since we've been playing a lot of AMH before we head to bed, decided to move one of our dog beds underneath since he typically goes underneath (the other dog likes to play fight so it's his escape). He's nearly fallen asleep while playing

Quoted from eggbert52:

Don't let him go up or down stairs or hop on couches or in 7-10 years you'll be spending $5K. Please don't let him get a slipped disc or even worse. PM me if you need more info.

Way ahead of you. Had to put down a 4-1/2 year old dachshund about 6 years ago, stage 5 slipped disc with only a 20% chance of successful surgery. I carry them down the stairs every morning, and I have stairs for both the couch and our bed

Quoted from dtown:

Three months old and the wife's and my second Dachshund. Meet the Beemer. A dapple just like his twelve year old brother. Potty training ALL over again!

Ok, there must be something with pinball owners and dachshunds. You, me, Tommy Skinner, Zombi yeti.

Quoted from pinwiztom:

We used to let our dachshund (Dewey) sleep in our bed,
but since he is getting old and our new kingsize bed sits high off the ground,
he sleeps in his own dog bed close to ours.
The fear is if he jumps off the bed, he may injure his back.
Besides there is no room for him anymore what with our six cats
that do sleep on the bed with us most nights.

I have stairs built for the couch, bed, and back patio. I have a 10 year old and 13 year old dachshund. The 10 year old has never had issues, the older one had surgery a year ago (compressed disc). He walks fine, can walk up patio stairs, but the stairs to upstairs are too much for him so I carry him.
