    Great job! Looks fantastic!

'Down with Latex!', be thankful that it was latex, and painted with out any prepping of the original cabinet.

With your hard effort you have drastically improved the games appearance, well done.

Looks pretty damn sharp, nice work art in your home.

I have a machine that looks just like the before pic over here... Would you mind sharing which product you used?

Yes, I think he means... Up with latex paint!!!!!

At least you can get the silly stuff off without very much damage to the original paint.

I used Xylene, a lot of scrubbing with #2 3M scouring pads, scraping and mostly patience.

Its NASTY stuff but it worked on the latex and didn't touch the original artwork. The trick is to be patient in order to let the Xylene work and not scrub too much or too hard in one area for long as the scrubbing pads themselves can wear away the original artwork if not careful.

Great job. I've seen this series of pictures on all the different forums and Facebook groups I feel I own it myself!

You may have taken several months off of your life, but it looks great! Aren't there some more benign products out there for stripping latex paint? I used "Goof Off" once (the old formula), and of course did it outdoors, but even so, the fumes were overpowering. I don't think I'd do it again.

    #12 6 years ago

Goof Off is xylene based. Wear an organic vapour mask?

    #13 6 years ago

Yeah you were using Xylene and just didn't know it. The new formula has Acetone added to it.

Why the hell would someone paint over original art that looked that good? Idiots.

This is what I was wondering? Who decided "This is some great art here, let me destroy it!"

Dialing the WABAC machine to circa 1978.....
Husband: "Hon, you'll never guess what I just got for our basement bar...
    a REAL pinball machine!"
Wife: "A what? Don't you DARE bring that thing into our newly paneled basement rec room. It'll clash with the decor!"
Husband: "Well, I have an idea then that will make us both happy..."

    You can guess the rest.

    LOL

It was actually the previous owners elderly mother that painted the cab. From what I gather it was his fathers and his mother painted it before he picked it up thinking she was doing something nice for him. He didn't agree!

Fantastic job! Would never have thought it was possible to salvage the original paint. Well done...

I stripped blue latex off of a 1950 Spot Bowler wood rail. Used denatured alcohol from Ace Hardware a PLASTIC putty knife and one of those soft plastic kitchen scrub pads that look like brightly colored poodle fur. Worked really well but slowly, and fumes (in a garage w fan and open door) weren't too bad.

Poor North Star... painted white, then painted black

I don't think this one can be brought back with the Xylene... luckily the art is just straight lines so I'll uncover just enough to make my own stencils and I'll have to do a full repaint.

What makes it extra hard is the white on white paint job - it's hard to tell whether the white you're seeing on the blue or red is on top of it and needs to be removed or if you just removed too much and you're down to the original white layer.

The same people putting "2.0" decals on BoP, and pinstadium, and color-bombed playfields. They "know art" better than the designers did.

    Is that the "BJ" NS?

    What's that?

If you have to ask, it isn't.
