1) If DP trekked over to NYC for a event, why didn't they take advantage and also promote BoP 2.0? I understand it's a kit, but they wasted a good opportunity.

2) I'd love to know how many TBL pins were pre-ordered/sold just from this weekend's Modern Pinball event. I get that they need to raise funds, but it seemed like a waste of time and money, especially with these issues brewing in the background.

Stop with the events and expos until you clear this mess and start communicating with your backers.

This is why I always question the point when people say "I'll just challenge the payment and done, risk free". There is always risk even with paypal or American Express.

I love this post. Wish I could give you more than one thumbs up.

I'm going to take the next couple hours to sniff out the duplicate accounts...clearly a couple have popped up in this thread...

As a mod on another forum this shouldn't be too hard just check ips location. If your referring to me send me a pm or Google me...

Next pinball startup company?
Pinside Inc.
We can run it like a cooperative.
But seriously for those who do not know it takes about 15 minutes to setup a TIN. Not sure if that's been mentioned.

kick starter here we come come. I am in.
fund the upstarts and let Stern / JJP build them.

#804 5 years ago

I'll never trust a pinball company that's below sea level again.

I cant read 17 pages of this..... did DP come up with a response to this at all? thanks

I am still taking preorders on my Ghostbusters pin. I have had none yet and announced it multiple times for $8500 up front. I have a heart next to my name.

Some small information that may help. Regarding the licensing, overstepping, securing, displaying public property, etc.
I had a nice family dinner and a short conversion with my brother, and his answer was it really was all about relationships. Even if all the "wrong" being listed is true, if the relationship is in order, most licensing issues like this can be resolved. My discussion of this situation, was reflected from his position as optimistic, as long as no bridges have been burned.
Does this mean anything? Its up to you, but he was employed for several years as both a Universal attorney, and still does licensing deals, in an assortment of areas as an entertainment attorney.
Hes been there many times.
As some small consolation, It may still mean a game being built, and to wait on the license issue.

We hope

I only accept cash mailed to the Ivory Coast. Don't worry, I will send you all of your money back AND a free pinball machine eventually.

Quoted from ShootForSlrValue:

With all due respect, this issue is far from murder, child molestation, and the issues in Ferguson.

You are right this is not near the same level as the others. All bombshells out of the blue though.

#818 5 years ago

So if all of this information leads to even 100 people canceling that is $450,000 in preorder money gone to fund the project. Potentially up to almost $900,000 in lost revenue. If that happens can DP survive to make the game? I am still in, but NEED to hear from DP withing the next 48 hours or I may have to run away.

Quoted from Rensh:

I thought this was the dream theme for you Americans, apparently a dream is not worth fighting for in the US

First off, this quote is just flat out disgusting....Attitudes like this do nothing for international relations.
This is about nothing more than good people that put real money into an apparent house of cards that has literally just imploded before our eyes.

DP might be done folks! How do you recover from this? What could they possibly say?
Phil has provided far too much actual proof of more red flags than red cross, ie; Bride money gone, TBL money going to bride, lies, theft, stalling phil for assuming liability for DP USA and leaving him with a big pile of cash like some scapegoat...No wonder he hit the panic refund button.

This isnt like the Hobbit smaug drama at expo when there was mild panic and talk of a run on the bank at JJP....This is an actual run on the bank at DP happening as I type this which was kicked off by Phil. What is literally every page of this thread littered with? Good people desperately asking Phil how to get their $$$ if they already haven't, or people calling amex, or others emailing DP and calling in first thing monday am for refunds. That is the majority of the sentiment here which equals a RUN ON THE BANK! All the magical thinking in the world isn't going put a shiny nib TBL in your driveway anytime soon...Just simply ask the question? Who is going to fund this thing now? And who in their right mind would pre order DP #2?

#820 5 years ago
Quoted from Kcpinballfan:

That would be a good idea, but go astep further, combine DP with Heighway, Skit-B and any other small pin company and combine resources and make a powerhouse. Sounds awesome but highly unlikely. There is a lot of creative minds in those groups.

But apparently very little experience in how to run a business, manage cash flow, seeing venture capital, or basic customer service skills.

The Company really failed when they used the abbreviation DP. I can't believe there haven't been any DP jokes in this thread yet.

Read the whole thread. It's been mentioned at least 3 times. and I don't think any of the three meant Donkey Punch.

I dunno
If we look at bop 2.0 it is late but it's has full endorsement and licensing rather than a rogue skill release. Seems like they're crossing T and dotting the i's

BoP is still nowhere close to finished according to that other thread though. It's not just late, it looks like it was ignored fully for a good while there

#831 5 years ago
Quoted from badbilly27:

Why wouldn't DP owners immediately sign the ownership transfer papers of DP USA that Phil provided? This HAS to be addressed. Otherwise, it appears that DP does not want liability of the money collected in the USA for preorders but just wants access to the money to pay salary, supplies, and travel expenses. I'm not a lawyer but would be interested in the proper legal perspective on this. It appears like DP was limiting their "liability" and having Phil carry it all. What ramifications if the company had to shut down before production - who was on the hook? DP or DP USA?? If the latter, I get Phil wanting out as he was playing banker carrying all the risk. That would make DP have another meaning - check an adult porn site for what I mean. Caveat - if assumption of liability is accurate.

Here's your DP comment from page 15.

Quoted from Nilroc:

Here is a problem I have with Phil.
At Expo he apparently knew about all these so called problems yet was talking up TBL and lets be honest here, talked an awful lot of people including myself to get in on a preorder and becoming a VIP
member.Remember what you said at Expo. Rug and Chrome if you order by October 19th. Nothing was said at Expo or when Phil left the company. Nothing was said until today not just anyday this was the NYC VIP Launch. Very interesting and selfish in my opinion.
We are not children here we are grown men. You can't tell me this type of thing can"t be discussed and settled upon privately. By Phil putting it all out there may Jeopardize further dealings with Universal to get this licensing thing sorted out (if indeed it is a real problem) Would like to hear Barry and Jaap respond to Phil's accusations.
I will be staying in for now. I have 180 days now that I refreshed Paypal and reinstated my order.
I want to hear both sides of the story before I make a rash decision.

Am I the only one who read the Paypal fine print? Paypal protection does not apply to pre-orders. You all have zero Paypal protection here. You may have some through your credit card.

I'm happy in a way, not for people with thousands of dollars in limbo of course, but rather for the realization that the 'kickstarter' model most often than not results in bad feelings. It's a terrible way to do business and is a reflection of the something for nothing society at large today.

#839 5 years ago
Quoted from jrivelli:

More than fully ignored...as I read the various comments, they hint that the funds are spent and the entire project is an unfunded liability...course nothing is verified and we only have one side of the story out of three.

This whole situation is tragic, but not completely unexpected. Pinball development, manufacturing, and sales is a very challenging business with small margins, an even smaller customer base, and an tncredibly fickle audience. When Stern told Jersey Jack that this was going to be a tough road, he was absolutely spot on. More than one group of intelligent people have failed in this business. My perspective is this: as the owner of pins from 3 different manufactures (soon to be 4 if TH ever arrives), I am honestly grateful people are willing to put their heart and soul into this business. I love the product, even when it breaks down periodically and even if the sound isn't just perfect. For me, the lesson is that the next time JJP misses a dead line or Stern puts out a game that isn't up to everyone's expectations, CHILLAX!!! At least they have been delivering games.

High Five Bro! I feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for everyone involved, I want this title to happen more than anything... But its nice to know that when I get my next game, hopefully Rollergames, I wont be waiting for a code update, they wont be making a premium, and they wont lose the license!

It's really sad seeing a company dispute that should be private aired out like this amongst the public. Even sadder that people's excitement for this pin went from 100 to 30 in a matter of seconds. Boutique pinball needs to be funded by wealthy backers, not pinball collectors with pre-orders. All day, all I could think about was this: how is 10K too much money to secure the Kahlua license? Heck we make $15,000 mood videos for new biz pitches. Nobody wants to feel that the company making their pin is hurting for cash, especially if that said company took their cash. So sad. Hope it all works out. But threads like this are becoming all too common lately.

#845 5 years ago

What?
Did this thread fall out of the top 5 on page 1?
Tragedy.

#846 5 years ago
Quoted from kaneda:

I'm sure everyone is glad they DID NOT spent $10,000 on the Kahlua license.

That would be $10,000 that the **investors** would not be getting refunded.

#847 5 years ago

Who is calling the people who pre ordered **investors**???

Isnt that what they call people who buy swampland in Florida or people who buy timeshares?

Customers. Everyone is a customer....

#848 5 years ago

Creditors actually. You become a customer after product has shipped.

You're acting like DP is already the Bernie Madoff of pinball and now it's a race to get money out before it's too late. I don't think we're there. I would think that anyone starting a pinball company should have at least a good million in cash to ensure the game could be made and made right without having to take customer money. Heck, a million probably is even way too low. You need that to start a dive bar in NYC

Just to refresh some old discussions its common for license break down to be about $25 a game total So $10k just for the kalua would be too much.
