Hello.

This is my development about a Domo board with led effects for a Star Trek NG. This is to replace simple bulb with my Domo board in both cannons. Each domo has 8 red leds for rotating light effect and one blue led for flash effect. This board do not need any installation, only replace bulb by domo and thats all, work inmediately.

Should make one to STNG, would be happy to install into mine!

Very neat, but would love to know more info such as cost.

Very cool!

I'd like to know the cost too and would love a pair to install in my STTNG cannons.

Hello and thanks.
I will inform about price in a few days, this is a prototype. Now programming several effects, will install and test in an STNG and will put some video and pictures, so may see the look installed and visual effects in video.

This board do not need installation, simply remove bulb and put the domo board in socket. Im preparing a version with several visual effects that will start randomly each time or custom effects on demand.

Kind Regards

I am in for a set... However, I must correct you... It is ST:TNG not ST:NG... "THE" Next Generation.

My only concern.... Will the diode/led emit enough light? I don't think they will Or is this designed to use a clear dome?

#9 4 years ago

Curious how this will look. In for a set if it comes out bright enough

I do not know enough about Diode LED's, but it sounds like you can really get them to be bright depending on the voltage. I guess it has a transistor that is amplifying the voltage... But then again I am a noob when it comes to this.

Very interested to see a video of the finished / installed product.
I'm personally skeptical about the clear dome / blue flash; but would need to see these in a video

yes!

Personally I would sand the inside of the clear dome to frost it.

I'd rather simply use the existing dome.

There was at one time a LED rotating beacon, but the originator fell off the face of the earth and the parts he used also. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/sttng-blue-laser-marker-lights-rotating-beacon-canon-mod#post-752422

I have some tiny model beacon that would fit perfectly.
might look into it

Today testing leds, not yet programmed rotating and flash effects. This is a simple test to check leds intensity. I think are right for these 3mm leds, at any rate may replace it by 5mm leds to increase intensity. The board may provide up to 25mA to each led, enough to manage any simple led that habitually need about 20/25mA max.

Also I have check that capacitor that install the board is enough to avoid the flash of original bulb that cut power supply to this board, but capacitor keep it for a perfect work of effect.

Along this week I will program several visual effects and will upload a video. About the cover I will try also to paint it internally with red and white translucent painting, and also will check with narrow angle leds to see what is the better look.

Hello:

Sorry for do not update this post, lately I was busy with DMD LED ST32 controller board development. As soon as possible I wil upload video about it working and will set the price.

#24 4 years ago

Also keep in mind us folks that already have faceted domed cannons. Maybe an un-domed solution that fits inside?

#25 4 years ago

A "must have" improvement - count me in if the price is OK

Ok, as soon as I finish DMD Led product I will do last test and program for these domo and will set price. Sorry for delays, Im busy with DMD Led now.

I've thought about to finish this project already, but replacing the THT Red LED by Digital RGB Multicolor Leds. I have options with 5x5mm and 2x2mm size leds. Also replace the microcontroller by a new and powerful ARM QFN32 for more visual effects, even use my current Creature controller design board to control these Led boards, so will be easy add or update visual effects, also config trigger of effects according with status of any switch or output (bumper, flasher, motors, etc...)

Today I received the APA102 RGB digital leds, the smaller 2020 are really fantastic, incredible in a small 2x2mm is an RGB led and the digital controller. I have also may ideas to apply these digital leds in more mods.

Fantastic
Any timeframe for production?

This will be fast, only need to think if use the Creature controller or do an autonomous small board with microcontroller and leds.

Compact design is plug and play, but can not custom effects or update. If devices connect to controller board in CPU (my Creature controller), this allow user may config effects and trigger by events (status of any input/ouput with different effects), also may synchronize effects between the two devices.

May be I will offer both options.
