I joined the club a few months ago. She is in amazing shape, I felt pretty lucky snagging it. Everything was all stock on it so I've been working the last several weeks doing some upgrades: Shopped out, full LEDs (That was a job!), put some led strips in the shooter lane and ball drain area. Rebuilt the drop targets and added my own custom decals. I wasn't a fan of any of the drop target decals for sale on the various vendors sites so I made my own. Pretty tedious job but they turned out really nice. Also installed some pretty sweet green glowing towers that were made by @devilsmuse. So much better than the flat mounted plastic ones. Next up is a color dmd!

Is that my machine Looks great! Similar to what I did

Ha! Thanks carteret! Great minds think a like huh. This is a fun machine to upgrade. Forgot to mention I also have some decals from tilt graphics that I'll be putting in tomorrow.

Quoted from punkin:

Cool stuff, looks like you have the deadworld mod, so not completely stock?

Nope it's original, no dead world mod. Still rocking the original code with the virtual locks lol. On the fence about getting the dead world mod though...

I'm still deciding what type of dmd to go with, leaning towards LCD over LED at this point. But I think either one would look awesome.

#4028 2 years ago
Quoted from cartert:

Would like the side art too. Keep my machines kind of basic with a few personal add ons here and there. Need to replace my home made drop decals from yrs ago as have taken a beating

I hear you there, I'll be pretty much done after the graphics and new dmd....maybe there isn't much left to add after that anyway lol!

Yeah, we'll see how long my homemade decals last.
I printed out two extra sets so at least I got my replacements ready when needed.

#4029 2 years ago
Quoted from punkin:

Ahh ok, i thought i read that curved slots in the cover was original and straight slots were the mod. Must have it arseup or maybe i'm way out on the slot thing.

Yeah, you have it backwards. Original has the slots. I've read the dead world mod can be really finicky and cause issues if the machine isn't running perfectly. The mod sounds cool but I don't have any problems with how it currently is configured so I'm not sure if I want to risk it.

gameblade decals installed. Turned out great and they were easier to install than I expected.

Foxxstone_80 did you use soapy water to install them?

No, I put them on dry. I just wiped clean the inside of the cabinet prior to applying them. Pretty simple install.

Quoted from ChiTownPinHead:

Well, it wasnt the fliptronics board. Waiting on the opto board, and last I guess Its a coil replacement.

I had the exact issue you described in the upper left flipper. It ended up being the coil. I replaced the coil and rebuilt the flipper and it has worked great since.

I wanted to switch it up a bit. I did blue flipper rubbers and yellow post sleeves, but kept all other rubber rings black. Loving how it looks. Makes the post sleeves stand out in a good way I think.

Quoted from altan:

There was also a plastic liner you could put down there.

Definitely try a plastic trough liner. I had similar issues with my judge dredd when I first got it. Sometimes two balls would get kicked out at once for a regular game, or the machine would report a missing ball. Once I put in the plastic liner the issues completely went away. They're pretty cheap and easy to install...you just slide them into the ball trough from under the playfeild. https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-16809

hi everybody, i'm an happy owner of a jd, i tryed to read something about but too long to search,
so i try to ask you:
first: i'm looking for the deadworld mod, i found somewhere there was a cad design for the ring with holes, can you please tell me where to find?
second: i've seen i need the L1AT file, can someone share it with me?
third: the chimneys mod: i saw i need the simpsons parts and the designs to put on them, but is there a kit to let me mount them on the playfield?
thanks to everybody

I can't offer much help with the first two since I don't have the deadworld mod. But for #3, I bought these cooling towers. They were easy to install and look great.

Anyone have the CPR custom mirrored back glass? I've been thinking about getting it for a while, just not sure if it's a noticeable difference to the translite. I really like the look of older style back glasses vs newer translites. Just curious to know if anyone on here has bought this back glass and what their thoughts are on it.

Quoted from LORDDREK:Wow that is sharp! I’d be interested too. I wonder how the backlighting shines thru?

I would think it'd be a bit more muted than translite, but the color would probably be richer. I initially put 2smd bulbs behind the translite but it looked a bit washed out to me. I bet with the back glass 2smd bulbs would be ideal.

Important reminder that keeping the optos clean is very important in this machine boys and girls. Yesterday my wife put up a very surprising score of over 6 billion in regular game. She has never scored higher than 400 million. I wasn't with her when she was playing but I immediately suspected something was wrong with the game. My wife disagreed and was adamant it was all skill. I watched her play a second game, she got over 1 billion on the first ball. I noticed that one of the ramps was continually being activated even though a ball wasn't going up it. I let her have her fun and all my kids eventually joined in, each putting up scores in the several billions, shattering all my high scores and completely wiping me off the leaderboard. Today I cleaned all the optos on the ramps. They were all pretty dirty. Problem solved. My wife played a few games today and didn't score higher than 350 million. She begrudgingly admitted that maybe she wasn't just having a really good day yesterday.

Quoted from Bam_Man:

Just joined the club! Anything I should know/check to ensure the Judge runs beautifully?
[quoted image]

I've had my judge dredd for a little over a year now and luckily I've only had minor issues that I had to deal with so far. As I stated above, make sure your optos are clean. They are a big part of this game, they are all over, especially the ramps so make sure they are cleaned and it will prevent a lot of odd issues. The deadworld seems to be an issue for many owners, I've never had any problems with mine. I had an issue with the drop targets not fully resetting initially, the culprit was a broken thin piece of plastic that all the targets rested on inside the target bank (known as plastic target stop). The drop targets take a lot of abuse so this is a fairly common piece that breaks (I bought two so I have a replacement if I need it). Another common issue is the balls getting magnetized causing issues, such as more than one ball going into the eject hole at once. You can get a plastic anti magnetic shim that slides under the balls in the ball trough. I haven't had any further issues since I put the shim in. Most of the other issues I've dealt with were related to cracked solder joints.

Stick a rolled up shop towel/hand towel into the shooter lane to block the balls from rolling out as you lift the playfeild. Or better yet this is what I did: cut a strip of Styrofoam about the same width as the shooter lane and wrap it in duct tape. Just slide it into the shooter lane whenever you want to lift the playfeild.

Been thinking about switching up the star posts/rubbers a bit on my game. I currently have black star posts/black rubbers with blue flipper rubbers and yellow post sleeves. I really liked the look initially, but I think it's time to change it up. Thinking about switching to clear star posts and clear rubber rings (or glow in the dark for both) with maybe red flipper rubbers and red post sleeves....what do you guys think?

Ended up going with clear star posts/clear rubber rings, red flipper rubbers, and I kept my yellow post sleeves. Also I swapped blue leds into the dead world instead of red. It looks pretty sweet altogether. I was debating on lighting up the star posts also but with the translucent posts and rings it doesn't seem necessary to me.

Quoted from Shmilder:

How easy is it to replace the rubbers behind the drop targets? How much needs to be removed to get access? Thanks

It's not terrible, I just did it and also changed out the star posts. I believe it's just the plastics in the area, and both of the dead world disks. There may be a few screw from the ramp in that area you'll need remove. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Pro tip, if you have a spare rubber post sleeve, cut it in half and place one half on each post leading into the subway. The pieces should cover the bottom half of the post that aren't covered by the rubber ring. then put the rubber rings on the post, they shouldn't overlap the post sleeve you just put on but butt up right against it. This will keep the new rubber rings from getting chewed up.

A friend of mine has a set of Mike Chestnut chromed triggers.
He never ended up installing them, and has since sold his game.
Anyone know what they might be worth?

I've never seen a judge dredd with a gun handle mounted anywhere...are you sure it's not for something like demolition man? It looks nice though!

Now if there was a "lawgiver" gun handle mod that could be mounted on judge dredd I'd buy that in a second.

ColorDMD-Led version installed. Been a long time coming, I'm so glad I was finally able to get one! This thing is sweet! The colors are nice and bright; the pictures do a poor job of capturing how great this thing looks! If you don't have one, get one!

Has anyone bought the mirrored back glass for dredd? https://classicplayfields.com/shop/pinball-backglasses/judgedredd/
Keen to know if someone has one and their opinion if it’s worth it??

I posted this question previously here, probably a few pages back. I've been on the fence about buying one, but I've heard CPRs' mirroring isn't that great, more just shiny silver without much mirror quality to it, and my translite looks fine. So it seems unecessarry to me. I'd have to see some better pictures of it or here from someone who bought one to really convince me.

#4439 1 year ago
Quoted from durgee7:

Interesting. I saw Cary Hardy's video on his mirrored Johnny Mnemonic, and he seemed to be very pleased with the product. That makes me think JD would look good as well. I'm also interested in hearing from someone that has the JD backglass.

Do you have a link to the video you can post? I'd be interested to see it.

#4443 1 year ago

To me, the CPR backglass seemed darker and didn't look as nice as the original translite when lit up. He does seem really happy with it so maybe it looks better in person.

Added a topper. I didn't want to pay the $33+shipping so I made my own metal bracket to mount it. I don't have access to a break to make the angle, so I clamped it down and bent it by hand. I did the cuts with a metal shears. Metal was $11, and It took me about 1.5hrs so not too bad. It should work well.

Quoted from Thehipster:

Hi All.
I have just acquired a Judge Dredd.
I was sold it with an intermittent upper right flipper problem.
Turned out the flipper was not working at all and it was the fuse on the fliptronic II board.
The pin seems to be playing okay. I'm not up to speed with the rules at the moment.
The odd thing is that the game starts in superplay (2 balls) mode even when I press the standard start button.
All optos are okay.
I opted to reset to factory settings.
Any ideas please?

Do the 2 balls enter the shooter lane at the same time? I had this issue with mine and got an acrylic ball trough liner and that solved the issue.

Where did you get the blue Deadworld dome? Looks great.

Its just blue LEDs, I did the same with mine.

I've seen a red dome for sale on ebay though.
