An awesome friend gave me a totally Annihilated Dolly Parton project "game " . It consisted of a fully populated playfield , cabinet and backbox wiring , and all the boards and transformer . So basically all the raw ingredients I needed to do a retheme I had been thinking about for some time . The theme I've been wanting to do is Subhumans , one of my favorite bands , so here we go . First off I am not too far into this project (and it will take quite a while ) but I thought I'd better start posting as I already lost some progress pictures on a computer that quit working . So we will have to start at the point in which I have saved documentation (sorry). So picture a populated Dolly Parton playfield in poor condition and we'll start there , let's completely strip the playfield . Now we have a bare Dolly Parton playfield in poor condition , let's remove all the inserts and sand it down to the wood . Ok we have a bare wood Dolly Parton playfield with no inserts . I put in all white inserts and clearcoated the playfield to start the leveling process . I then painted the whole playfield white and cleared , At this point we can start the journey here on pinside .

I will be doing all the artwork in Black and white , like the album covers from Subhumans .

All the artwork on the playfield will be hand drawn and painted . Here is a picture of the start of my sketching . Bottom half of playfield will have artwork from the album 'The Day The Country Died ' .

I am considering doing a clear apron (some of the artwork I have already done will be covered by the apron ) still undecided on that though until I see how much is covered and how everything will look when finished . All the playfield plastics will be clear to let the playfield artwork show , and yes stripped down aesthetic is absolutely what I am going for with this . All artwork will be black and white (playfield , cabinet, backglass )

Although yeah , apron could just be replaced with ball guides …. Hmmm interesting . I think I still want a spot for rule/pricing cards , let's see what happens when I get to that point ( it is still a very long way away form that point and could really be changed at any time , even after the game is finished .

The song will be in the game , I will be doing custom sounds the same way I did on the Trilogy games . It will play Subhuman’s music also .

Thank you , yeah I think the game will look pretty good all done in black and white . It will be time consuming (I am not the fastest drawer or painter ) but I am pleased with the way it looks so far . The last time I got to see Subhumans was around 10 years ago , they were doing a tour a combination of subhumans/ citizen fish . One night they would play as Subhumans the next as citizen fish .

I was going to use the
29:29 Split Vision album cover , just need to find an image that will be good enough resolution to make a translite from .

I haven’t had much time to work on this project lately but I did get the artwork that I am using from religious wars finished .

Thank you . Rules will stay pretty much the same as Dolly Parton . I do need come up with something the replace the insert and corresponding targets lettering but as of now I am unsure what I will put in . All the lettering and numbers as well as the rings around inserts will be stenciled . I will first complete all the artwork I am doing by hand then I will clear coat it to protect it , then add the insert lettering and numbers.

Holy shit! Two years! I’ve had so many other projects going on that this one really got put on hold. Well I have finished a bunch of my other projects and finally have had some time to get back on this. Doing the artwork from “Internal Riot” in the middle near the pop bumpers as the artwork from “Rats “ in the upper left.

“From the Cradle to the Grave” artwork went in the upper left corner. I thought it makes sense having it there as that is where the ball enters the playfield.
