Water-based clears. Also it's a lot thicker.
Quoted from Who-Dey:Patience Grasshopper
Ha. That's funny. I'm gonna go out on a limb and agree with Pez... my HUO MMR will likely never see 10,000 plays in my lifetime or even my 18 y/o son's lifetime (who plays it more than me anyway), so patience would be asking my great grandchildren to report back to pinside after it's handed down from generation to generation. But I still think there's zero chance it will ever even out.
Quoted from jwilson:Water-based clears. Also it's a lot thicker.
Clearly (pun intended) it's not in the clear coat. You can see that the inserts (which have the same clear on top of them) show ZERO dimples. Smooth as glass. My guess is that the plywood used for the playfield is just too darn soft. The cheapest wood available is used to make much of the plywood these days.
10,000 play mark! Nothing wrong this time except the right flipper coil tab broke off and had to be resoldered. The bar owner was kind enough to fix it for us so we didn't even know.
A quick wax and a few test plays and it's good to go.
10,838 plays. Nothing too bad this month.
The right troll fell apart so we needed to put it back together. There was nothing broken it had just rattled apart.
The playfield is holding up great except the outhole and the shooter lane.
I must have lost the shooter lane cliffy for the right side and the clear coat is chipping bad. I'll order one and install it next month so no further damage happens.
Nothing broken at all. Quite a few more plays at 11,493 so far. Pulled in $8,000 so far and we have kept half.
Very satisfied with the remake right now!
I noticed chipping on the shooter lane, moat, etc., on my MMR after a few hundred plays. However, there was chipping around the lock hole and drain on my AFRM in less than 100 plays! Almost though the issue is getting worse before it gets better.
I'm chomping at the bit for a MB remake, however, the more chipping I see on my game, and on games I see you guys sharing photos of, I start thinking maybe it's best to hold off and look for a nice example of an original. Maybe even one day turn in my MMR for a MM.

We do not like chipping either. A full set of Cliffy's goes a long way to stopping most of the chipping. Good luck!

Put some cliffs and maybe some Mylar and enjoy your game.
Quoted from pintechev:Put some cliffs and maybe some Mylar and enjoy your game.
All Cliffy's (except the catapult) are in. But not before the moat, castle hole, shooter lane, and drain started chipping.
I'm closely watching this thread to see how it holds up with more plays. Definitely interesting!
12,348 plays now. Almost 1,000 this month for star trek, attack from Mars and Medieval Madness!
Finally had some break. The bottom pop bumper had a switch error and both yokes were totally broken. We always carry spare parts so it was a quick and easy fix! Other than that no issues!
We just added Theatre of magic to our line up. I feel like we have a solid selection now!

Demo man looks like a red-headed step-child in that lineup!

The demolition man and old Chicago are the bar owners. When we get sttng finished it will push one of those out of there too

Haha, I knew there had to be a reason. It was a Sesame Street-level exercise in what doesn't belong...
Quoted from Okarcades:When we get sttng finished it will push one of those out of there too
IS the VUK Dress Kit going on that machine?
We’re up to about 30,000 on one. Has held up quite well honestly. Two troll carriages replaced, flipper stuff, one transistor I think failed, and some other minor things but not bad at all. Playfield still looks great and plastics and ramps. Have an AFMr that’s approaching 10,000 and has been rock solid too. Hats off to PPS and Chicago Gaming for producing some good quality games that can hold up on location as well as home use.
Hey Okarcades, what level do you have all your coil settings? I find the game more exciting with max coil values on flippers and slingshots but it feels like it's going to break stuff.
Quoted from Okarcades:The demolition man and old Chicago are the bar owners. When we get sttng finished it will push one of those out of there too
I think you will find that STTNG is going to need more love on an ongoing basis than those route friendly games you own there now.

We always set our coils to minimum power so there is less damage to the game and less maintenance as well. That means more game time for the public
Quoted from BrianBannon:I think you will find that STTNG is going to need more love on an ongoing basis than those route friendly games you own there now.
We always shop our games to the fullest and try to find weak points in the games. When we do we take care of them ahead of time so we won't have to deal with problems down the road on location. All pinballs break. Preventative maintenance is key for successful routing.
Quoted from Okarcades:Just swung through town. Right troll is broken. I'll have to order parts. They are spendy!
How many plays now?
Thanks again for keeping us updated
Probably only 100 more than last week I didn't check. I actually played this weekend instead if just fixed them

Nice! Did you put on the full set of Cliffys? I know you were getting some chipping (as are most of us) and just wanted to know if it was getting worse.
Such a good game though! Glad to hear it's doing well on location.
This week is BAD!!!!
The game is totally out of commission and unplayable now. We fixed the right troll but the gate on the castle is totally ruined. We need to take it home a d weld it up because it fell apart completely......
Having a game down for a week not only looks bad but also hurts the income big time!
After we disassembled the gate assembly we noticed the plastic moat was cracked in 3 spots!
Pretty disappointed this week but the game has pulled in over $9,000 so I guess it's time for something to break. A new assembly is $250.
Updates will come after we fix it.
Ps we also noticed the castle plastic is starting to wear.

You should probably get a sturdier gate!
Quoted from FlippyD:https://mantispinball.com/product/medieval-madness-castle-gate-upgrade/

I think we are just going to weld and modify our own and make it super extra sturdy.
Taking in over $9000 for a game that cost approximately $8350 with shipping isn't too bad. I take you split those earnings with the establishment? If yes, you are just over halfway to earning back the original cost.
Quoted from loren3233:Taking in over $9000 for a game that cost approximately $8350 with shipping isn't too bad. I take you split those earnings with the establishment? If yes, you are just over halfway to earning back the original cost.
Yep we keep half the money. Not too bad all. I'm very happy with the earnings but I wish they would have reenforced the gate especially since it is a known issue.
Quoted from Okarcades:After we disassembled the gate assembly we noticed the plastic moat was cracked in 3 spots!
Clean and then mylar the moat plastic over the crack on both sides. That'll work for thousands of plays more. No one sees it, so replacing the moat on route is a waste of money.

Had the exact same thing happen to.my game last week with roughly 2300 games on it
Quoted from Damien:Had the exact same thing happen to.my game last week with roughly 2300 games on it
I feel pretty lucky then!
What is the right side shooter lane cliffy? Are there 2 in the shooter lane, one on the ball eject side and one on the other side of the shooter lane?
Quoted from KozMckPinball:What is the right side shooter lane cliffy? Are there 2 in the shooter lane, one on the ball eject side and one on the other side of the shooter lane?
Yes, but many people just put on the left one and call it good (I put on both).
This is an interested thread. I don't know a pinball machine can make such amount of money! (It means if I bought a machine, we need to play over 10,000 times!?)
Quoted from Pinbear:This is an interested thread. I don't know a pinball machine can make such amount of money! (It means if I bought a machine, we need to play over 10,000 times!?)
Remember that even with tons of plays the machine will still have value! We split the money with the location too.
I have a star trek that has brought in $13k so after the split it has profited around $1500. After parts down to like $1000. Th machine would easily sell for $3,500. Just depends on the condition.
It's been great following this thread. I've had a MMR on site for 9.5 months now which has been my first machine out in the wild. There have been other machines located with it, but they aren't mine. It's not a highly trafficked pub, and the pins are located upstairs and not many of the regular punters head up there. A lot of pinheads played it early as it would have been the first Medieval on site here for a while. We also hold monthly comps up there (which to this point haven't been coin drop). So far it's up to 1,500 plays and has made around A$2,300 - we're A$2 a game here - which is about $US1.50. So miles below your game, but on the positive, it's hardly showing any wear (a bit of playfield dimpling) and hasn't needed much maintenance other than a good wipe down now and then (a troll fell down but just had to be screwed back, was the main one).
Hahahaha. DBZ reference for the win. Back in the day when they would use those stupid power reader, eyeball, googleglass, type things!
Great thread! Thanks Okarcades!
13,899 games and nothing wrong with it at all since the last visit. Just needed a waxing an a few bulb sockets tightened. All good to go now!
Totally happy!
Quoted from paynemic:Incredible. Looks great. Any playfield wear?
Shooter lane has a chunk of cracked clear on the right.
I'm really surprised that the castle lock shot wood isn't peened over. I would have figured it would take lots of direct ball hits. Nice job on keeping it maintained. The only machines around here are falling apart and I feel ripped off putting money into them.
In case I haven't expressed this b4, I really enjoy and appreciate this thread, and your similar Star Trek thread.
No other operators are sharing this type of thing and it's great to see how well the Sterns and remakes are holding up.
P.s. I'm jealous of your location! Your pins get at massive amount of play, with earnings like the old days. My location pins get maybe 1/3 that amount of action.
