    Similarly, my dachshund recently had terrible neck pain and would howl/scream when touched or even when simply looking up. He couldn't even eat unless hand fed. We had him on steroids and muscle relaxants, like you described, for about a month or 6 weeks while he was almost completely confined to his cage, which is actually what he wanted at the time- just to be left alone while he was in pain- so he would just sit in there even unlocked. He seems completely back to normal now, but it was quite a scare for us. Our next step would have definitely been going to a doggie chiropractor.
