Quoted from Pin_Fandango:

The dredd I just picked up is also having opto issues.
Upper left flipper does not work and dead world MB spits balls and the game loses count and after draining 3 the ball ends.
Have not looked at it yet. Like you, it sometimes works.
Leads me think it could be a cpu issue, or opto, or who knows. Have not had time to fix it yet.

If it were a CPU issue, how would one go about fixing it?

Supposed it was, then it could be a connector. Acid damage is commonly the cause.

Anyone know where I can get the “subway entrance” sticker in the States? I see one place makes them internationally but they don’t ship here…. Mine is a little worn.

*** Questions from a new Owner of a Judge Dredd w/ Deadworld Mod ***

Hello All;

I got lucky and my Pinside Wanted Add led to me purchasing a beautiful Jedd Dredd locally.

The Deadworld Mod worked great for several days! Then, started acting a bit goofy...

The things I've noticed so far:

1) Check Trough Switch 1 message.

2) Occasionally, during Deadworld Multiball, balls are re-launched until I collect all 4 Jackpots, then continue normally.

My machine is running a Pin-Tek CPU board equipped with a ROM labeled L1-AT Judge Dredd (LED) CPU U6.

My machine has a brand new looking set of Great Lakes Modular Trough Opto Boards.

The Crain Opto was working intermittently. I fixed that issue by replacing the wires from the opto to the connector, and the connector itself.

All optos now seem to work fine. (For good measure, I cleaned all of them.)

The Crain now unloads the balls perfectly every time, after which the Crain stops moving and the Globe stops spinning.

I understand that the Deadworld Mod uses pre-production software. Could both these issues be due to software errors?

For the Trough Switch 1 Error: I was playing the standard game exclusively, so only 4 of the 6 balls were ever in play at one time.
This "feels" like trough 1 was never used in the usual 30 games/ 90 balls, so the switch was tagged for the message.
Manually removing the balls and testing the trough Switch Edges clears the message. I think that playing the Super Game will also clear the message.

For the Multiball: This "feels" like I somehow managed to activate a test mode for testing multiball rewards. The Crain unloads all the balls on the first attempt, then stops, as it should. (It's not trying to unload balls that are not there.) After the last of the 4 jackpots is collected, the game stops relaunching balls and goes back to functioning normally.

Does everyone using this ROM Version have the same issues?

Are there any workarounds (other than uninstalling the Deadworld Mod)?

BTW: What is with the ROM being labeled "(LED)"? I can't find any reference to it online. The pin is equipped with LEDs, but for some reason, these LEDs don't piss me off. They don't seem to turn on and off as abruptly as most LEDs. Is that special software, special LEDs, or my imagination?

Thanks to everyone for their help!

- Mark

Hi All, wheres the best place to tap in for 12v around the scoop. Have some starpost lights i need to connect. Cheers

Not near the scoop (so requires some longer wires) but just hook them all into one ground wire and one for 12V and tap into the coin door interface board @ connector J2. Pin 4 (grey/yellow) is 12V and Pin 5 (black) is GND. Should have an IDC style connector with the built in splicer and they will accommodate double wires. Heaps easier to do if you have an IDC insert tool (or even better, a Pancon) but can be done manually (and carefully) with a flat blade screwdriver. Doing it this way means you aren't soldering to any place nor using alligator clips.

Another quick question. When my machine does a ball search or loses track of ball numbers, the plunger fires multiple times and continuesly until it finds a ball. Is this a code glitch or my machine.

Evening all,

i'm getting a check switch 61 globe position 1 error, am i right this is one of the opto switches within the globe mechanism? what exactly does this control? the error has come out of the blue.

Can anyone also tell me which switch is for the scoop? I don't think mines registering (can't claim jackpot)

Thanks

If you don’t have a manual, you can download the pdf of it for reference.

Just picked up my Dredd Saturday. Can’t wait to start modding the heck out of it!!
Already added the mirrored backglass...
[quoted image][quoted image]

Where did you find a mirrored JD backglass? CPR? Please point to me to it.
How do the backbox flashers show up with the new backglass? Color coded like the original?
Curious to see how this new backglass compares to the original translite. Thanks!
Could you post a video of it in action?
Nice to see JD getting the love that it deserves. Years ago many parts were unobtainium for JD.

#4463 1 year ago

Cheers, but was more trying to figure out what that switch does? why does the world have 2 switches? does it relate to the globes position? ect

I bought the back glass from Marco but it’s sold out at the moment. I put 1SMD LED’s in the back box (no colors) to make the glass really stand out. Installed LED flashers too so it pops!!

HAUNTED JUDGE DROPS UPDATE #57892

I think I figured it out! The previous owner had done a bunch of after market modifications, so I went through and disconnected various items one by one and narrowed it down to the audio modification.

Here’s a picture of the pieces in question:
27FC2E56-0D90-4D05-8693-CB95E8815C58 (resized).jpeg27FC2E56-0D90-4D05-8693-CB95E8815C58 (resized).jpegA811521B-EA2A-4EFD-A225-AE8CE34D131D (resized).jpegA811521B-EA2A-4EFD-A225-AE8CE34D131D (resized).jpegB15F2819-B15E-4B52-9E10-168359E75672 (resized).jpegB15F2819-B15E-4B52-9E10-168359E75672 (resized).jpeg

So, is it possible that this audio mod was overwhelming the power and causing the drops to freak out? The power for the speaker was being tapped into the A-14689 board next to the tilt bob. The reason I suspected the audio was that the drops seemed more susceptible to shotgunning when the audio was louder.

Now my question is this. What’s a good audio upgrade solution for Dredd?

I would have to see the switches in person to answer that one. With it spinning in two separate directions, it could have something to do with position?

The motor of the underworld doesn't work, i think is because of one of the cogs, i saw that there is new motor selling in the USA, but i can't find any in europe and the shipping price from USA + Vat would be a bit expensive.
there is someone making it or selling it on Europe, or making just the cogs? or the cogs of other motors can work , like the motor for world cup 94?
Thank you for your help

Is the motor itself works? Any damage on motor gear?

it's the motor gears, the motor turns but one of the gear doest turn because of wear off with time/use i imagine.
But if needed i buy a new motor, wanted to see if i could repair first.

The planet assembly contains a lot of parts. Motor is just one item, it's listed as #1 on assembly drawing.
Do you mean the motor is OK, but something in the gearbox is wrong? (The gearbox is not listed in the manual.)
Remove the motor, and check the gears.
If the motor is OK, the gearbox has an issue.
You have 2 options:
1. Rebuild the assy in the USA
2. Buy a new gearbox

yes, it's one of those "wheels /cogs " near the numer 6 and 20.
hooo we can buy just the gear box? would be nice there is a name or a reference for it? it's the same as for world cup 94?

This gearbox is unique, it's designed for Judge Dredd.

Here you go...

Personally, I have no issues with the mirrored backglass, I think it looks great. There are some comments a bunch of posts back (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/dredd-owners-thread-members-only/page/89#post-7091911) and everyone has their own opinion.

Yes, it's definitely darker than the translite. Not sure what everyone keeps going on about with the mirroring. Does it look like the one in my bathroom? No. Does it look like a mirror? Yes. The problem with just about any backglass is that it's really hard to get good pictures or videos of it. They always seem to look washed out.

Not sure if that helps you or not.

My Judge Dredd is a re-import that has been sitting for a long time. Been gathering up all the missing pieces and would like to try and power it up soon. In order to do that I need to ensure that it is wired for US power. Attached is a picture of how my game is wired but I think it is still set to 220V.

Does anyone happen to have some pictures of the standard US wiring I can use as a reference?

Thanks!

That power conversion was an easy fix. Just had to move one end of the orange jumper and add a new jumper across a couple pins.

My left flipper starts strong when booting the machine but becomes too weak to make the right ramp within the first two games. I know the coil is the correct number because I replaced it. Is your left flipper strong enough? Is the recommended coil different than what the manual says?

Hi, am thinking to buy a pinsound for my Judge Dredd, i have one in my STNG and INDY and there is amazing sound setups that the community made.
Am creating one sound setup for the TOTAN since there is no one avaliable, and i wanted to know what people aready done for the Judge Dredd, some people could give me a link of a gameplay video on youtube? ( i only found 2 from 7 years ago )
thanks

I'm looking to buy one of these but it's 4 hours away. Is the head removable for transport? I'd prefer to use my SUV as opposed to renting something to save some cash

Head folds down

Legs come off with 8 bolts

Bring moving blankets, stretch wrap, 1” wide ratchet strap.

Let me see if I can find you a pb tear down video

Maybe above.

once you verify you are moving machine:

A- open coin door, use lever at right to remove lockdown bar..

B-remove glass- stand on edge against wall on a piece of wood or soft surface NOT ON CONCRETE!!!

C-remove balls (6) in judge dredd. Remove any loose crap in cabinet

D- reinstall glass and lock down bar

E- open back box and remove translite, remove bolts holding back box to cabinet. Don’t let head fall! Reinstall translite, fold head down onto cabinet with moving blanket in between cab and head.

F- use small ratchet strap to strap head to cab..

G lift rear of game and remove rear legs. Will require second person or some apparatus to hold up game while removing legs. Set rear of game on ground..

H tilt game up onto rear panel of cabinet (opposite coin door)

I remove front legs

J use hand truck at rear of game to move game to back of suv

K lift game into suv. Coin door end in first

F deal isn’t done till sellers house disappears in rear view mirror

Now you are addicted…

Thank you very much. Any idea what the dimensions are when the head is folded? The largest machine I've fit into my SUV is a Fireball Classic. I own a cyclone as well but I don't think that would fit in my SUV. Not sure where Dread falls

Hello! Rule fixes???

Pray tell what issues are fixed?

Does it include the anti-ghosting fix for LEDs?

I searched, and found eproms with this version for sale, but no documentation.

I acquired a very nice Judge Dredd a few months ago. Love the game, the humor and the dead world mod, but the bugs in the pre-release code drive me nuts. My "favorite" is you must empty the trough every few games or it will think there is a broken switch in the trough, which in turn messes with the dead world operation. This forces me to play a super game every few games, for the easy six ball multi-ball (which empties the trough).

I'm currently running L1-AT with the LED fix.

Thank you for any info you can provide!

Is this why sometimes during multiball I lock 3 balls in dead world and it shoots one ball out into the shooter lane for the proper 4 ball multiball but after awhile it goes to shooting an extra ball after (not two at once) for a 5 ball. It usually stays like this for awhile and then (I thought) randomly goes back to being regular 4 ball. I’ll have to play tomorrow and see how many balls I’m getting for multiball then play a super game and then back to a regular game and see if it changes.

I don't know if false bad trough switch bug is also causing the issue you describe.

I played tonight and no luck. First game multiball was 5 balls. Played super game and it started me with 3. Got the 6 ball each of the super games then went back to the regular game and multiball was still a 5 ball.
Trough switches all work in the switch test.
I have the plastic insert from pinball life in the trough, when I first got the game I would occasionally get two balls served in the shooter lane and it would do that all game unless I turned it off and back on, it would also occasionally loose track of the number of balls and end a multiball early haven’t had either problem since I put in the insert, but the 1 extra ball during multiballs problem hasn’t changed. I would say 80% of the time my regular multiball is 5 ball and super game starts out with 3 and then the other 20% it’s 4 and 2.
