Hi all, I have an issue with my dr.who. I don't know if It's a issue in opto board or Opto led is really clean. L1 75 is open the others closed. When I do the test on miniplayfield ccw down the l1 is turn on with the opto eject left (at the same time). I Should know how can solve this issue. Should I disassemble the opto bank?Or not? Thanks in advance.

On Bally/Williams games, opto's show closed when they are not active. You have a opto problem. probably a bad transmitter?

    #3 3 months ago

probably...but if is transmitter i should disassemble the opto bank?

Disassemble it and use a cell phone to check the transmitters. They will show up in a cell phone. If the phone shows it glowing then you have a receiver problem. I found in my Dr. Who that after replacing a bad one, another one went out shortly after that and then another after that and so on and so on. I finally replaced the whole transmitter and receiver board. They aren't that expensive and it's worth not having to continually take it apart to keep replacing individual LEDs.

Reflowing the solder spots might help as well

Is this the opto boards in question?

I've dr who since 4 months so this is my first issue. I Haven't disassemble anything yet to repair. So i would like to know if I'll repair it the firs thing It's disassemble MPF and then open the Opto Boards... Have someone had my same issue?

    Yes they are the boards.

I had an issue on mine and tried to change the defective transmitter/receiver, but found out the originals are shorter in length. The new longer ones then fouled on the mushroom button stalks - this is compounded if your black plastic 'board holder' bracket is warped. Ended up just ordering these:

Cant remeber, but I think the plastic subway on the bottom of the playfiled has to come off to access the opto boards. I dont think the mini playfiled needs to come out? but I just replaced the opto's themselves, Less than than $1 apiece & its usually just the transmitters that go bad. I think the game I was working on had three out. Of course I did the work with the playfield out of the game, Made it alot easier.

Now I'm Thinking to remove MPF e use a Air Spray to clean the transimetter/receiver maybe It's a bad contat?!

You can't see the light from the transmitter with the naked eye but the camera on a cell phone will show them lit up if they are working. Just point the camera at them and see if they are lit on the screen. If they are lit then it is the receiver that is the issue.

Ok wonderfull! During this day I'll work hard to try solve the issue. Then I'll brief you. Thanks
