WOW! Never saw this before. A Dragon's Lair pinball. Looks to be homebrew.
Would love to have a game like this. Would have to have a killer video mode where you used the flipper buttons to move right or left and lockdown bar button to swing sword.

Looks pretty good. I'd put some coin in it to try out.

It looks virtual to me, like in development software, not a real pin but a cool design with some neat shots. Interested to hear more about it.

ahh checked it out. they have a video of the prototype they are working on.

    #4 4 years ago

I hear this guy named Kevin Kulek is making it !

    #5 4 years ago

Has any pin ever been made in virtual then made into a physical pin?

Don't think it's virtual. Just a homebrew. Look at this picture you can see floor and wall in the background.

This would be one of the coolest uses of the LCD screen. I don't buy new games, but this would be a must-buy for me. There are many levels of the game were only have left/right and sword could be completed.

Same here. And this one looks really good. I know a lot of competition players wouldn't want long video modes that slows down the game. So would need to be selectable in setting. As for home play. This would truly link the world of pinball and video game play that games like Caveman and baby pack man tried.

Lol, the floor in the background is what made me realize it was virtual. Look at the inserts and targets, they're just a 3D render. Looks like the physical prototype is still in the works but looking sweet. Hopefully the builder can make the real thing as impressive as the virtual.

    Had me fooled. LOL

I think the most interesting feature in this concept is the snake which in Pic #5 in the first post above seems to be an upside-down ramp where the ball is traveling on the snake's underbelly via magnet. Then I go to Pic #8 and wonder WTF that upper flipper is doing.

    #18 4 years ago

This would be a dream theme for me. This prototype looks excellent although definitely needs way more Princess Daphne.

    #19 4 years ago

Interesting. The shooter lane isn't on top of the playfield. It's underneath to give availability of the playfield.
    I like the idea.

    #20 4 years ago

    Interesting.
Dragon's Lair was originally going to be produced by Gottlieb after Black Hole, and an early whitewood prototype was built by the BH designers. However, the idea ended up being scrapped and they built Haunted House instead.

Cool that the theme is finally getting developed!

At Pinburgh this year I had a discussion with Keith Elwin about the plunger. I’m left handed and I can’t stand that every game has the plunger on the right side. Disregard the handful of games that have a secondary plunger on the left. Anyways he said it was a very interesting point and one that he never thought much about. He did mention that moving the plunger to the left side would then open up new geometries for shots on the play field.

this looks so good, and the animations are already done (and I'm assuming easily rippable). This game doesn't necessarily go in order, which makes it great for a pinball crossover. I really hope these guys finish this.

    #25 4 years ago

This would be a must have for me. Crossing my fingers.

    #26 4 years ago

I really like how they did the snake with the 3D modeling into a 2D head drawn on the plastic. Nicely done.

    #27 4 years ago

    Awesome, following.

It looks like there is some kind of pop up feature on the play field like the trolls on medieval madness or the orks on hobbit.

I was hoping they were pop up scoops that would then eject the ball from random areas across the playfield. Kinda like Dirk falling into the pit.

My all time favorite video game.
    Looks great in the computer.
The printed version looks a little bit plane.
    Cant wait to see more.

It makes sense as a pinball game. I mean the worst part of Dragon's Lair is the gameplay (I have one in my arcade).

The modes are defined by the video game. Each scene of the game could be a separate mode that you have to progress through.

One thing about Dragon's Lair... when my daughter's friends come over to play in the arcade they all LOVE watching the game but HATE playing it. The timing aspect is just too wonky so they give up after a game or two.

I wonder how much $$ George Bluth and his team would charge for the license?

    #31 4 years ago

I never could get very far in the arcade game so I wound up watching a Youtube walk through of the game. I was disappointed in how many scenes/levels were repeats of previous levels just with a reversed image. Still, Dragon's Lair and Space Ace hold a place in my heart from the 80's arcade scene and the cool factor of them when they were released.

    #32 4 years ago

Don Bluth and Gary Goldman have been trying for years to make a feature film of Dragons Lair as a continuation to the story. Many of his other movies are highlighted in this kickstarter. So much great animation.

    https://www.polygon.com/2015/10/26/9617632/dragons-lair-movie-kickstarter-don-bluth

The game content is just 23 minutes of video but I thought it took much longer to beat it in the arcades. You needed pockets full of quarters to do it.
I love the idea but doubt this will go further than a one off. Following for sure.

It would be cool to see dragons lair remade in 3D on the quake engine. Then you could wander around the world a bit

They did something like that for the original XBox, got meh reviews but might be worth a look:

hello to everyone.. i found now that there is a forum here that talk about my homebrew.

it s not a virtual pinball but could be' in the future. why not.

it s an homebrew. of a real pinball. on my facebook page there is step by step th e making of.

the rendering images re too let all understand my goal.

at today i have a white playfield half working. because program rules and software and hardware takes too long.

but for 2020 october next expo chicago it will be' ready to play the final version.

if you want to follow the making of you could see step by step the birth of this whiteplayfield.

i can give you now some info about game.

it takes all the arcade dragon s lair animations into a pinball.

you can play like a pinball of course not like the arcade. only few sections of video mode could be' player like original. the Horse and the rapids.

    there re some new things.
first no shooter lane. is on the right but is inside the lower part of playfield.

the snake ramp is a magnetic inverter ramp like magic pinball of capcom. but this feature have permanent magnet.

the four target inside playfield re similar to medieval madness or cactus canyon but they have inside 4 Lcd... so it s like a new feature. not standard targets.

the game like the original arcade must be' complete visiting the Rooms. to reach the dragon s lair.

playfield artwork and cab re done. i m only making rules on my new hardware.

oh yes.. this is something that i m working on. head would not have cables between body of cabinet.

i want to make something new with new tecnologie. we re in 2019!

thanks for looking at it. i ll came back!

I remember when Dragon's Lair was a showcase game in our local arcade. They had it on a stand up a carpeted step or two. I was too busy playing Black Knight to get enthused on it though.
