Have you ever dreamed about a pinball without electronic issue ? How to do ? Remove all. and put it in a box
Have you ever connected your old gottlieb System1 to a PC ?

Did you like jigwsaw when you were children ?

So what to do : replace connectors or not ?
Change all wires or not?

Waiting about your opinion and experience !

One thing is sure : at this moment : it doesn't work !

I'm not afraid - I do like challenges

Best of luck lb45. I'm sure you will get it put together and working. Those edge connectors looks pretty worn. Maybe wire brush them and flow on some silver solder.

Dear BD,
I agree about the quality of connector , but in case of trouble. What to do ? You can't replace easily the boards . This is a unique model , and you can't install a Janin card or similar.
That's no professionnal for the next owner.

I think i will try to replace and reinstall with initial models , and at least , replace all the wires with a new one found on another machine.

It could be the better way to solve definitely issues.

Just looked the CPU - The battery is starting to leak...ARGH.

I have more connectors than i need , but i would have better to purchase new parts with good contacts

What a job !

You know if you look at this hobby through the eyes of a fan of star wars,

The 'new force' as everything made post 1978 SS. and the 'old force' EMs pre 78 all the way back to the pre flipper days you may find a dilemma starting to build from inside....
The Rage, hate, disgust of dead displays-old crappy CAPs ICs and board work blues
let it flow and embrace it turn your back on those modern day money pits
and join our side - the old force!
walk away from the Dragon wagon for a month and turn to that awesome Canada Dry pin
and see what happens?.....

Canada dry is waiting some parts..(fuse, coils) to be started again .
Hope It will start perhaps next week-end.
EM is stronger than SS - For sure.

Do you think that color on connectors are always the same on System1.

In this case , i could copy my Totem connectors (color by pin-number) to install new connectors from wires coming from the playfield for example?

#7 13 years ago

Hmmm yes I like a puzzle too but only small ones, looks like you got 5000 piece jigsaw of the sea. Good luck dude.

If someone has the schematics of Dragon , i need it urgently , particularly colors on connectors...on A1 - J7 J6 ( CPU to playfiled) and A3 (driver !)

Thanks.

I can tell you for sure that the wire colors are not the same on every System 1 game.
Also I think but not sure, that I had two Countdowns that had different wire colors in the Harnesses.

But if you compare the Dragon's colors to your Totem and they are the same then there's a good chance that you could copy the wiring and be A-OK.

If you replaced the DB 25 connector with an original Molex connector then you could use the NiWumph or Pascal replacement CPUs.
Both are tremendous improvements over the original but Pascal's is so very good.
His CPU pcb and his all in one replacements are just what the System 1 games needed

Thanks Padman ,
i asked worldwide this question about colors , and i'm sure to win

I will reinstall a normal connector .

I will do :

Playfield --->DB25(exist)> >DB25------->Normal Molex and not wires directly soldered to boards or Direct without DB . It depends if i have colors or not.

FYI :

-->Connectors DB25 removed.
-->New wires soldered

Waiting the special tool purchased at Ma....ies (shipped 06/14>>>>> not arrived in France).. to remove old contacts and use old connectors found

If i lived by you , it would be easier !

That's a great condition backglass and playfield, and the SS version looks so much nicer than the EM in this case. I can't wait to see it up and running
