When I wax my balls, they get a lot more play. It makes them fun to handle.

That's kind of a personal question isn't it?
Yes I do and it doesn't really effect play it's just better than finger prints that lead to rust.

When I wax, I just wipe the balls off with with wax off rag. Plenty enough.

Wax is made for finished surfaces. Pinballs are made of metal. You don't want to wax them, you want to polish them with metal polish. I use Blue Magic (available at any auto parts store) and a rag. It makes them look and play like new.

There's no reason to throw out your balls and install new ones every 6 months. Balls will last for years if you polish them occasionally.

After I tumble them I put a wax coat on them . Keeps them from rusting ! Wipe them off and your ready to go .

My dad accidentally caught my brother waxing his balls and told him that if he kept it up, he would go blind. My brother said, Dad I'm over here.

Yeah very hard to wax balls without also polishing wood.
I like to fully shop them. You know take everything out and get in all of those hard to reach places.

Do not forget new rubber. Always part of a shop job.

seriously though I just replace them whenever they have any defects at all.

You could also get a tumbler and a softer medium like walnut shells.
