Quoted from bob_e:

Jack aka Jackass came home today. He had surgery on his left wrist to correct a birth defect. He has pins, plates and screws hold the bones in place for now. I have to keep this hyper active beagle crated for 3-4 months. Right now I have to carry him outside for potty breaks. Then a leash so he doesn't run aroundI will not post his x-rays for they are very scary.

Friday am we took Jack to his first checkup. They check the external fixation, no signs of infection and new bandage.

Jack will be on crate rest for 3-4 months, and lots of lap time.

I'm sure he'll be doing great in a few months.

For some reason, of all the dogs posted here, I really have a soft spot for Jackass.

So I parked my work van, I opened the door, and this guy just jumped in and said hi. Totally unexpected, but cool at the same time. This was yesterday, and he was very friendly!

I hear you about the soft spot! The litter with the sleepy ones are being dewormed. That's why they are so skinny.

Same thing happened to me with a cat , must have been a dozen of them but one sadly sat in the corner...
Had that cat for 23 years and what a character when she came out of her shell.
Choose wisely!

Quoted from pinwiztom:

My own damn fault
For leaving my wallet laying about where dog could reach it. Luckily no cash or credit cards were eaten or destroyed.
I did find a $5bill fluttering about.

####deja vu from 2 weeks ago####

dang dog
again my fault for not taking better measures to secure my valuables.
Even though I had my brand new wallet ( that I got from TEMU last week)
in a basket on top of a table.
Problem was the table was too close to the couch.
I left the room for only a few minutes and when i came back the dog was acting guilty hiding in the corner,
then i found a few dollar bills floating around,
oh oh where is my new wallet?
Found it with one corner newly chewed,
but fortunately not to the point of having to get rid of it, just enough to be a reminder to take better care.
The dog knew it was in trouble and could judge my frustration and me being upset,
she then proceeded to crawl under the couch, which she can barely get under anymore
because she is growing by the minute.
When she came out from under the sofa, she was scolded (bad dog bad puppy)
and I bapped her with the wallet.
she slinked off to her crate , ears folded down, to lay down, for well over due "time out".

She knows she did bad,
but I will forgive her and will still love her
and she will still love me,
but hopefully she will learn not to chew on my stuff, (that is what toys are for)
And I hopefully will learn not to leave stuff out within reach.
I do not want to crate her every time we leave the room.
Trying hard to puppy proof the house, but its hard to do and
still trying to slowly introduce her to our 8 cats,
without her charging them and chasing them around,
so the house is a series/maze of gates and doors.

To a puppy everything is a chew toy , no point in "bapping" her .
Show her the wallet and say no .
The last thing you want is for her to fear you .
If your wallet out lasts her , I'm sure you will cherish those chew marks .

We have already kissed and made up.
the "bap" was hardly anything
especially when compared to the play tussle and wrestling matches
we have each day.

I'm sure the bap was nothing but if she's crawling under the couch , like you said she already knows she's done something wrong .
I used to get annoyed when our two would chew the furniture , I just don't care anymore , they grow out of it .
Life's too short to worry about that type of stuff .

#6073 11 months ago

I pray to god that she grows out of it.
We had already conceded that the IKEA couch in the living room
where she spends 90% of her time is a sacrifice,
though we have back up replacement covers at the ready
for the cushions and pillows should she slow down with the chewing in a few months.
I pray that she stops growing, once she is too big to crawl under the sofa,
so as to not be too big to be able to reach stuff on tables or counter tops.
Her adult teeth are coming in, and the scars and wounds on my hands
have started to heal from her sharp baby teeth.
so there is hope.
cheers.

We lost our Molly a few years back. She was an old girl, and when she was just a puppy she chewed the bottom step of our deck in an effort to get some baby bunnies that were living underneath them.
At the time, the deck was new, the puppy was new, and I was very upset about the damage.
Molly lived a full life and was one of the best dogs there ever was, protective of my kids, very loving, and a really great friend.
Now We have two new dogs, and I have still gotten misty eyed looking at that step and wishing she were here to chew on it. I have learned that the little set backs and materialistic things pale in comparison to the love we receive from our furry family members.

Jackass loves the special attention he is getting. He will go into the crate at bedtime on his own. Deep down he want to run loose in the yard.

Jackass loves the special attention he is getting. He will go into the crate at bedtime on his own.

Reminded me of Buddy, the yellow lab I got when he was a 6-pound puppy, that grew up to be 120 pounds.

I crate trained him early, and bought the biggest crate I could find, my friends said he had his own castle.

Buddy was outside all day, my entire yard is fenced in, and a pretty big yard, but every night, he came in, and he would go straight to the crate.

Sometimes I wanted to hang out with him out of the crate, but he just really wanted to get in the crate, he always loved being in it.

One time there was a threat of very severe weather here, so I didn't lock the crate door, just in case.

Buddy accidentally opened the door, and he freaked out, and looked at me like will you please shut the door back, like it is supposed to be.

Buddy loved to chase squirrels, and one time he actually caught one, and he pranced around for an hour, before I could get him to release it.

The squirrel was fine, it stopped playing dead and ran off the minute he let go of it.

Anyway, what you said about he will go into the crate on his own at bedtime totally reminded me of Buddy, because after being out in the yard all day, when I let him in, he always ran straight into his crate.

His crate faced the tv, and Buddy really liked the Marley and Me movie. Who knows, may have been his cousin or something in the movie.

I find that the older I get, the smaller the dog I adopt becomes. This breed might be in my future!

Sammy is a Maltese, he was my 1st dog. Ollie, I’m not sure what breed he is. The wife n I guess that he’s maybe a cross of shih tzu/Maltese, or multipoo or..doesn’t really matter, as they’re both loved n spoiled immensely
