So at a friends house and in the corner is a doozie. He said it works. Turn it on and nothing. Push left flipper button and it turns on. We noticed the coil under the playfield is locked on and says change relay. Also noticed the bank of relays on the bottom of the cabinet, the first one is locked constantly. If you open it the game shuts off. I’m not much of an em guy but looking for advise. Also. Hit the yellow pop then both yellows fire. Same for the reds. Both fire.

The pops are tied together — normal.
Game turns on from left flipper — normal.
Relays on the bank are trip/latch so also normal.
Can you start a game with the start button? You may need to put credits on the credit wheel.

Once hitting the left flipper it won’t start unless you turn it off and on. Then will start. Score reel isn’t resetting all the way either. What about the coil under the playfield that is locking. Started to have a burn smell.

Are you sure it is the change relay? It is designed to be energized for long periods. Do you have a picture?

My buddy should get it to me tomorrow. It’s a smaller coil basically in the middle of the playfield and there is a sticker near by that says change relay

If it is under the play field it is likely the change relay. Should be able to stay energized all the time.

ok was worried about that being on. was warm and smelling a little bit. the first few times we messed around with it, I don't think it was on.

It is energized through the match unit on half the points (every 10 points it changes state).

gotcha. I think I need to pull the game out and take a look in the back box
