think he even talked about the true classics like TAF or LOTR. Don't get me wrong, Starship Troopers is a good machine, but I don't think it's the God of pinball machines...

"Are you a pinball wizard?" At least once a week...

Have I ever mentioned I am not a fan of The Who? I hate that song.

My 18 year old daughter had a group of friends over and they all called my pins ping pong machines and they had a blast playing them for a couple hours

"You must make a lot of money from those games in your home!"

.....obviously, I put my own quarters in, and my family, and make money doing this!

"Your wife lets you keep those in the house!?"

Any game for sale with a production run of 10,000 or more advertised as rare.

Nothing dumb about that. It is truth!

I know I shouldn't take it that way and I am a bastard but I don't think little kids and pinball mix. I think if you have to stand on a chair to play the game is not designed for you. I hate when people see them and say my kids would love this and they have kids all under the age of ten. I'm like what....... They just bash the flippers for 30 seconds and walk away. My brothers kids when they were little refused to grasp the concept that the flippers are for hitting the ball. They would smash the hell out of the flippers unless the ball was near them, then just watch the ball drain. What is the point

DO YOU KNOW THAT PINBALL WIZARD SONG?

When I told my father that I started a pinball collection, he went on and on about how some aunt in our family had a gambling problem and lost tons of money at the casinos, and how I should be careful the same thing doesn't happen to me. WTF one thing has to do with the other I have NO idea.

    #18 4 years ago

I pre-ordered MG, RAZA, and Predator two years ago.

Pinball machines are historically gambling devices.

Pinball used to be a gambling game, pre 1947. Even after, they were making Bingo pinballs until the 70s, which were also for gambling.

I once saw these frat boy types at a bar playing an X-MEN pro. one of them locked a ball and another said, "Oh that's bad. You don't want to do that."

"Wow! How many machines are in this room? Must be nearly 30!!"

I've had 3 people say that now. Including one yesterday. 30 just seemed like a random number. (FYI there's 94)

Somebody once told me that you could "reset" a pinball machine by forcefully picking the front end up about 12 inches off the floor and letting it crash down.

Usually this "reset" was needed after a frustrating drain.

I haven't tried it... and even after witnessing an unsolicited demonstration, I have my doubts about its necessity?

Me - "Sounds good, what's the bar called?"

    God honest quote!

When someone is trying to buy a game from me and says "I'm not a flipper!"

    1) I don't care what you do with the game. You give me what I want for it, and you can flip it 10 minutes later for twice the amount if someone will pay it...IDGAF.

    2) It's a pinball machine. You're going to get bored of it eventually, and sell it, and probably try to sell it for more. I don't care.

    3) Somehow this phrase always comes with a paragraph about how I should sell them the game for less, which actually DOES affect me/my wallet whereas flipping the game does not, which makes me just think the person is an idiot. Or thinks I am one.

    #40 4 years ago

It was something about a monkey paw ? I have no clue what the hell this person was talking about but apparently it was about pinball .

My oldest (ha) daughter is not yet 2 and she loves pinball. Of course she doesn't really know what she's doing. She also doesn't know how to not poop in her diaper when the urge hits. But when she sees a pinball machine she points and yells "pinball machine!" and pulls up a chair, presses the start button, and starts flippin. Cute and awesome, not dumb But I suppose I'm biased.

I'm with nevus. Being asked if I'm a "pinball wizard" on a daily basis gets old.

    #43 4 years ago

Some who visit for the first time come up with this revelation, which they eagerly share-

"You should charge quarters! You'd make a ton!"

Really? Charge my friends, family, kids?
