:/ Sorry for your loss Coindork
Good looking dog, Those eyes would melt anyone. The ones that hang tight with you are always so hard to deal with. sry for your loss.
Quoted from Coindork:It’s pretty rough right now.
I Feel for you man.
went thru pretty much the same thing last week.
It will eventually get better
but there will always be an empty hole in your heart.
Quoted from Coindork:Now that he’s gone, she (Kissy) is basically not eating. She walked around the house looking for him before she would touch her food. My wife had to hand feed her.
She keeps going and looking at the spot where he would always lay down and then she whimpers, which is really hard to watch.
Trying to spoil her the best I can right now with attention and snacks.
My heart goes out to you .
Spoil her rotten .
Anyone who thinks animals don't have feelings doesn't know shit .
Coindork sorry to hear about Hopper.
It get a little better w each passing day.
Went through this 3 weeks ago with Magnum. Similar to hopper he always new where I was in house.
My thoughts go out to you and your family.

My yellow lab was huge, but not fat. He weighed 120 pounds.
We finally got a new dog Bandit (Border Collie) after our previous dog Kipsy (Jack Russel) passed early last year.
He is a Blue Border Collie and while he looks like a dk grey / smokey black but his skin is blue where the dark fur is. So we went for the name Bandit as in Smokey and the Bandit.
10 weeks old

Hopper - I cannot think of a better name for a greyhound. They are such incredible and loving dogs, and no doubt, Hopper was the best example of the breed. My heart hurts for you and your wife, and especially Kissy. It was tough for my girl when we lost our husky - the amount of sadness seemed to overwhelm the house. But what a wonderful dog dad you are for being there when it counted the most - first for him and then for Kissy. May you find wonderful peace with his memory.
Quoted from Coindork:Thanks a guys.

Same thing happened with me last year when I had to put down one of my dogs I had for 5 years, too dangerous. Tried everything and even had to help put him down as the sedatives didn’t do enough. Very distressing for all. My other dog was sad (they were a couple) and not eating looking for him but she is now fine and loving life with all my attention. Still brings tears to my eyes, even though he was a bad mofo he was my favourite dog I’ve ever had.
Quoted from FatPanda:Is he a lab? Labs and water are like PB&J. Can't be mad about that!
No , he's a Maremma cross German shepherd , looks like a giant lab . The puddle was so muddy and we were close to the car , had to take the long way home for him to dry off

Definitely looks like a lab lol
I don’t have pictures but when we first got our Lab, we brought her to my brother in law’s house. He has a creek beside his house. We took her off the leash and the first thing she did was dive in!

This totally reminded me about Blackie. a mixed black lab that strayed into my dad's construction company yard when he was about a year old.
I did have some old Polaroid pictures that I just made a group of 4 and made a pic with my phone to post here.
He loved the water also; the one picture shows him at a lake my dad used to own, he would jump right in and swim way out. That picture shows the bank still muddy from him running out, and how far he swam out in no time.
I bought him a kiddie pool, and for whatever reason his favorite thing was to get in it and try to dig, splashing water all over himself in the process.
The other 2 pictures were him sitting in chairs. He thought he was someone. Because everyone else sat in chairs he always did also.
That dog was the smartest, and most easy to train dog I have ever been around. He thought he was a person most of the time.
He did not like any roughhousing though, he would bite the blood out of anyone that wanted to scuffle.
That dog was so smart that we had to spell around him. If the word lake was mentioned he would run out and jump in the bed of my truck with the tailgate still up.
For years I took him to work with me, and he would ride on backhoes and excavators all day long. Lunchtime was always funny, he would run around begging everyone for some of what they were eating.
He did some weird stuff also though, like beg me for a slice of pizza, and run out and bury it, and then 3 months later dig it back up and eat it.
Oh yeah, and a trip to the vet, everyone loved him, he would sit in a chair in the waiting room like he was a human, when they wanted to weigh him I would say Blackie, get on the scales, and he did. When they wanted to check him out on the tall table, I would say Blackie, get on that table, and he would.
BUT! When I seen they were about to stick that thing in his butt to check for worms or whatever, I would say HOLD ON!
I am about to leave the room now, and I highly recommend putting a muzzle on him.
They would be like oh, this sweet dog, he will be fine. And I would be like trust me on that one.
That dog was awesome in every way, except for a worm test. He would become a killer and bite and fight.

Just curious.
2-3 months seems to be the average time in our household.
We plan on always having two dogs.

I took about 3 months w/o, and started to go nuts until I got another for the latest dog. I ALWAYS had a dog or 2 in my life even when I was a child.
Was about 2-3 months for me ... although he's never forgotten, just gave a great home to a deserving dog...
From farm life to being spoiled rotten !
Too which #imnotnorm can confirm

Vox Machina theme confirmed???
I'm in!
It was about 3 months for us too. Her partner that she left behind was bumming and we felt it was the right time. We doubled down and got 2 puppies lol, and they definitely keep the old gal active.
We have a windchime that was gifted to us by her grandparents after she passed. Black like her. Every time the wind blows and it sings, we always say that she's playing with us in the backyard. We miss her.
Quoted from Madmax541:After putting a dog to sleep how long have you waited to get another dog?

It varies. We lasted just over 1-1/2 months the last two times. We lost our golden after a long illness, and adopted a 9-year old GS the following month. Within a week, we were faced with palative care for the next year until he passed. Then we waited 2 months after his death.
While we felt overwhelmed by the loss of three dogs (cancer & cancer, cancer & vestibular disease, degenerative myelopathy) over a short period (2.5 years), it was more depressing not to have a dog in the house. So, we adopted one and then a 2nd a year later.
The desire to have a house covered in dog fur is impossible to overcome.
Quoted from Madmax541:After putting a dog to sleep how long have you waited to get another dog?

I waited about 3 months with our last one.
I waited for 8 years. Then my ex (was already ex at the time) called me and gave me orders to decide on a name and told me to get my ass to Sweden and meet my little OTTO. That was 7.5 years ago. Damn time flies when your playing pinball.

Typed my dog breed in and not much different lol, evil looking enough!
Quoted from ImNotNorm:It's nearly impossible to do some watering with two black labs.

Years ago I had a Doberman that loved to eat the spray from the sprinkler. (one of those Oscillating Sprinklers)
I thought, on a hot summer day it would be a good idea to hook one up to the hose and leave it run in the fenced back yard with the dog having fun, while we went out to the restaurant. When we came home about 1 1/2 hours later the dog was still going crazy with it.....she made had a trench down to the dirt around it with all her running around wet grass...lesson learned.

Quoted from blastbeat:Family convinced me it was time for a dog. Last one we had to put down about 10 years ago or so. Our new girl Ruby has been amazing (and a pain in the ass in a funny way). My 3 kids spoil this one!
