Hello everyone. Newbie question, I have a Dr Dude and the “gift of gab” shot isn’t working. It appears the device in there that catches and then pops the ball back out has popped up and won’t go back down. Thus , the ball won’t stay in there it just bounces out.
1) what would this device be called?
2) does it just need to be cleaned?
3) should I just replace it? How difficult is it?
Thanks in advance for any input. I am pretty handy but new to pinball repairs. I have acquired several machines and am realizing can’t afford to call my tech every time I hit a snag….have a great day!

Its a vuk. Vertical upkicker. If the plastic ball nest part brole off, itll need rebuilt. Youll need to look under the playfield to see whats going on. Currently have this on my list to do on my game. 17 dollar part

Take some pics so we can see the issue.

Sounds relatively simple to fix. As amkoepfer said, it could just be the red plastic cup the ball sits in. The get brittle and crack over time.

Any idea of the coil that activates the mech to kick the ball out is working? But into coil test to see if the coil functions

Thanks that’s great info! Ironically it started working again. Not sure what to make of that? Any thoughts. I really appreciate it.

My thought is your issue is the switch associated w this outhole.

When the ball lands in the hole, it presses down on a little metal switch arm. This then tell cpu to activate the coil to kick the ball out. If it’s intermittent, like you’re saying, it’s probably just needing to be adjusted up a bit.

If you have to rebuild the vuk, i say set the game on fire. Ive been workin all day on 1, and it is a pain in the ass! Doesnt help that the pbl rebuild kit has the hole too small for the metal dowel
