Hello pinheads!!
I purchased a doodlebug (love love how hard this game is) and to my knowledge it worked fine before i cleaned the top playfield and re-rubbered the machine. Now the game works but it doesnt doodle.
The centre switch (that activates the magnet) clicks (relay) when hit and the ‘stop doodle’ switches also release the relay.
I am not an EM guy, and I'm struggling and fear touching anything as i know the challenges if something is out of alignment. I checked all the switches above and below the playfield nothing is stuck closed when I re rubbered.
I would be willing to donate $20 to pinside for some resolution.

The doodlebug relay activates when the centre target is hit.

When you activate the stop switch the stop relay activates and the doodlebug relay releases

I have read something about the pulse relay being connected to this, but i do not see it activating.

The ohms to the magnet (game off and meter on each side of the magnet measure .51)

When i have the game on and the magnet is ‘off’ the dc volts measure 5.4. When i activate the magnet via the centre button it measures 55v

WOW!! Mark and ZACK!! I am in pinball nerd awwww!!

Ok I had to go to work so I will check this all out after work. thank you guys so much for the info.

Mark that Diagram is amazing thank you. never knew of your website, looking forward to poking around there.

Quoted from MarkG:

Beware, the Doodle Bug coil runs at 120 volts

is that why with the game off, but still plugged in I got a good zap when I touched the pulser coil while holding onto the side rail? that woke me up!

Quoted from zacaj:

so you need to disconnect at least one side to get accurate measurements.

my bad... I knew that, but was trying to rush before work. I will re check tonight.

Quoted from zacaj:

check the fuse, and make sure the fuse holder is tight

Yes I shoulda noted that in first post. Fuse is good and the holder is nice and snug

thanks again guys!!

Quoted from frenchmarky:

If you unscrew the plastic playfield 'window' and get the doodlebug started with your finger (when doodlebug should be doodling but isn't), what does it do?

nothing. the rollover switch activates (and chimes) but no magnet function.

So, should I have continuity with this magnet? Or is it not measurable because the wiring of the magnet has a coating on it?

#17 1 year ago

SOLVED!!!
Thanks guys! I will update in a little… just gonna drink a beer and enjoy this feeling of doodlebug working

Ok…. So the key was checking the continuity to the magnet. We noticed there wasn’t any.

For some reason there is a break in the wire on the one side to the magnet. It was covered in wlectrical tape but not soldered. My friend said even thou it looks connected it isnt. He sanded the wires and soldered them together. BOOM.
