Quoted from woz:Where can you find a "modern kid-focused arcade" these days?
Playdium, Ciniplex. Most of the large multiplex theatres have an arcade. 1 pin maybe, sometimes 2 pins in each arcade.

Wonder if there will be a sub 7k regular edition? Or if it will just be a LE and collectors edition copying stern.
Quoted from trunchbull:The three games he did after TZ at B/W are really good, and I don't think he was picking his own themes at Stern, was he? Monopoly is fun, though. I wish RCT had had a better understanding of why people PLAY the video game, and had incorporated more of the silliness that makes it fun. Instead, it was just a weird, ugly hodgepodge code with a nifty layout and a generic amusement park theme.
I think Pat had a great run with Earthshaker, Whirlwind, Funhouse, TAF and TZ but after that I think it went down hill. NGG (Caddyshack) was good but Roadshow was pretty poor. I like Safecracker a lot but I don't think that's a theme people feel too passionate about. I guess I just expected better since it's been nearly 20 years since he's gotten the chance to do an original theme without a shoestring budget. It just seems surprising that "Magical cellphone in a Futuristic City" is the theme he's been dying to make all these years'...
I'm glad the Wizard Blocks inserts got to live again. Those are super cool.
And the cabinet changes and system updates are excellent.

RS, sir, is [email protected]&king awesome.
Quoted from libtech:Wonder if there will be a sub 7k regular edition? Or if it will just be a LE and collectors edition copying stern.
The "LE" is the regular edition. 6999 units isn't an LE. 6999 units would be an extremely high selling regular run for any modern pinball company.
Quoted from hardware:The pin is really called Dialed In.
yeah, 2 years and they couldn't come up with a better name.
pinsiders in one day came up with Quantum City and it sounds 100x better.
12.5k is insane, 6999 units being an LE is insane. 9k for a "LE" which is just a standard edition is insane. This whole thing is insanity, I am out.
Quoted from Rarehero:The "LE" is the regular edition. 6999 units isn't an LE. 6999 units would be an extremely high selling regular run for any modern pinball company.
Right...and why they decided to call this an LE is stupid. Just call it the standard and be done with it.
Quoted from Pimp77:I figured I'd sleep on the reveal and give it a bit to settle in before saying anything. Well, I love WOZ and TH but this is a pretty big fail for JJP in many ways. That's a shame because I have no doubt that the layout shoots great. It really looks like a fun shooting game. You KNOW the code will be awesome. The player camera and internet capability are great (I think they are going down the path of head to head games over the internet). Cool little things like having the game automatically set at 6.5 deg with levelers all the in are nice. Game features sound cool. The theme underneath is even maybe passable if this was priced at $7500 max. But $9k?? GTFO. Then there is a laughable version at $12.5k!!! BWAAAAAHAHAHAHA! That, my friends, will be the rarest machine in existence! Who will buy that? Who is buying the $9k one? The name of the game is horrendous. Dialed In! WTF is that? We have no idea. Possibly the worst name of a game in the modern era. Whoever suggest the Quantum City name is right. Much better name and it leads you to believe you'll be traveling around the city for your missions in the game. The cell phone gimmick is also terrible. Who wants to play pinball using their phone??? I can't believe someone at JJP didn't flag this whole concept as not a good idea. Keith?? Ted?? Anyone? I guess it's what these kids are into these days...LOL! Ridiculous. Then we get to the toys. There is nothing really awesome. At least there is physical ball locks in that building thing, but Mick on a stick? Really??? C'mon Jack, why recycle a turd like that? It should have been like Drac in MB at least where you are actually hitting the toy instead of a damn target underneath!! Then it would be much better.
At $9k a machine must blow my socks off in almost every aspect for me to buy. Alien comes closest with these new releases, but fails in art and I'm not sold on the platform itself and the layout/gameplay yet.
Jack better accelerate the JJP4 schedule because this one will not sell well.
I did think it was a big fail until I started reading about the gameplay. Seems cool. Too expensive and the art package sucks but it will be good if I can find one on location. It not sure any operators are going to take a gamble on this though.
Second thought, I doubt this will end up in production as it is now.
Quoted from iceman44:Here's the thing, I'm a big proponent of people being stupid with their own $$$, I do it all the time.
But this whole story line, from both Stern and JJP is getting to be a f ing JOKE. It's almost like they are in collusion with one another on pricing.
Jack standing up there and the way they did that presentation was pure arrogance with the new Hobbit LE version to the smug assertion that he assumes all 6,999 will be sold quickly.
It's one thing when a sales guy acts like a sales guy but I think in the race to the sleazy bottom, Jack just jumped right over Stern, not that either really matters.
$12.5 k to "get it by xmas". Really? F ing Really? Have everybody lost their minds? Really?
"It's game over man, game over"
Yup. 10k by Christmas. Oh now 20k. You hit it spot on....
Game OVER!!!!....This is gone dumb
Quoted from brucipher:Right...and why they decided to call this an LE is stupid. Just call it the standard and be done with it.
exactly, 6999 is not very limited.

Thanks god I get 3 flying drones. Whooaahooo!!!
Hopefully you get to the mode its a Galaxy Note 7 and you can burn the game down. My god what a "belly flop on crete." /facepalm.
Quoted from jwilson:Here's another one for you - Demolition Man.
Should be a good theme, but the terrible art and gruel-thin plot really turns people off. However, the game is gangbusters, easily one of my favourites.
But it's not an A-List game, no matter how much fun it is, because *the theme ruins it*. Dialed In could be the most amazing game ever but that title and the confusing theme are going to sink it.
Change it now while you still have time.
.
Quoted from OldSchoolBlood:People take chances on games like Roadshow, Demolition Man, Flintstones etc. With bad themes because of low price points. "Dialed In" may be fun, but for these new extremely high retail prices EVERYTHING must be near perfect to justify price INCLUDING theme. I just can't imagine this selling much at that price.
Agreed.
Game will probably be a lot of fun to shoot, as most Lawlor pins are. But a bad theme with super annoying sounds will prevent it from ever being anywhere close to worth $9k. And the $12.5k price for the collectors edition is just downright insane.
Holy shit, the value of my McCune restored MB just went through the roof!
Quoted from RobT:.

That's what I was thinking...LOL. My JP is surely worth $3-4K now in comparison!!
Yes, the pricing has gone up inline with other JJP games, but I think you finally hit a threshold where the number is a psychological turnoff. WOZ was 6.5K when announced and does not really justify its 8.5k price either.
8K would seem within reason...BTW, Stern is nuts pricing Batman 66 for 9K. That said, people will buy it.
The build quality of Dialed In looks great. I would definitely play this game. Not sure I want to own it....yet.
Quoted from PinJump:Played it again. Damn, it's fun. Really enjoy flipping this game. So conflicted because of the theme.
Lol...
Damn, it's fun....
Not sure if I like it because of name???
You people are funny.
If it was called anything but Dialed in you guys would not be saying it has a Cell Phone theme. The cell phone is the interface, the power base, it's like the Phone Booth in Bill and Ted's Excelent Adventure.
You are all getting too hung up on the name. It really does not have a cell phone theme... It is Named Dialed In... Which has 2 meanings. You Dial in to headquarters sure... But you are also dialed in... As in, in the zone.
The theme is disaster and you are the hero. The Phone is merely a gadget that every one of you has and understands.
You guys are caught up on the surface. It's damn funny.
I am not into Magic, But I like TOM...
Not a huge Star Trek fan, but own an STTNG and love it.
Demolition man is a great game, but could not care less about the movie.
The one game quote I heard was "Acid rain... Trippy" <- love it
I will not be taking a Deep Dive into my cash flow for this theme. Sure I'll play it, and probably like it. But, not spending money on this theme. Same reason I don't own a Road show. Fun game, has some good shots. Not putting Red and Ted in my game room.
How much is the 'otter box for this thing?
Just saw the gameplay video.. probably posted here but who has time to read all these posts?
Anyway for those that have not check it out.. gotta say i was as floored as everyone else with the reveal but the gameplay looks fun. Definitely a Lawlor game, reminds me of Road Show.. another game with poor theme that was fun.
JJP games definitely show off quality, lights show and extras even this early are pretty impressive.
Would definitely play on location.. reserving judgement.
Just played two games of "Phoned In"....sound is brutally bad combined with backbox tweeters makes it terrible. Game has some great shots, but it is WAY to easy. The annoying cell phone voices, handy Manny stick figure, the girl with a wrench toy......yuck. I heard someone say, -It's like RCT and Roadshow fucked and had a Simcity baby-......that's about right.
Quoted from JoeJet:Definitely a Lawlor game, reminds me of Road Show.. another game with poor theme that was fun.
I adore Road Show. I'd never spend $9k on Road Show.
I'd buy this game at an arcade auction for $1800 like Road Show lol ...but if operators don't buy it, we won't ever see a "cheap" Dialed In down the road.
Quoted from Rarehero:I adore Road Show. I'd never spend $9k on Road Show.

Yes...bought mine for $2k. I'd buy Dialed In for less money all day. It looks damn fun. For $9k though, it has to be a theme that resonates with me.
Quoted from beatmaster:exactly, 6999 is not very limited.
It's going to be limited to about 75 cause that's all they're going to sell.
When is jack going to come on here and tell everyone about changes coming based on feedback?
Oh jeez no I finally see why everyone was comapring the Rolling Stones...didn;t see that dude on a stick; ouch.
Quoted from SilverBallz:When is jack going to come on here and tell everyone about changes coming based on feedback?
I don't know...WOZ sure wasn't the best loved theme and they seem to be doing well with that i guess. I'd imagine there are more Lawlor Fans here than WOZ fans...I mean like hardcore movie fans.
Quoted from Pinbutt2000:Lol...

Yes it is fun and yes the name hurts it. If I buy the game it's to put on location. The name and art do not serve to draw in customers so that's a problem. Even as a collector the theme matters to most people.
Quoted from SilverBallz:When is jack going to come on here and tell everyone about changes coming based on feedback?
I doubt that's going to happen. I feel like Jack and Pat are all in on this thing....true believers. A finished product has been revealed.
Quoted from Rarehero:I doubt that's going to happen. I feel like Jack and Pat are all in on this thing....true believers. A finished product has been revealed.
I respect that. They should know the market and go for it. Sink or swim. They shouldn't make changes on every pin because people on pinside complain. If you don't know your market, you shouldn't be in the business.
Quoted from cait001:Movie theatres, Dave & Busters, Chuckie Cheeses, amusement parks, other kids play places.
But that was just speculation, I have no idea if this will do well anywhere.</blockquote
LOL, wait! You think that Pinside is where they should come to get marketing information? Too funny!
I don't think they design games based on a pinball forums idea of what is cool. They are NOT the market Pinball manufactures are after. They are looking to the Dave and Busters, Main Event type of buyers. If they think it is cool then it will be made. And to be honest those big retail chains couldn't care less about the theme as long as it keeps people entertained for short periods of time and most of those people don't play pinball on a regular basis. Look at how many pinsiders hate the WOZ but yet it is one of the top earners on routes. Why? It's flashy and is something different from the same old BS we have had for years that almost killed the whole market.</blockquote/If the concept was to target D&B, etc. going for the younger market, then it's a fail. I have kids. They don't play pinball and they've been exposed to pinball since they were in diapers. Kids and 20 somethings go for shooters and redemption games. I have a friend who manages a D&B. Their top earners are redemption games, then redemption games, then redemption games....the pins only get played when they have some corporate event and a Boomer plays them. Operators don't like pins, either. Way more difficult to keep fully functioning than redemptions and videos. Just look at some recent threads... how many arcade/pin locations are or have closed recently? Pins don't have the quick fix, immediate gratification that Millenials crave.
In short, any manufacturer that isn't putting serious marketing focus on selling to the home market is missing the boat.
Quoted from Rarehero:I adore Road Show. I'd never spend $9k on Road Show.
I'd buy this game at an arcade auction for $1800 like Road Show lol ...but if operators don't buy it, we won't ever see a "cheap" Dialed In down the road.
I thought I read that Pats game was not primarily targeted at us, but more for the operator. Another thing that struck me is how over the top flashy the game looks with the lights around the cell phone for example..looks like a ticket dispensing redemption game. Maybe this theme translates better to the current "Arcade" crowd?
Just a guess.
JJP certainly is trying to shake things up and I respect him being stubbornly optimistic.
In fact, you might say Jack is a simple Jersey boy, a "cockeyed optimist" from the beginning.
Quoted from robotron:what a cash grab. 12,500 to get it by christmas and it will also be signed. really got me me pissed off last night. especially after jack was bragging about the company being financially secure. to ask that kind of money is insulting. dont buy these special editions that are nothing special at all. vote NO with your wallets!!!
Not only that he bragged about the company being secure financially but then saying how they do it for the love of it. The love of what? Money?
I really wanted to give JJP my business and believe what Jack was trying to sell but that's all he was doing. Trying to sell us on a $12.5k pin because Lawlor's name is attached.
Quoted from JoeJet:I thought I read that Pats game was not primarily targeted at us, but more for the operator.
Operators won't buy a $9k pinball.
I seem to remember Jack contemplating or offering some kind of lease program for operators...that could get games on location.
Frankly I am glad they have a JJP#3 at all
Not everyone like or agrees on every pin. You like it bye it, if not - cool - JJP#4 looks more likely to happen than not. I was worried we wouldn't even get hobbit out...
Quoted from Sticky:Trying to sell us on a $12.5k pin because Lawlor's name is attached
That's the collector model. I think the pin is basically 9K like #1 and #2 (unless you ordered those early)
Quoted from SimonBaird:The difference this time around is that Jack can't afford to have the game 2 years away from shipping. I would not like to be Jack meeting with his investors when they see the feedback here and pre-sale orders. Speaking of investors, does it seem like both Stern and JJP went off the rails when new money came into both companies.
I have really tried not to get involved in the negative rants regarding pinball having jumped the shark and the crazy new price levels. In all honesty a figured $6-$7 was about the right price for NIB pins keeping inline with inflation from the 90's and overall drop in sales/production runs compared to those time. However going from wizard of Oz costing $6500 at launch to $9K for this game just seems more like profit taking. The sales numbers will determine which strategy works for the major manufactures I.e low run high margin, large run low margin.
Maybe this sounds crazy but with Stern and JJP in a race to milk the pinball community dry there is room for a company to come in and offer a value option.
$12.5k? If I'm plopping down $12.5k cash for something I'm likely parking it in my garage.
Maybe someone will come along who realizes gameplay is king and instead of trying cell phone gimmicks will offer pins that play great without pointless bells and whistles that inflate the cost.
Quoted from Sticky:If I'm plopping down $12.5k cash for something I'm likely parking it in my garage.
My Honda Accord was over 25K, and I park it outside. Guess what I have in my garage
Quoted from Goronic:My Honda Accord was over 25K, and I park it outside. Guess what I have in my garage
Well you use your space however you want to but my point is I'd rather use over $10k cash for a downpayment on something else. Not a damn $12.5k cell phone themed pinball machine.
Quoted from Sticky:Well you use your space however you want to but my point is I'd rather use over $10k cash for a downpayment on something else. Not a damn $12.5k cell phone themed pinball machine.
This I agree with you on - I can't do 12.5K on any pinball machine. I've only been in the hobby for 2 years now and have 1 pin. But this shit is getting crazy in the short time I have been here.
Quoted from Sticky:...but my point is I'd rather use over $10k cash for a downpayment on something else. Not a damn $12.5k cell phone themed pinball machine.
Sure sure...but we need to start wondering whom they are selling the game to. Your game section, if accurate, means you weren't even on their radar for buying a game anyway, so they don't care aboot you. Too rich for my blood too, and i have newer Sterns, but plenty of people here have a ton of cash. Why have to sell more machines than you have to? May be what they're thinking?
What do you mean $6K for the next pro? Let's get it under $5K and you might have my interest back to buy NIB games. Until then, go [email protected]&K yourselves Stern!
Quoted from TheLaw:Sure sure...but we need to start wondering whom they are selling the game to. Honestly, I have no idea who is buying this. It's a theme aimed at kids into cell phones, social media, selfies, etc., yet nobody that age can afford this.
Can I afford it? Yes. But I'd feel like such a tool spending over $12k on a pinball machine when I could literally have 4+ other awesome machines for that same money.
Quoted from Rarehero:Operators won't buy a $9k pinball.
I seem to remember Jack contemplating or offering some kind of lease program for operators...that could get games on location.
I dunno...this could be an awesome earner. I'll play the crap out of it if I see it in the wild. With nobody buying it the only way to play is in the wild. I bet it earns really well. Enough to pay off $9k? That's the question.
Quoted from Sticky:Honestly, I have no idea who is buying this.
It's a theme aimed at kids into cell phones, social media, selfies, etc., yet nobody that age can afford this.
Lawlor fans & JJP fans to start with. People with TONS of disposable cash whom are everywhere on this site. Who the fuck thought WOZ was a great idea? Not me...but again it's selling OK.
Maybe it's got awesome Lawlor gameplay for me, and stupid cell phone shit the rest of the world loves? Maybe it's a meeting ground?
You know what the dumbest thing i ever heard was? Using your phone to walk around like a fuck ass looking for Pokemon...how'd that work? Or right an Operator would never spend 9K for a game....IF it makes monies they will. What was WOZ...8K Hobbit 8.5k ish? Pretty close...those are on location.
