Quoted from ImNotNorm:Best thread on Pinside!!
This is the thread I typically read after all the others because it's the one that greets you with a smile no matter how crappy those other threads become.
Quoted from Skatewake:Another day of playing ball
[quoted image]
Whippet? Those are always the center of attention at the dog park. Fast as hell!
Quoted from chuckwurt:Bath day!!
[quoted image][quoted image]
Gotta love that 1 floppy ear look!
Quoted from Madmax541:This isn’t an easy post for me, but feel I need to share.
After struggling to eat for past week took Magnum my English Lab to the vet, and found he had a tumor the size of a basketball in his stomach. He had been to the vet 3 month prior for annual check up, healthy12 year old lab.
We had to put him to slept, family was there to say good bye. This one is tough, due to COVID we spent every day all day together for past 2 years.
Looking back on last month he just didn’t seem the same less active.
Great loyal friend will be missed.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Sorry for your loss. I am sure you enriched his life just as much as he did yours.
Quoted from ShinyBall:He who has the most toys wins.
[quoted image]
That is hilarious! I'm guessing they don't get along all that well.
Quoted from Madmax541:So true.
Two things I miss the most getting greeted every time I come home and him always by my side.
We will get another dog
There's plenty out there that need a forever home.
Quoted from Strummy:Happy 14th Zeus! Going to get your rib eye now!
[quoted image]
Happy 14th bday, Zeus! Looking good!!
Quoted from HC2016:Lazy afternoon
[quoted image]
On top of the couch cushions is exactly where mine likes to nap, too.

That belongs in a frame on wall or desk somewhere
Quoted from zarco:On a sad note had to put down my long time buddy Rupert the
other day. Almost made it to 18 years. The house seems empty.
Steve
So sorry for your loss. Having Rupert for 18 years is fantastic and we should all be so lucky to have our canine companions in our lives for so long. My sincere condolences.
Quoted from Goalie:This is my boy Dozer. He’s 1 and a half years old, 195 lbs.
[quoted image]
Whoa.... Big boy!
Quoted from chuckwurt:Does anyone have dogs that only will play with one type of toy? If sam sees any toy that isn’t this, he couldn’t care less about it.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
Those pigs are obnoxious noise makers! We have one plus a chicken version. Thankfully my dog opts mostly for the plush toys or I'd go crazy.
Quoted from Madmax541:Have a new buddy - Marty
[quoted image][quoted image]
I'd upvote this twice if I could
Quoted from yzfguy:I'd go with the grey on the right
Lol!! That's what we're doing!
Quoted from Birdnest:Bernie had ligament surgery this week - poor guy is not allowed on stairs and is already wondering why he is not allowed upstairs
[quoted image][quoted image]
Wishing him a fast recovery!
Quoted from dr_nybble:Charlie's 4th birthday today! He's looking forward to some burger for dinner.
[quoted image]
Happy birthday Charlie!
giphy.gifQuoted from gliebig:[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
LOL! Love that side-eye shot
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Daisy loves watching pool. She tries to nip the cues every now and then. Doesn't really care for the balls
[quoted image][quoted image]
Daisy is a cutey! We had a border collie, too. She had a strong herding mentality. Her favorite toy was an Indestructaball, basically a big, hard plastic ball that she pushed around with her nose and barked at on occasion. She would also nose our ankles on our walks. I guess to get us to move faster or change directions. Miss her but so glad she was a part of our life.
Quoted from wtatumjr:Phoebe and what's left of my belt
[quoted image]
You mean Phoebe's belt, right?
Quoted from DUFUS:After a period of mourning for my sweet lady, Dufus, who passed away last June, I now have this Norwegian Elkhound boy in the house. Or in the yard as pictured. Welcome "Tooki", abbreviated/Americanized/phonetic for tokig-hund (Swedish for crazy dog, an exclamation my grandmother often used).
[quoted image]
Not sure I've ever seen an elkhound before.
How big will Tooki get?
Quoted from dirkdiggler:This is Daisy's friend Violet from across the street. 11 month old Malamute. A few times a week they play for 15 to 20 minutes or till Violet gets tired of chasing Daisy around.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Always nice to have a friend wear out some that energy! Either that or Violet is building up Daisy's stamina
Quoted from Luckydogg420:This is Rudy, today he is called stink face [quoted image]
And this is Lucy, she’s the innocent one, honest.[quoted image]
Stink Face and my dog, Halitosis, should never, ever meet...
PXL_20220625_163005025.MP (resized).jpgQuoted from FatPanda:Our gal Pepper just turned 13 in March but over the weekend her health declined very quickly. We know it'll be time for her soon, but doing what we can to make her comfortable.
Just last Saturday she was acting like herself, but Sunday took a turn for the worst. We took her to the vet, and got an array of tests and bloodwork done, but no prognosis. Blood in her urine, yet no signs of infection, and bloodwork indicate normal kidney and liver function. Lower than normal platelet counts, but without further tests, cant really tell what it is.
Here she was on her birthday on March 1. This is what we sign up for when we bring these amazing creatures into our families, but no matter how many times it happens, it's always so difficult. Give your dogs the biggest hugs and the yummiest treats.
[quoted image][quoted image]
Sending positive thoughts your way...
Quoted from FatPanda:Vet visit went as expected. The prednisone is doing its job. I guess it's up to us whether we want to continue to give it to her as a maintenance drug, and extend her days or stop giving it to her...ultimately it depends on how she behaves while being on it.
Vet wants to do blood tests every few days, but we're not going that route. Couldn't afford it in the long term and it really doesn't add value in the big picture. Sometimes I feel like vets are sales people, always trying to get you to spend money. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
The other half is telling our kids. They're going to be heartbroken.
Sorry guys. Don't mean to bring this thread down. It was a thread that I went to when I was having some personal trouble. These posts always made me smile.
Let's get back to our regularly scheduled program!
If it helps to post about it, feel free to share. Many of us have been there and understand.
Quoted from bob_e:Jackass will go in for surgery to correct a birth defect on his front paw. I bought this "donut" to replace the "cone of shame". It inflates and has a Velcro strap. He can get around with great ease compared to the cone. Which was always dragging in the snow and banging into the walls and furniture.
[quoted image]
Hope Jackass has a quick recovery. The donut looks good on him!
Quoted from hwyhed:Are you gonna share that sandwich w me daddy or what
[quoted image]
Ha! There is a certain look of expectation there.
Quoted from hwyhed:Best part of working at home today is spending some time w Ollie & Sammy
[quoted image][quoted image]
Cute pics! What breed of dog are Ollie and Sammy?
I find that the older I get, the smaller the dog I adopt becomes. This breed might be in my future!
Quoted from Thor-NL:Looks like OTTO giving you the stink-eye for drinking
Looks like little Otto has had a few himself.
Quoted from 30FathomDave:MacReady had fun at the park tonight. That horse in the background is her buddy, Finn.
[quoted image]
Good pic of MacReady. Looks like she is having fun!
I've got to say that is some nice looking grass for being out in AZ and in a dog park no less. Dog parks around here are typically pockmarked with dead grass or mud holes.
Quoted from EJS:Meet Kiwi
[quoted image]
[quoted image][quoted image]
Welcome to your new family, Kiwi. I suspect you've found a good home.
Quoted from Jaybird815:My audience while I lay flooring.[quoted image]
That's awesome. When I saw that, I thought of the line from Ghostbusters about "dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!"
Quoted from wtatumjr:Here's an idea we do every year here in Corolla called Dogtoberfest. I hope this idea might catch on with others here. We invite other dogs and owners over for dog treats and a to go bag for each dog. The owners have beer, sausage, sauerkraut, etc. There's a donation basket for the local animal shelter All the dogs and owners has a great time last Monday. As my phone was used to YouTube the Octoberfest music thru a Bluetooth speaker I didn't get any pictures of the event, but it was fun
[quoted image][quoted image]
Terrific idea and does sound fun!
Quoted from jrcmlc:Willie got an allergy shot yesterday and his nails trimmed...he tried to eat the vet's face, as usual.
[quoted image]
We had a dog that had to have monthly allergy shots which only provided slight improvement and comfort. Horrible experience that went on for 2-3 years until we switched to Atopica, which was newly available at the time. It was night and day difference. Atopica worked spectacularly. No more scratching herself until she would bleed. We hated those shots.
Quoted from FatPanda:Wow, it's been a minute since I've visited this thread. Seems like last I posted was when the old gal passed. Funny enough, it was a FB memory that popped up when we celebrated her birthday that reminded me this thread is here
As of January 6, 2024, we adopted a new pup! Her name is Nola (I'm originally from New Orleans, LA so have some connection there even though I didn't spend a ton of time there) and she's been such a fun dog to have. She was surrendered by her family in a southern state (Georgia I think it was?) She had spent some time at the shelter there, not sure how long.
Anyway, she was brought up to WI the last week in December 2023, was spayed on Tuesday, Jan 2, then went home to a foster parent on Thursday, Jan 4. We applied for her that same day (all events at this point unbeknownst to us), an at-home visit was scheduled for Saturday, Jan 6, and we signed for her after about 2 hours lol. This is our fist dog smaller than 65 lbs (she's 13 lbs) and she is SPICY! Still lots of puppy in her. We were told her birthday was in September 2022, so just right around 1.5 yrs old.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Adorable pup! Perfect size in my opinion. The older I get, the smaller the dogs I adopt, it seems.
Quoted from Strummy:We lost Maya today. Rest in Peace my sweet girl.[quoted image]
So sorry for your loss
Quoted from bob_e:Cooper decided to take over Mom's lap
[quoted image]
Could Cooper be any happier? Look at his smiling face
Quoted from jrcmlc:I think we're going to call him Paul.
The name "Lucky" seems somewhat appropriate. Lucky that Paul found someone like you and your family before his situation got any worse. Good on you!
