It depends on the game. I think getting beat down over time trying to get to s final wizard mode and then know you’ll NEVER get there, is worse.

True, but I'll bet Munsters starts to get flipped fast. There's a line between "discovery" and "shallow."
If you play alone a lot at home, points just aren't as much fun as discovery.
