So I've done a few threads on documenting the lives of 2 of my other games. Star trek and Medieval Madness Remake.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stern-star-trek-with-4938-plays-pics

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/documenting-the-entire-life-of-a-medieval-madness-remake

So this time I'm going to start from NIB. Here are the first 2 pics so far.

Many many updates to come.

Thanks again for another one of these threads!

#3 6 years ago

Love your threads! Love that gas station

#4 6 years ago

Already have the first problem. Almost everytime we flip the flipper it advanceds sparky. Probably something just not tightened at the factory. We will update when we find the cause.

#5 6 years ago

Pretty much new with only 83 plays. My business partner picked it up on Oakland from Pinball Pro. ( who is always very accommodating) I will continue to get all my NIB games from him!

He set it up and played a few games over the weekend so these are the first pictures I got.

$0.00 earnings. Looking forward to some serious documentation. I'll also include all cost of repairs in this thread as well.

I'm looking forward to 100,000 plays with this someday.

Nice dude, I love these threads!

Question tho, why Metallica over something newer?

#7 6 years ago

Metallica is ranked high among pro and new pinball players. Strictly a route and income decision. For seasoned players who know the rules there is a lot of truffles to do.

For new players. It's hit the middle get points.

#8 6 years ago

Great game, one an hr from me on route. .75/play, pumped $40 into it yesterday with my boys(who never heard of Metallica)

#9 6 years ago
Quoted from Phat_Jay:

Great thread, following. MET is a great choice...

#10 6 years ago

I've added this to my favorites list as well. Can't wait to see the progress.

#11 6 years ago

Try bending the ball guides that are between sparky. Sometimes the metal get in the way of the light beam and causes it to be flaky. That's what was wrong with mine.

Is this at Bonus Round? It doesn’t look like it and last I knew the BK2000 hadn’t been there in a long time.

Met will be at the Bonus Round soon! We are supposed to be fixed the BK2000 but we are super busy with our full time jobs we haven't had time to get it Goin!

#14 6 years ago

Great follows, thanks!

#15 6 years ago

Metallica is a great, fast paced game with an awesome art package. One suggestion based on my experience is that the extended air ball plastic that replaces the one by sparky is absolutely necessary. Had a lot of weird bounces marking up the playfield by the magnet until I added it.

#16 6 years ago

nice - love to hear how this goes. The idea of routing and how much you can actually make interests the hell out of me.

#17 6 years ago

Gotta make a trip back to the Bonus Round soon. Not many places around here to play good pins.

#18 6 years ago

Cool. This should be fun to follow. Thanks for another one of these threads. Met seems like a real good choice. I bet it gets a ton of plays.

#19 6 years ago

I love threads where route 'operators' are not actually local or regional scum bags with 1800+ machines, 20+ field 'techs' (spit, shine, hack job specialists) and really care about having their games either new, top notch used, or just fantastic titles.

#20 6 years ago

Starting to add some cliffy protectors! The rest will get finished tomorrow.

***shout out to CLIFFY*** who has always rushed parts to me and does a really wonderful thing for our pinball community!!!

Cost of the protectors are right around $50 for all

I've also added a bit of mylar around the sparky magnet. I've seen alot of chipped paint so I want to protect it. I always threw the carbon fiber ring around it on top of the mylar.

#21 6 years ago

Carbon fiber ring around the magnet is perfect. You may find that the ball beats up the Mylar over the magnet, and causes that part to come off. As long as the ring around the Manet remains, you're good.

#22 6 years ago

I cut the mylar off above the magnet so it is metal on metal. Then a mylar circle about 3" in diameter.

#23 6 years ago

The game is going on Route tomorrow!

- Mylar added where the ball drops from the shooter lane and in front of sparky.

- I changed out the rubbers with Titan bands in heavy action areas.

- Cliffys have all been added ( the shooter lane was a real bitch because i couldn't get the ball to launch correctly) it kept not making it all the way around.

- Bill acceptor added. First time trying anything other than MEI. I like the lights on this better.

A few complaints so far..... Stern must sell there new games with used balls ( see pic) no biggie but still wouldn't be good for someone who doesn't know better.

And second the snake doesn't kick out right and the sparky optos weren't aligned right. Easy fixes but if I bought it for home use only then I wouldn't want to spend that much time fixing stuff.

There's also a few shots of the playfield for all you people that freak out at dimples. You can see them starting already!!!!

#25 6 years ago

This will be fun to follow. Thanks for the update.

I hope you don't come to regret using Pyramid vs Mars, I have a few Pyramid acceptors left on my games, but now I buy Mars exclusively. Pyramids just don't hold up as well as the Mars, at least for me anyway. Pyramid is certainly a cheaper alternative, that is for sure.

#27 6 years ago

That ball is terrible.

#28 6 years ago

I always replace the balls on Sterns...they suck. I'll have to come to SF soon to check it out.

#29 6 years ago

Added some mylar at the outhole since that's a typical place for clear coat to break. ( I trimmed it down after the picture)

Put some new balls in and changed out the lock and we are on the way to drop it on Route right now!

I like the way you did the orange and yellow posts. The rubbers on the post to the left of sparky takes a beating. I’ve replaced it twice and all the other rubber is like new. Do you have part numbers for them?

#31 6 years ago

I just cut a post rubber in half and put the normals ones on top.

#32 6 years ago

I just completely changed the post and uses cliffy sleeves.

What is the build date on your machine?

I'm excited to see how this game holds up. If you were anywhere near me I'd be helping fill the coin box.

I'm not sure. I'll get the date of the playfield next time I'm up there.

great game.

550 plays already, that was fast!

#40 6 years ago

Nice of you to have the game set for 50 cents per play.

Thanks for the update and pics.

my GOT drain hole get chipped pretty bad. then I found out cliffy makes drain protectors for B/W and Sterns!! For newer sterns they are a must. that and the shooter lane since it is usually the first thing to go.

#43 6 years ago

so are you happy with those numbers?

#44 6 years ago

Not bad. I'm thinking I need to just set it to .75 per game flat. A good number of plays but I'd always like more money!

#45 6 years ago

Ever consider a sparky protector. Should help protect that magnet pinbits has them and i make them in small batches every now and again. If you are interested i could send ya one. Ive had the same one on my machine for years. But not sure how it would hold up in a route env.

#46 6 years ago

Yes, Sparky air ball deflector is a must (I'd get clear), and get the drain protector from cliffy. Both cheap and adds protection where some of the most damage occurs.

#47 6 years ago

1 month and 1689 plays. Not too shabby. $855 for the first month. Not too shabby either.

The bar owner said a few of the rubbers on the sleeves fell off a few times and he had to put them back on.

The only other thing was one of the spot light leds fell out. Other than that it had a wonderful first month with many more to come.

Lots of Dimples! It'll smooth out!

How often will you wax/clean the playfield?

Monthly at the very least. Often every 2 weeks or 500 plays
