I’m pretty new to working on pinball machines. Today I replaced the drop targets my gottlieb tag team. Everything went in no problem. A half hour into playing the solenoid in the drain that kicks the balls into the trough stuck on and obviously is getting very hot. I checked the switch to make sure nothing was stuck closed and it doesn’t appear to be. Don’t see any lose wires. If I run the self test it will fire the solenoid but then goes right back to being stuck on. Bad solenoid or something else?

Check your driver board - a transistor likely went bad and is keeping the solenoid energized.

Gotcha. I’ll take a look. Are they generally visibly able to tell which is bad or do I need a multi meter

You will need a meter and schematic - compare the transistor that drives that solenoid to other transistors on the board. If its bad, the readings will be very different from the working ones. Let us know.

The readings are taken with the machine off. There's lots of threads and videos showing how to use a meter in case you're not sure.

Thanks I’ve got the schematics that came with the machine. I’ll take a look at it and see what’s what.

Of course the copy of the manual doesn’t have the electrical diagrams in it. Ughhh.
