Don’t ever get a dog!

I let my two out first thing this morning to run in the backyard……one of them found a skunk! I got some on my hands while trying to clean him up quick before work. I can still smell it. My wife and daughter took the day off to deal with the dogs and house. Hopefully she got rid of the smell. She said that she got some cleaner spray from the vet for the dogs, and they suggested something else for the house

Quoted from mtn-:

Been a while since you posted any pics of Prada LTG, just saying.

Here she is waiting for me to take her out.

She'll be about 18 this summer. I'm afraid the down hill slide has started. They don't operate on dogs this old, she may not make it through surgery. So not much I can do about the growth on her chest.

This is the point I think where every dog owner wish they could make their dogs ten years younger.

Trying to figure out what breed our new pup most resembles.
We know she probably had German Shepard mix for a mom,
at least that is what the shelter had on her paperwork,
but who knows what the daddy was
maybe (and hoping), a smallish terrier type.
Online found out about a southern obscure breed called
Black Mouthed Cur.
Myka, looks a lot like them.
You compare.

Myka the guilty one
Lucky to be alive!

What is left of the power charging cord to my laptop
which was plugged in under/behind the couch.
Could have turned into a scene from Christmas Vacation
ala aunt Bethany's cat under the chair with Xmas lights.

I'll be glad when the pup is too big to crawl under the couch.

Holy F! How’d she/he NOT get lite up? Any oral contusions?

#5972 1 year ago
Quoted from Enchantress:

How’d she/he NOT get lite up

Fortunately the laptop charging unit was plugged into a GFCI outlet, though it was never tripped,
And fortunately the 2nd live wire and ground were never fully exposed. In most every room I have installed at least one GFCI outlet in that rooms circuit, since my home is100 yrs old, as most every outlet is not grounded (2prong).
Also not sure if laptop charging unit is live if the other end is not plugged into the laptop.

Our gal Pepper just turned 13 in March but over the weekend her health declined very quickly. We know it'll be time for her soon, but doing what we can to make her comfortable.

Just last Saturday she was acting like herself, but Sunday took a turn for the worst. We took her to the vet, and got an array of tests and bloodwork done, but no prognosis. Blood in her urine, yet no signs of infection, and bloodwork indicate normal kidney and liver function. Lower than normal platelet counts, but without further tests, cant really tell what it is.

Here she was on her birthday on March 1. This is what we sign up for when we bring these amazing creatures into our families, but no matter how many times it happens, it's always so difficult. Give your dogs the biggest hugs and the yummiest treats.

Sending positive thoughts your way...

#5989 1 year ago

Thanks for the thoughts a well wishes. We could use it a ton right now. Besides the dog, we're dealing with some family matters as well that will hopefully take care of itself through time. But man, it's hard right now.

Her pee looked less bloody today, but if it's from the prednisone, I'm sure it's just a bandage to a deeper underlying cause. I couldn't sleep at all last night and was worried she would pass in her sleep. She has an appointment to see the vet tomorrow to see if the prednisone helped with her platelet count. So I guess depending on the outcome tomorrow, will likely determine what the next course of action will be. We can only hope for the best.

Vet visit went as expected. The prednisone is doing its job. I guess it's up to us whether we want to continue to give it to her as a maintenance drug, and extend her days or stop giving it to her...ultimately it depends on how she behaves while being on it.

Vet wants to do blood tests every few days, but we're not going that route. Couldn't afford it in the long term and it really doesn't add value in the big picture. Sometimes I feel like vets are sales people, always trying to get you to spend money. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

The other half is telling our kids. They're going to be heartbroken.

Sorry guys. Don't mean to bring this thread down. It was a thread that I went to when I was having some personal trouble. These posts always made me smile.

Let's get back to our regularly scheduled program!

How's Pepper doing brother!?

Quoted from Enchantress:

How's Pepper doing brother!?

The prednisone is doing its job. She's been behaving more normally the past couple days, however, both the vet and I agree that there is an underlying problem and that it'll only last for so long. So we'll keep her on prednisone until she's starts to turn for the worse again. We're taking it day by day. Could be a few more days, could be weeks, who knows? But everyday will be her best day. At least we can hope. Thank you for asking.
