My buddy brought his two dogs over the other night. It was nice having furry friends in the house since losing mine a couple months ago.

Quoted from gliebig:

My dog has issues. He loves me and my family, but gets puffy and growls at other people, even people he knows. I don't think its a real aggressive growling as he will growl then a couple seconds later, lick peoples hands and wag his tail. He will even bring toys for people to play tug/fetch with him, but doesn't like people touching him.
It's a pain because he comes to work with me everyday. I tell people, when they come in the door, just to ignore him and generally all is well. But, there's close interaction so his weird behavior happens multiple times per day.
I got him when he was about 1yr old from a rescue, so I don't know his history. I think he is a really good dog, I don't know if he's protective or just not trusting of people.
Has anyone tried CBD oil on their dog? I'm wondering if it may help his "anxiety"? I texted our vet this morning to get his opinion.
[quoted image]

Try hemp chews for dogs. They worked on my dog as she was getting anxiety in her older years. They calmed her down and she had no problem with digestion either. You can get them at pretty much any pet store or online.

I’m so sorry to hear about your pup Wizard This is a tough Christmas for us too. It will be our first Christmas in 18 years without our sweet Phoebe. She just loved tearing into all the presents.

I also recently lost my beautiful Lexi. It's been three weeks now and I and the house still feel empty inside. Even with her one canine and eight feline siblings here to comfort me. She is greatly missed by all. Thirteen great years she gave us.[quoted image]

So sorry. She’s a beautiful dog.

This is one of my favorite threads here. Always love seeing other furry friends, but today felt like a great support group and actually helped me feel a little bit better since I’ve been pretty sad that I won’t be watching my baby ripping open any gifts this year. Sorry but here’s a couple more pics of my sweetie. The last pic was from the day before I had to say my final goodbye. From the minute I got home from work till the time I went to bed, this was us cuddling on the couch.

I have a question for you all. We have been looking to rescue a dog since it’s been awhile since we had to say goodbye to our sweet Phoebe several months ago. You might have seen the pics I posted here before plus she’s my profile pic. Anyway, we’ve never adopted before because Phoebe was actually found by my brother in law running down the highway when she was only about 6 months old and we’ve had her ever since. 18.5 years! Now we found a rescue dog online that we, for some reason, really felt a connection just from her pics. I know it’s sounds crazy but I really felt something.

I’m so pissed right now. My wife is literally sobbing upstairs because of the phone call she just had with the lady who has the dog. Without getting into a long explanation, this bitch basically started judging us over the phone and treated my wife like she had no business adopting a dog. She was telling us that the dog would be no good for us because we didn’t have another dog for the rescue to be with. But she had some pit bull mix that we might be interested in. WTF? Who does that? She then tells us to fill out the form so she can find out if we would be a good match. OK no problem. I understand that.

So I look at the form to fill out even though I think this lady is a wack job. Sure as shit, now the red flags pop up. First off, no adoption fees are listed. Secondly, the questions seem like I’m taking out a 500K loan from the bank. 3 references but can’t be family members. Is that normal? How much do I plan on spending each year on the dog? What will I do if it barks? What brand food will I feed it? Who will feed it? There’s many more questions besides the normal, who’s your vet and how many hours will it be alone etc.

Is this normal procedure? I’m so mad right now that this lady treated us like we were animal abusers just for inquiring about the dog. Maybe I’m overthinking the form to fill out because of how the lady was on the phone. She really seemed like she was trying to steer us away.

Sorry for the long post, I’m a little worked up right now. Looking for help on what to look for from a legit adoption agency and what to steer clear of. Thanks

Quoted from Sputnik:

Yes I would be irritated, try a take it as she really wants to find an excellent home for the dog. Every animal that has lived with us has been a rescue. Unfortunately there are a lot of dogs that need a home where their human grills a small burger for them each weekend.

Thanks. I think she was doing more than trying to find the perfect home. It was so weird the way she acted. We call to get info on how to meet the dog. First thing the lady asks is if we had another dog. We of course do not and she says, yeah that isn’t going to work, the rescue dog needs another dog because it’s afraid of loud noises. We shrugged that off because our dog was same way and it’s no big deal to us. The lady then asks if we have kids. Yes we tell her, 15 yr old. She once again says that the rescue would not be a good fit because of that. Seriously? We’re talking about a Labrador here. They are great dogs with everyone. Every time she makes up an excuse for why we won’t work, we say it’s not a problem for us and we still want to see the dog. And btw, we tell her we’re kind of offended that she’s dismissing us so quickly without knowing anything about us. She could care less.
Now here’s where I’m starting to suspect this lady is a thief. She claims the dog was found by someone and listed it as healthy and.......wait for it....house trained. Yet it’s appx 7 months old. I think this is someone’s dog and that’s why it’s skittish with her. Also every shelter or rescue place tells you the adoption fees up front and what that includes as far as shots etc. This lady doesn’t provide any of that. I suspect this is very shady and now I feel awful for the animals that she has. I’m thinking she’s out looking for lost dogs to turn around and sell.

Rant over. We will be going to legit rescue shelters to find our new family member.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

Well I really effed that up. What I was going to say JayDee is this is a dog pound dog, not bad huh? Also find out what day the shelter sits there new dogs out and try to go on that day because if you find a guy like this boy here he won't last but a day or two at the most probably.
Also it wont be you that picks the dog out probably, usually the dog picks you and just grabs ahold if your heart! You may very well end up with a dog that is totally opposite of what you thought it would be. Good luck buddy. You will find your new best friend very soon.

No worries, guys. We are not considering any dogs unless they are rescues. We actually did go to a local petco today to meet a couple dogs we are interested in at their adoption day event from local shelters. Paperwork is all filled out, so now we wait for them to arrange a house visit to see if we are a good fit for either one. One of the dogs had multiple people interested, so it should be interesting to see how that pans out. Either way, we are excited and hope to have a new family member soon.
Even though the two pics look similar, they are the two different dogs that we are interested in.

Does anyone have a home available for a 3 year old German shepherd. A customer of mom bought a home and the HOA won’t let him keep it. He says he is going to put it down. It is in Houston Texas.

Convince him to surrender the dog to a no kill rescue shelter. They will gladly take the dog in and help find it a new home.

No, I couldn't. With everything happening as of late I figured it would be a nice boost for the wife. She's also working from home now and will be skyping and using video chat so she's turning the guest room into her new office. I figured this would help spruce things up in her new office.
I plan on getting two more for the dogs we have now.
Thanks again!

You bet! It turned out great!

Yeah same here. They are constantly running across my front yard. Last year we watched them have a get together in the elementary school yard across the street. There were at least 15 of them were either lounging and chilling out, or wrestling with each other and playing. I saw a few others trotting down the street to join up in the fun. It was so crazy.

Quoted from mtn-:

Unfortunately, couldnt watch due to GDPR.

Amazon driver making delivery hears commotion in backyard. Peeks over fence to see 14yr old husky struggling to keep head above water. So he jumps in to save it. Owners were away from home at the time but animal control person lived down the street from them and knew the dog so contacted the owners after arriving to the call. The driver stayed with the dog for over an hour while waiting for the animal control to arrive. The dog being a senior, has issues with it's back legs so it would have drowned for sure if the driver wasn't there.

I gave her half a pill in late afternoon when there was going to be fireworks that night. It fucked her so bad that I was scared for her. She was so zonked out but wouldnt just take a nap. My bro and another buddy was over so she wanted to mingle with us but couldn’t walk. She tried to move around but looked like a walking dead dragging legs and shit. I could see the panic on her face wondering what was going on with her. She knew something wasn’t right.

I never want to to do that again. But I feel so bad knowing 4th is coming up and all week of storms here.

Quoted from Jaybird815:

I know that look, it’s as if they must come and tell on themselves.
[quoted image]

Ah, yes. The “I wonder if he knows what I did look”.

This is how my baby likes to sleep at night. She literally shares my pillow. Definitely not a fan of how early I have to get up each day though, as you can see.

One of the next door neighbor’s dogs just got into my yard again. And then proceeded to come into my house for a little look around

Quoted from ImNotNorm:

Spoke with the animal control people and put up this sign at the end of the driveway.
The wife and I have agreed to keep him for the day/night in the hopes the owner sees my sign. If nothing by tomorrow we will hand him over to the city animal control people.
Fingers crossed.

I wonder if he has a chip. Could always take a trip to vet to get scanned. Maybe a local vet even knows who he is

Quoted from ImNotNorm:

No need. Owners found thanks to my driveway sign.
He is back home. The owner was showering when he broke off his tether and escaped.
(Not sure I'd leave my dog in frigid weather while I showered..... but ya never know some dogs like the cold)
Now back to your regular scheduled dog postings

Great news!!!!
