I'm having an issue with the secondary opto board on BSD. The emitter for the most beam going across the playfield does not get proper power. The 2 pin connector on the board (J2) shows about 6v-8v without the emitter LED connected, and it shows virtually nothing with it connected. I tested the receiver with a light and its not that. The wires running to other optos in the game show 14v (12v unregulated) without a connection and about 1.3v with the emitter connected. I swapped emitters around and also found that the emitter itself is bad.

The MC1455P1 timing IC in the emitter power supply circuit is suspect, as we replaced the 2 caps on the board and tested various diodes and resistors without solving the problem. The chip is getting 14v on the Vcc supply pin and about 8v on the chip's output leg of that chip (see data sheet). Obviously there is something wrong with the chip? Can someone confirm this?

What other games does this board use? Can someone measure the voltage at J2 with nothing connected?

That is also used in Star Wars Episode one. That is it.

NBAFB, Shadow...
You're charting largely unknown territory my friend. That board is a bit of a booger.

I had the same problem a while ago with a friends Dracula. The mist multiball kept on dropping off halfway along, the only fix was to buy a replacement board from a guy called Homepin in Australia. As soon as we installed this board, problem solved, it has never dropped off since.

As soon as i can get off my fat Ass, looking to buy a homepin board for my BSD, no point pissing around fixing the original one IMO

some info here, if anyone needs it,

I don't buy from HomePin. I did see a replacement board somewhere for ~$50 I think. My main question though was is there any info on these boards but evidently not. Think I'll try shotgunning the drive circuit first. That timing chip may be suspect.

I seem to be having similar problems with my BSD. I have power at emitter and receiver. I can't see anything from the emitter when I try to look at it with a camera. The switch shows open in test and the magnets goes constantly left and right when the game comes on as it seems to be trying to drop the ball one side or the other. Emitter issue? Idiot repairman?
