It’s not illegal to build a one off or even a 100 of them or even take them to shows but the second you receive any profit from the product / selling them commercially or even just selling photos or streams it would be illegal as your making profit off someone else’s IP

Find a way to get the IP or just enjoy your one off build (just don’t make any profit off it)

    Quoted from adol75:

That's not true. Homebrew are somewhat tolerated because the IP owner doesn't know or doesn't care. But any use of an IP without rights wether for profit or not is not allowed.
So showing off a homebrew in public would fall into that category. The problem is that with all the noise with non kickstarter made, that guy and his game or in the sight of the IP owner and they look very serious about enforcing their rights.

If this true almost all home brews taken to shows would be illegal ie sonic, matrix and countless others. No one cares as long as your not making money off the IP which a home brew does not. The second you try and sell them the IP holder will get upset.
