Quoted from DUFUS:Dufus the mostly Norwegian Elkhound is now closer to 16 than 15 years old. An old grey lady. Still crazy after all these years.

Beautiful!
Quoted from Birdnest:One happy dog when he found out he was allowed in the boat

Boat, beer, dog...perfect!
This isn’t an easy post for me, but feel I need to share.
After struggling to eat for past week took Magnum my English Lab to the vet, and found he had a tumor the size of a basketball in his stomach. He had been to the vet 3 month prior for annual check up, healthy12 year old lab.
We had to put him to slept, family was there to say good bye. This one is tough, due to COVID we spent every day all day together for past 2 years.
Looking back on last month he just didn’t seem the same less active.
Great loyal friend will be missed.

Sorry for your loss. I am sure you enriched his life just as much as he did yours.

Very sorry for you loss but happy for you and him to have that much time together over the last two years.

Thank you for sharing, and I am so sorry for your loss. I can tell he had a wonderful life and was a very good boy. Our time with our dogs is never long enough, is it?
Appreciate all the kind words about Magnum.
A funny story about Magnum.
When we were looking to get a dog we planned on getting Magnum sister, this was prior to seeing the dogs, but when we saw both dogs the female went into a corner and wanted nothing to do with us. Scared I assume. Magnum was total opposite jumping around excited to see us. It was an easy choice, Magnum was for us.

You didn't choose him, he chose you
Happy BirthDay to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday Dear Dewey Dog
Happy BirthDay to you
and many more.
Today June 12th Dewey is 17 yrs old
Still hanging in there but slowed down quite a bit.
He only pooped inside the house once today,
he was trying to head to the door but did not quite make it
no pees inside the house today.
woohoo yay!!!
Still has a great appetite
he lives to eat, nap, pee & poo.
Every once in a while he will chase after one of our 9 cats
if they happen to whiz by him
as he is nearly totally blind with cataracts
probably deaf, or just does not want to listen to my calls.
We love you Dewey and hope and pray you can stay with us for a few more.
All the cats get along with him,
especially his older brother Jack the cat
and Leroy the long hair Siamese
adores him as he is constantly rubbing up against him.

That beautiful face. What a distinguished old man. Happy birthday, Dewey!
Quoted from illawarra92:happy 17th birthday to our girl bowie
was the runt and has outlived the entire litter by about 13 months[quoted image][quoted image]
What a beautiful girl!!
Quoted from Coindork:My boy is getting old.
He took a spill yesterday running for the door when UPS showed up. His days of chasing rabbits are numbered, but he has mastered the art of lounging. [quoted image]
As i have a retired hound or i should say a couch potato

Not yet....Matilda is still the alpha amongst the two. But the pecking order is being challenged by the younger brute.

Adorable looking dogs..my boys have harnesses, a lil easier on the dogs I reckon.

Yea it looks tight on Matilda...sometimes then don't adjust when the leash is slack. I'm constantly adjusting them on the walk. Still prefer then over the harness though.

Your dogs are a lot bigger then mine..

He’s looking for his next excavation site! “I know I buried a bone here somewhere.”

That is hilarious! I'm guessing they don't get along all that well.

Came back from the vet today.
We had to leave Dewey dog behind.
Can not say it was unexpected,
he having just turned 17yrs old last week.
I got to spend his last 12 yrs with him constantly by my side.
I will miss him greatly.
My wife is taking it very hard, as she has had him since he was a pup
and Dewey was there for her when my wife's 17yr old daughter
died tragically in a car accident 15yrs ago.
I am sure some of our cats will take it hard also.
Jack the cat (19yr old) was his best bud forever
and Leroy (long hair Siamese) loved that dog to the point of almost pestering him.
Dewey has been on the decline for a while,
but it is never easy to make the decision to let go.
He had cataracts in both eyes and likely totally deaf.
No longer able to climb stairs or jump on/off the couch and of late,
even having difficulty walking on our hardwood floors without losing his grip.
He still had a good appetite until a few days ago,
But his energy level recently took a dive and we saw that he had blood in his stool,
and he at times (in recent weeks) not able to make it outside in time to do his pee & poo business
so after a visit with the vet, and he explaining the likely causes of his situation
and that Dewey was unlikely to get better, we made the hard decision to say good bye.
