My pup was supposed to go in to get her lady bits modded tomorrow. They put it off to April since she's entering her first heat (we had a check this morning). Not excited about this. Anyone have any advice?

Well, keep her away from male dogs. (Unless they have had their testicles removed, which Ive understood is alot more common in USA than in Scandinavia)
Also you should get her "dog diapers" so that she doesnt drip blood everywhere. Besides that, dogs are different and react different during this phase, just like us. Ive seen both cuddly, restless and "somewhat bitchy".
Its really nothing to worry about though.

Before we spayed our girls we would use boys undies and put them on so the tail sticks out the hole in the front. We would use safety pins to cinch the waistband in for a better fit and also had to slightly cut the “tail home” to fit well. Would then use panty liners inside to absorb the flow. Much cheaper than actual dog diapers, and our three girls tolerated them well and left them alone for the most part.
Your girl is quite a bit larger than ours so not sure on sizing though
Our Molly had her first spotting on the floor of the vet's office as we were dropping her off for lady bit mods. Ugh! Had to go home unmodded!
So I did my good deed for the day. I stopped to get gas and there was a poor momma dog begging for food. People tried to run her off. I had a bag of beef jerky and gave it to her on the corner and while she was eating that I bought a bag of food and gave that to her. Poor thing ate the whole bag right there. It makes me sad to see animals in need of help and people walking past them.

Yes!
She’s pretty bitey right now but that comes with the puppy territory. Nice when she’s tired.
