Should this be his hard? Getting these 10 springs back on this 5 bank drop target assembly is a damn nightmare! Any tips?

These game has 3 of these assemblies! Not excited to do this again.

A spring hook helps.

Are those Gottlieb drop target banks? If so, they are a nightmare. Clay has a tip out there to use a Drexel tool to make a cut. I forgot the specifics, but I'm sure the info is out there.

Hi Rascal_H
Up to now I never had to do this work on my Far Out. I do have links that may help:

You need a spudger. I did a 10 target assembly and these are a must have.

Yeah, definitely gonna have to save this for another day when I have some tools. Gonna order some new springs too since I've stretched the hell out of them with my fumbling fingers.

Was looking at this set from Harbor Freight that has an assortment of hooks.

Thanks for the links everyone!

Now looking to find these rubber grommets used as switch pads on the assembly.

Those are Gottlieb part number #986. It has 2 "reset arm return springs" #A-13455, also has 2 different springs for each target. One is A-12178, and the other is A-5081.

Pinball Resource has all of these.

Here's a great video demonstration on the rebuild. This is how I learned. Although, I had it ass backwards upon re-assembly.

Patience....

Oh wow, thought it used all the same springs. Thanks!

The papinball guide which Rolf cited is indeed very helpful for replacing the Gottlieb drop targets, and it also includes an important reassembly note near the end:

"When reinstalling the bottom plate, make certain the drop target reset arm, (the single pivot arm that runs the whole length of the assy.), is away from the bottom plate. If not, there is a chance the reset arm stop screws on the bottom plate could actually "pin" the reset arm permanently in the rest position. Hence, the drop targets will never reset."

Yup. We did this method on Todd Player's Jumping Jack and his Pin Up. We used what we had on hand: a Sawzall. Very dangerous and tricky (old target can melt from the heat) that way, but we made all the needed cuts so I could replace all his drop targets for him.

Pinwiki also shows how to do it. I wrote up the same method as shown in the video. I put the stopwatch there in the pictures to show that it takes around 39 minutes and 12 seconds to clean up (ultrasonic cleaner) and rebuild one of these assemblies, using no special tools.

I'm not sure if I'm doing them the perfect way. It I completely disassemble. Hit all the metal with a mix of scotch pads and metal cleaner (brasso). On the tougher spots I'll use a wire brush attached to my drill. I replaced all the drop target plastics and used new springs where needed.
