Hi,

The transformer of my recently purchased AF makes a buzzing noise. I have a spare transformer from a Sys 11, does it fit i to the AF ? If not any solution to reduce the noise ?

thanks a lot

afaik , 2 different transformers

something is drawing a lot of power to make it buzz, need to figure out what's causing it.

It look old, isn t it internal to the transformer ? If not, what kind of device could draw that much power ? Were to meter ?

No I have a bally kiss game that buzzed like hell, started by pulling fuse to locate what was causing the power draw, ended up being the GI lights, switched to leds no more buzz. Are you using bulbs or led for lights?

also check for burnt connectors they would cause a larger amount of power to be drawn to.

led DMD, and part of bulbs are leds other normal, can try

just for my info, the pin is built to support all that original parts, what makes the transformer buzz with these original parts ? leaks ?

I'd start by popping out 1 fuse at a time to see if you can isolate what circuit is causing the draw.
or start by unplugging transformer plugs going to the back box, if there's still a buzzing, with nothing hooked up check transformer out put voltages to be sure there correct.

things get old, caps get weak, connecters get heat stressed (turning tarnished, burnt or black)

I ll have a look and keep you updated

If you're not blowing fuses then I doubt the game is drawing too much power. If it is electrically induced it is much likelier to be low line voltage or a ground loop. The most likely answer though is that transformers will hum as they age.

Find a local shop that rebuilds transformers (getting harder to find nowadays) and they can get rid of the hum. Basically they use shims to tighten everything up.

I found a workaround, I first removed all secondary connections and the hum was still there. Then I unscrewed the transformer and put rubber under it. The noise disappeared.
