My boy Luke. Lost him in 2010 after a year long battle with cancer, and a personal hell I never wish to repeat. He meant everything to me.

image-969.jpgimage-969.jpg.

Luke taught his new little brother (Oscar) everything. They shadowed each other day & night.

image-267.jpgimage-267.jpg

image-925.jpgimage-925.jpg

image-516.jpgimage-516.jpg

Luke's last meal, a jar of peanut butter and a new rawhide bone. His body was riddled with cancer, and he had a leg amputated a few months prior. He could no longer stand and the vet said it was time. Effin agony.

image-753.jpgimage-753.jpg

So it's been four years now, Oscar is a gem. He has his own little brother to teach. Dexter is a bit special, half whippet/beagle. All sorts of interesting behaviors in this mix.

image-777.jpgimage-777.jpg

Dex's Mom dresses him up sometimes with custom bandanas and things like this:

My wife just brought me this t-shirt ... This about sums it up:

Nice! Going to steal this and put it on an image of one of our dogs, and send it to the wife. Thanks for the idea!

Quoted from navajas:

What "non-standard" means is sort of, "Here's what people intend when they utter or type this collection of sounds or letters, but it's not really a word". It's actually a bit of debate among linguists very much along the lines of prescriptive vs. descriptive grammar. Really. We argue over these things.

We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.

Dam, he wants in the house ..

Just like a kid Dex is difficult to get inside sometimes ... until I give his brother a treat, then he wants in pronto!

We lost our Welsh Corgi Ronan today. I swear my family and I loved him more than we love each other. Sad times here today.

Very sorry. I know all too well how it feels.

My pup's Oscar & Dexter several years back. Oscar (a boxer-shepherd mix) just turned 10, and Dex (a Whippet-Beagle mix) is now 5. Time sure flies.

Quoted from jwo825:

A whippet/beagle mix has to have a great profile. I'd like to see a pic of Dex standing. I think my little one is a chi-weenie. Not sure because she's adopted, but she's got extremely long legs and her body is skinny and curvy like a whippet's.

I take a billion photos of Dexter, but wouldn't you know it I can't find a recent one of him standing. Here's a good one showing his long legs. He's pretty quick with them too ... excellent hunter.

Another pic of my "whiggle" Dexter ... showing off his flying skills.

A somewhat dated photo of me and my pup Oscar at the vet (Dec 2015). I get stressed when my pups have to endure any form of pain; they live such short lives and reward us with such great companionship it ain't fair. Fortunately this was just a routine tooth cleaning (but put him out for it) and he did just fine.

Quoted from jrockne:

Update on Sydney,
We just got word yesterday about the additional tests they performed on the tumor. They do five additional tests, and all five came back good. So after two weeks fearing the worst, they told us that they don't think the cancer will reappear, and for the time being there would be no needed treatment! They told us to monitor the area, and if we notice anything new address it then.
I can say one thing, these past two weeks seemed a lot longer than the two years I waited for my MMr!
Thanks for all the positive thoughts!

All the best. Positive vibes your way. Play it safe and watch her like a hawk.

My Mom has cancer. Doctor gave her 2-6 months to live ... but here we are 10 months later. She claimed to be never much of a dog person, but since moving in with us after learning of the bad news my boys (Oscar on the left, Dexter on the right) have been very close to her. She finds comfort in their company, talks to them like a loving mother, and takes time to chill with them on our patio. My little friends don't know how much joy they bring to our lives. I am so very grateful.

Is Dexter the guy who has a picture a million posts back of him jumping like a kangaroo outside the sliding glass doors?

Good memory. Yeah, that’s Dex. I plan to do a slow-mo vid of the same.

Looking for a stuffed animal toy that won't be ripped to shreds in less than a day! Is there even such a toy /brand? For large dog.
Thanks

My dogs have ripped every “indestructible” stuffed animal toy to shreds in less than a day ... usually an hour or less.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

Speaking of dog food, what do you guys use? My last dog was on Blue Buffalo but I’ve started this guy out on Taste of the Wild. Hopefully Its a good quality food.

Taste of the Wild is quality food. We switched to Merrick Grain Free a couple of years ago, and are very happy with it too. There are excellent reviews of these and many other grain free options here:

Dry food
https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods/best-grain-free-dog-foods/best-grain-free-dog-foods-dry/

Wet food
http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods/best-grain-free-dog-foods/best-grain-free-dog-foods-canned/

We’ve always opted for dry as the boys get loose stools too often on the wet. And then there’s the cost of wet, and a bunch of stinky old cans left behind to recycle. We add water to the dry for a bit of gravy, and there’s always fresh water around otherwise.

Hanging with Dex on the local dog beach. He’s exhausted from some serious play with a couple dozen other pups. Despite how he looks, I think he was really happy.

The Grey Hound is like what are you doing up?

Yep, that's a greyhound ... blissful couch potato. 5-7 minutes of explosive energy twice a day, then it's back to the couch.
