Woke up to today with the sound of smashing glass and the wife screaming . Dopey Doug went to run outside but the door was shut , so he put his head through the glass . Luckily he didn't have a scratch on him and his head is like a brick . I've got a temporary fixed going but will have to get some perspex from work .

I just had my first experience with a death of a dog, not mine but my daughters - boyfriend.

We were camping that weekend about an hour away from his house, dog was not with us.

He got a call saying the dog went outside and just laid down and wouldn't move.

I immediately loaded daughter and boyfriend in the truck.

About half way home we got the call I was hoping not to get....

He stopped breathing.

I was not close to the dog only seen him twice, but to see the emotions on the kids was horrible!

He was a 10 year old Rottweiler, but a very gentile giant!

I almost cried when I had to help move him off the ground and into his favorite blanket to get him to his resting place.

They said he was chasing chipmunks an hour earlier, then possibly had a bad seizure.

Glad Doug is okay!

So sorry to hear Bull. I feel like whenever or however these pups go, it always seems so sudden.

Unfortunately dogs don't last long enough...

Quoted from screaminr:

Glad he's okay.

If you have kids or pets. You'll have messes or broken stuff. My little angel took out a neon sign in my window. Thankfully she didn't have a scratch on her.

Quoted from Bull:

I just had my first experience with a death of a dog,

I'm sorry for your families loss.

Bunker relocation. So little otto has to stay inside his little jail.

Quoted from screaminr:

Wow Doug is better than Houdini at escaping danger, glad he's okay. Once fixed you might consider painting a small spot or hang something on it so he can see it's closed.

Quoted from Bull:

I just had my first experience with a death of a dog, not mine but my daughters - boyfriend.

Sorry to learn of your loss, it's sometimes even more difficult for us to see our loved ones suffer as it triggers our instinct to comfort and protect them and we feel that helplessness. Hang in there things will get better and one day you'll find yourself smiling instead of crying when you have thoughts of them.

Are they all goldens????

The one in the middle “smile” looks just like mine.

She isn’t smiling in this picture though because she misses her friend.

Mine is slightly lighter though!!!

She is looking for my girlfriends dog who isn’t with us this weekend at camp.

They are Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers. The one in the middle is mom (will be 14 in September) and the others are two of her pups and will be 10 in November. They all love the water!

After Doug's mishap he was a bit down , so we took him to the park and he was back to his happy self .

My daughter's friend came to visit with Ranger, a German Shepard who is about 8 months and still growing. He likes water and thought some standing water in my tractor bucket would be a good place to cool down. He may not fit the next time he comes to visit!

Hello All,

This is my favorite thread by far! Thought I'd post a pic of my one girl, Allie, her birthday was the fourth of July, always a fun day! Last week she had to have surgery to remove a tumor. I was floored when I saw how big the incision was. Thankfully she is doing good and is on the mend. Her fur has started to grow back too! Naturally her and my other boxer Poppy are spoiled rotten! When Allie had to go in for the surgery, Poppy was looking all over for her inside and when I had her out. It was a relief to Poppy once Allie got home she settled right down and wouldn't leave the room. Amazing how in tune they are.

Beautiful boxer! I had a snow boxer before, his name was Junior. He passed at the age of 10, and I still think of him daily.

I dont have any pictures of him on the phone, but I have this on my wall.

(On the right is my current dog's father, Kompis. Whom Junior actually raised in his day.)

So they live on in a way.. A good way!

(Kompis means friend in norwegian/swedish)

Get well soon Allie. I've gotten pretty worked up over my own getting surgery so I know your anxiety. Fortunately they seem to heal fast and bounce back good. Keeping Allie and your family in our prayers for healing, she'll be up and around before you know it and you'll have your baby back.

Thanks RWH, Much appreciated! They do bounce back quick indeed! We just heard today her tumor was a stage 1 so got it early thank God. Doc says she will be go to go for a long time to come! Talk about a sigh of relief.

Here's one of Dobby from his observation deck keeping an eye on all activity on the bike trail, and another one asking the all-important question: "Are you going to stay downstairs for a while this time, or are you coming right back upstairs again?"

Dogs are great. It's been about 25 years since my last dog but we're picking up a golden retriever puppy next weekend. Say hello to our puppy-to-be.

Thinking of naming her Bela or Bella.

Just like every other Aussie mammal, it will kill you. Especially bloody Drop Bears.

They're pretty cool . After thousands of years dealing with dingoes they just dig themselves into the ground so their spines are sticking up .

Had to look up Drop Bears - they are almost as vicious as the Giant Black Panthers we have here in Illinois. I saw one on a snipe hunt as a young boy scout.

Apparently we have Panthers as well . The story goes they were army mascots that were released Into the Wild during World War 2
