I had to cook my dog a 1/4 pounder this morning to get her to eat something, had one myself while I was at it

Today was a very hard day, as we had to put our beloved Rosie Down.
    She made it to 13-1/2.
Rosie came to us by a chance visit to a puppy place, as 2 big eyes stared us down from a crib.
My wife and I were hooked within minutes.
What we enjoyed, was pure sweetness. Self kept, never demanded or begged, independent, yet with you at every right time.
Sometimes it seemed like her whole goal was to be a person.
She tried her best to talk, and we managed a few rough, "I rove you".

The last year and a half was more special to me, as Covid, and a major back issue, left us sharing heating pads, Naps and snacks
on the bed from 4-6 almost every day.
Something truly bonding when you are on their level, and sharing food.

More tears, then words. Rosie will be sorely missed.

    Some pics.

Condolences, I'm so sorry to hear.

I love Bassetts. There was one that got a walk every day near my office building. That walk time apparently overlapped his nap time. He'd pull up and lay down in a full sprawl nearly every day, middle of the sidewalk, or wherever. His owner had no choice but to just wait until he was satisfactorily rested. Always gave me a smile.

Thank you all for the kind words and support.
I realized this was only the second Dog, Ive put down, and we have always had dogs.

Missed that happy face this morning, as she would have been in bed with us.

How many of you feel your dogs have a higher level of smartness and communication,
    without training and reward?

Their ability to sense issues, offer empathy, and trying to communicate seems to me to have increased with each generation.

That begged the question lately, Ive posed to family and friends.
(and I dont mean to upset anyone)

I think so, she has been sulking not eating etc for over a week since her partner ‘disappeared’. Just started eating thank God and coming to terms with her friend gone even though he was a bad mofo and she would growl when he came near her sometimes. I thought she would be glad to see the back of him but guess I was wrong. So the answer to your question from here is yes.
Just got my GC on AFM of 26 billion and I’m in bits again, bloody dogs who would have them!
Yes she ate all the leather from our sofa

Thats a beautiful little Boston. How old is he?

    #4284 12 days ago
    Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

    Do Dogs have Souls?

10000000000%. They have very complex emotions just like us, they can sense all different types of feelings and emotions in other animals and humans.

I always adopt adult dogs because I know they know you’re saving them. It makes that bond much stronger. I don’t do lots of strict training. We just gain a mutual understanding, respect, and love for each other.

    #4285 12 days ago
    Quoted from mtn-:

Thats a beautiful little Boston. How old is he?

Thanks! We’re not sure how old he is, as we adopted him 3 years ago via a rescue, best guess is 8-9 year’s old. Bostons are an awesome breed, and he’s a fantastic pup!

    #4286 11 days ago
    Quoted from PlanetExpress:

    Bostons are an awesome breed

Yes they are. My first dog was a Boston Terrier that my Grand Dad insisted on bringing it to my home for me when I was around 4 years old.

My Grand Dad said that that boy needs a dog, even though my parents really did not want one at the time.

His name was Frisky. (I did not name him, have no clue who did, I was only like 4).

For whatever reason I have never had another Boston, but at times in the past I would look for one, and either get gifted another breed, or a stray would wander in, but I am very fond of Boston's, love seeing them, and petting them when I can.

I love all dogs. If I had time I would love to just hang out at the pound for a while and pet every pup that was wanting to get petted.

I am not ready for another dog myself yet.

The last dog was a 2 year old pit that we rescued, and that dog was AWESOME!

But while my entire yard is fenced in, it is not safe anymore.

Coyotes came in and got that dog.

And he got to stay in the house most of the time anyway, but that one day I left him in the yard for a couple of hours while I had to be away taking care of some things.

It sucks that my whole yard is fenced in, and a dog could have a lot of area to run and play, but is not safe now.

Anyway I love seeing all the doggie pics here, and like everyone else I am always sad when there is a sad story here.

    Dogs are the best!

Amazing. My first dog was a Boston Terrier mix. Small, head like a lab. Black, white spot on her chest. She was so frisky, full of energy. I named her Frisky.

    Quoted from neverahighscore:

He loves people,so you have no worries. When he was a puppy,I always brought him to Home Depot to help socialize him.
Whenever anyone comes over plumbers, electricians, furniture movers you name it,I have them meet Louie. I always crate him up when a new guest comes into the house. Sometimes I have them give him a dog treat but not always. I ask them to place the back of their hand close to the crate,so Louie can check them out. Next thing you know, his big tongue pops out of the crate and he’s trying to lick their hand. As far as he’s concerned he just made another friend.
Rottweiler’s are excellent dogs if you properly socialize them and give them plenty of obedience training.
    P.S
The only time he ever want after someone is when they beat me in pinball or bubble hockey
