Probably one of the worst arcade games ever made, in terms of gameplay. So a pinball game would be a million times better. Still prefer Space Ace, which has more character and the wonderful 'Infanto Ray' gun. Imagine that as an Action button feature on a pinball game.

Hope this works out and is the start of the amazing Don Bluth trilogy.

For those who have a bit of nostalgia for old 3D anaglyph films and have a pair of green / red lenses ... I leave you a glimpse of the white playfield from life ... which I had used to define various trajectories and improvements.

Do you have footage of the magnetic rail in action?

Capcom Magic used a pair of flipper coils to temporarily magnetize the rod to hold and drop the ball. Does your design use actual magnets that are not powered or controlled? Very impressive. I suppose random airballs might catch it and ride the way back to the inlane?

When do the pre order starts ?

very random balls can catch the ramp.
i tried a lot of time and a few times as you say... the ball go down along the ramp to the inlane.
the magnets re not enough to catch random balls. but they re enough for the correct ball from the main ramp.
    i used permanent magnets.
    no wires. no power.
    only gravity!!!

there s a video on Facebook.
you have to go to the straitght custom pinballs group... and you ll find one!

The project is copyright protected. Under digital leisure NDA.
every copy of all or parts of this project will be punished with laws measures.

    So that's a "no" then?

Do you have the rights for the Dragon's Lair IP?

    #217 1 year ago

Is there any gameplay for the game? Video?
    This has been a while.
    Tks !

I mean you are always allowed to build a copy of anything for your own personal use as I understand it though. I mean if you signed a non disclosure agreement with Digital Leisure that would change things though.

    Quoted from Hammerhead:So that's a "no" then?

From his post on FB I read it as HE is working with Digital Leisure with a NDA and is allowed to show some progress, but one or two other a-holes are trying to sell cabs/games using his prototype art...

"the dragon s lair project is under copyright protection. who unfortunately had bought cabinets with my graphics (a list of people to whom unauthorized copy was sold was requested) or who was about to make his own mind as Mr. dave of retroplay.au will receive a complaint as required by law."

...and here's the SHORT vid of the 'gravity magnet ramp'

    #220 1 year ago

I also read it as he had now entered into an agreement with Digital Leisure for potential manufacture, apologies if I got that wrong

    #221 1 year ago

Congrats and well wishes in working with Digital Leisure. Inspiring.

Years ago, I hosted cheesy art/instructions for a machine's touch-screen interface. The layouts and protected controller reappeared on a Finnish website and currently a machine manufacturer on the East Coast is producing some portion in their product line. I can't imagine the relentless process of checking the 'creative' employees; making sure they actually produce their own work.

Nobody is trying to sell cabs/games with his artwork. Some other guy made a dragons lair Vpin and the OP threw a big temper tantrum about it when that guy listed it for sale. I ask him again, do you have the rights to the Dragon's Lair IP?

Wasn't he all uppity about the guy that built a virtualpin using artwork he didn't have rights to, and talking about how he was in talks with the licensor so he could start producing real games?

    #229 1 year ago

I'm guessing it's due at least in part to these guys' current use of the license and their desire to remain distinct and unique:

I always thought iircade was ripping off the license… something about how it looks like they hacked the artwork together to make it work…

Arcade1up on the other hand has the official license and just released their new arcade machine. 924F54E2-B747-4020-8C44-81411FC491B0 (resized).jpeg924F54E2-B747-4020-8C44-81411FC491B0 (resized).jpeg

i dont get 1up doing dragons lair, that game has very little replay value. even when it was in the arcade you only played it so you could finish watching the animation. if i really wanted to play it i can download it on my phone for $5 (its only 4 directions and an action button). now a pinball could work because you could take that world to create a loosely base of the original story like stern did with jurassic park.

    #232 1 year ago

Within the Arcade1up community the excitement for Dragons lair is really quite large, I would think they are going to make a lot of money just like they recently did when they released Tron.

Arcade 1-up guys sure are a weird bunch

    Quoted from Haymaker:

Yeah that’s pretty accurate statement I would have to agree but personally I think any group can pretty much be categorized as weird lol.

    #235 1 year ago

This would be a cool title for American or Spooky to pickup. Why not work with them and make it real.

    #236 1 year ago
    Quoted from Haymaker:

You do realize a lot of us in the pinball community not only own many Arcade1Up’s but have sold off many original video games to replace them with Arcade1Up’s. More room for pinball! And yes we are all a weird bunch.

Yes and I find that weird. Its OK to be weird. Owning pinball machines is weird too.

Less weird than it was 5 years ago though!

Peoples attitude went from, 'those take up a lot of space' to 'you must be rich, when you getting a new one?'.

Selling original arcades to replace them with these crappy Arcade1up machines is definitely weird. It's like selling a pinball and buying a zizzle instead.

    So true.
I wanted to like the 1Ups, but the controls and cabinets leave much to be desired.

It would be nice to get the page and a half of deleted posts back. Seems really relevant because it was discussion over IP.

Guessing many people are like me and that they fell in love with the art and the inventive (arguably boring and frustrating) gameplay more than the game itself. I bought a 1up because it reminds me of my childhood, is fun to just look at, and the couple times a year I want to play it I can do so on something without having to pull out a magnifying lense. Also like that it’s a fraction of the cost of an original and the smaller profile makes it more manageable in a home already overflowing with too much pinball and arcade crap. For that reason alone I can see a Dragon’s Lair pinball doing solid because there is such a cult following on just the aesthetic and idea of Dragon’s Lair alone.

Plus, I think all of us fan boys are secretly craving some kind of extension of the story or additional development of key characters that could be fun and cool to bring to life in the form of a pinball machine.

Any updates on the technology you plan to use and what that might look like under the hood? You seemed confidence you had an out of the box solution.

Regarding the IP, I can see the possibility of starting a Kickstarter getting shut down if you don't have the IP. However, they can't stop you from making your one off homebrew as long as you aren't planning to profit from it. Hopefully, your five years of work will be worth it for you to have your dream machine. It might even get you in the door at a real pinball company, just not by making a Dragon Lair theme pin.

There never was a kickstarter. He was only taking a poll to see how many people would be interested in doing a kickstarter.

Digital Leisure is not the Dragon's Lair license owner, correct? Why don't you reach out to American Pinball. They may be open to doing this, they've stated they would do homebrew runs in their factory

I guess I would like to know why they decided not to proceed? Was it money or something else? If it's money you need to give them more money.
