Yep, after Jedi's (and others) comment...I'm rather certain it's Drock. Good call.

Took the glass off when it acted up after first turning on. Tried to manually get it to go away...which I did, but not certain when. Not the drop targets, not the "?" target, not any obvious roll-over switches or the captive balls...seemed to be around the back somewhere. But not sure due to the likeliness of going thru multi optos or switches. Will try again Monday.

MT45 - thank you for the link - I'll check that out. I'm rather interested figuring out the history of Dredd.

Thanks to all that chimed in, much appreciated!

Go into diags / switch test. Slam your palm / fist on the playfield (to give it a wack). Note which switch activated. None should.

#2703 5 years ago

If you’re hearing “drock” randomly it might be one of the rollover switches for the captive balls is stuck or flaky.

Will do guys (or gals).

Will see if I have time Mon. eve to sort it out. Will dig into diagnostics and see what is going on. But I think the best test is to start a game and try to note when the problem stops, or at least to narrow it down some.

I originally thought it might be related to the drop targets since I replaced a damaged target recently - doesn't appear to be an area of concern tho.

Thanks for all your inputs!

Just received a shopped out JD. Its been sitting on my pin dolly since I got it last week because I cant seem to get any of my flippers to function at all.

All fuses seem to be good, although I havent really checked them with a meter. All connections seem to be seated well. I swapped out the fliptronics board with a new one, along with new right flipper opto board, still waiting on the left to come in.

Any ideas other than a broken connection someplace? The flippers flip on the switch test and they register when manually triggered by hand. Kind of at a loss here and I will especially be if this new left opto board doesnt do the trick when it arrives.

Any help or ideas are much appreciated. Thanks!

You mean if you go into the diagnostics and do the flipper coil test?

Quoted from WolfManCat:

and they register when manually triggered by hand.

What exactly registers?

You mean that if you use your fingers to push the flipper all the way up, the EOS triggers in the switch diagnostics?

In switch test, does anything register when you press the flipper buttons?

#2707 5 years ago

Got a DVM or a scope to start chasing down voltages (or lack of)?

Yes, flippers trigger on coil test and on the switch test they register when manually flipped physically by hand. I do not get any response from the flipper buttons when pushed on switch test.

Yeah, where should I start?

See if you have +12VDC on pins 6/7 on the flipper board. Connect DMM to pin 6/7 (either) and 3/4 (either).

Also make sure J116 on the driver board looks good.

#2710 5 years ago

altan likely knows more about JD than I, but I'll try to chime in and help.

Take a look at pages 3-20 to 3-22 of the manual, that shows the flipper circuitry. Try to note some of the voltages that power the flippers and the boards associated with the flippers - and check those. As altan sort of indirectly eluded to, J116, pin 2 supplies +12V to the boards. I think the +12V is supplied by either fuse F116 or maybe F115 (have to look that up). Check that fuse for certain.

How well can you follow a schematic?

Also, is the coin door shut when you try the flippers?

Thanks guys for the help.

I can follow a wiring diagram fairly well and luckily the machine came with the operators manual. Yes, door is shut, I even bent the clip that strikes the inner door switch to make better contact, but no go.

I will test all these with a meter and get back to you. Thanks again.

#2712 5 years ago

Fuck yeah, you guys rock.

So I went back to the garage to check out J116 and I found the problem. The guys at the shop, when they installed the color dmd, they never plugged J116 back into the color dmds power splitter.

Flippers all now functional, I am ready to become the law!

Thanks again guys!

#2713 5 years ago

Considering +50V powers the flippers that would be a good place to check too.

Good deal, wolfman. JD is a great game, really enjoy it. I have a ColorDMD too, makes all the difference!

Thanks, I will be sure to post up a few high scores for you all to laugh at.

After reading a few post on how JD was one of the best pins for color dmd I requested the shop to install one before it shipped. Looks amazing.

After installing color dmd on TWD though, I wish I had just done it myself. Would have saved me a week long headache.

EDIT: No high scores yet.. but thought I would show off the machine for helping me out. Lil pinball porn never hurt. Fyi those white leds under the sling inserts arent so bright when hovering over the machine playing. Overall I think Great American Pinball did a very tasteful job with the LEDs, leaving many incandecents. Supposedly a prototype JD.

Does anybody have or know where to get a crane motor?

#2718 5 years ago

The ColorDMD really makes a significant diff, doesn't it? I think the monochromatic (aka single color) display makes it really hard to see what is going on and is hard on the eyes. The color display really is a game changer, IMHO - and they did a great job w/the software. Install it yourself next time. It's like a 10 min install. TOTAN to the left of it?

#2719 5 years ago

Thank you MT45. I don't now how i missed it when I looked twice. Thank you so much.

Yes, it indeed is TOTAN. Funny you mention that in your post. I just installed color DMD on it yesterday and wow! Same effect with JD, a real game changer. Also installed the treasure chest and genie eyes while I was at it.

And speaking of mods, I installed the 3D printed sniper tower mod on JD and love it. Has hand painted blood on the railing below, looks just like the tower shown in the sniper dmd animation.

I bet you hooked up the connector that went to J116!

The sniper tower...nice, I've seen that before. I'd like to print one myself, but obviously the individual wouldn't want to release the file.

Who is the individual that makes it then? I don't mind paying and have someone else make it

I appreciate the interest. I developed and make the Sniper Tower mod. Several imteractive window insert colors to choose from. Hand painted, wired, etc. (comes with paper instructions--takes just minutes to install) : https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1104-medisinyl-mods/01354-interactive-judge-dredd-sniper-tower-mod-led

I recently acquired a Judge Dredd and haven't really started shopping it or updating the LEDs, but I am curious about the planet assembly. Is there preventative maintenance that needs to be done on it? It currently works fine but I want to be sure that I don't have an issue later as a result of failure to clean or lubricate some part or parts.

It's not an insignificant project, but I always remove the two gearboxes, clean out all of the old grease and apply Super Lube Grease (won't attract dirt or gum up over time). 15 year-old grease is probably the main reason that gearboxes fail.

#2731 5 years ago

Hey guys quick question, does Dredd have a knocker in the head? I always thought mine was just missing and today I pulled one from a different parts cab and put it into the Dredd head but there is no where to plug it into.

Thanks guys figured it out, someone at some point tried to connect the knocker wire to a counter by the coin box but it only had one wire left connected so that didn't work either. Disconnected that plug and plugged in the knocker and it works fine. Thanx again

Hey everyone! I am seeking a complete Crane Assembly for a JD, Working or Not.

Let me know what you have via PM

Thanks!

Thanks. The Super Lube is on order. I have a Demo Man that had a sticky elevator mechanism. Disassembly, cleaning and some light oil made it work like new. I'd rather do some work up front instead of looking for hard-to-find or expensive parts after they fail.

This game is a ton of fun and never gets old, in my opinion. You have a great collection, and I think this is an awesome addition. Not only is it fun to play and looks great too, but you get some great rocking sounds and music that will keep you pumped up! I love the JD sounds and music!
