Some of you may have been following my other thread about documenting the life of my Stern Star Trek pro but I didn't start that until about 4,000 plays.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stern-star-trek-with-4938-plays-pics

The Mmr I'm starting a bit earlier.

I picked the game up as a expo demo for a pretty sweet deal from Pinball Pro out of Nebraska. The first picture I got of the game started with a little over 500 so not not right out of the box new but close.

I'll be documenting the entire life of this game as long as I own it which will probably be forever. All the good, all the bad, everything in between and everything that breaks and at how many plays.

Here's the earliest pics I have. I hope you enjoy!

So far I've...

1. Changed GI to cool white
2. Added green flipper rubbers
3. Added an led strip in the moat to light the green up more.
4. Had to fix a broken solder on the middle switch on the right bank
5. 1 screw fell out of the right troll which has been fixed
6. Added mylar to the out hole. The shooter lane. And under both spots where the ramp feeds to the in lane.

Tonight we added a color changing light inside the castle and its super awesome! Non destructive cheap mod that only took about 20 minutes. Just added a socket and put an existing screw through It and soldered a wire into the GI

Super neat mod. Does it stay on all the time or only come on periodically?

#6 7 years ago

It's on all the time the GI is on but when the drawbridge is up you can't see it at all.

Medieval madness took the place of Addams family today. 617 plays so far

Is this at the same location as the Star Trek was at?

Yes! It got 57 plays on the first day at $1 per play!

#10 7 years ago

500 plays in the first week. I'd say it does well on location!

I'd say your giving operators hope! You are at a proper location though obviously..but hope

#12 7 years ago

$728 in 2 weeks. That's pretty good. I forgot to get pics of the playfield because I was moving games. Next update I'll take more pics. MMr is the best game for location for me so far.

Also forgot to mention that no repairs have been needed so far. Very happy with this game on location. Really wish I could find an Attack From Mars.

Whoa! 4,178 plays now! I installed some cliffys because the game is taking a pounding.

Some clear coat is chipping off on the edge of the playfield in the moat. Not a huge deal Because it won't effect the game play.

We have made a pretty good chunk of change in the first 2 months since we bought it so we are very happy.

Over all happy with the game still so far. No errors as of yet.

Thanks! I want everyone to be able to play a perfectly playing medieval madness. Every one I ever played on route was in really bad shape. It made the game lose its magic.

#18 7 years ago

May i ask on your new games, like this one, do you run $1 a play or do you give the bonus game and do $1 or $2 for 3

Congrats on the earnings! Looks like it could use some wax and new rubber though..

#20 7 years ago

Game needs new rubber after 4178 plays? That is a joke right ?

#21 7 years ago

Pretty sweet to see how this is holding up long term in an operator environment, thanks for the thread, pics & info.

#22 7 years ago

I'm not even sure why the flipper rubbers were replaced...did one break?

Never mind ...

2. Added green flipper rubbers

Wow. That's about 60 plays per day. Outstanding. If you don't mind my asking, what type of location is this that it gets so much traffic?

My pins average maybe 10 plays per day and they are top notch pins.

#24 7 years ago
Quoted from Dr-Willy:

Game is set to $1 per play no bonus or price drop until the earnings start to taper off or decline.

Quoted from TKDalumni:

Congrats on the earnings! Looks like it could use some wax and new rubber though..

I wax all of my games once a month but it's hard to clean the pop bumper area with the ramps in the way. I'll figure out a tool for next month. I don't need new rubbers anywhere that I could see.

Quoted from Pin_Guy:

Never mind ...

The only reason I changed the flipper rubbers is because the cheap black originals always ruin the white flippers and they look terrible. Titans don't leave a nasty residue and the last much longer.

This game is setup in a super legit barcade in Sioux Falls South Dakota, this game is easy the best game in the entire building so people naturally play it first and its usually full all night every night. It was a great idea to spend $8,000 because it overtook all other games in the building as far as earnings.

#26 7 years ago

Inspiring. Even if you pulled the game right now, you will basically have gotten a MMr for half the price! Can I ask: do you split profits 50/50 w the bar owners?

10
#28 7 years ago

I split the profits 50/50. I would say 10% of those plays were free plays because of replays. Another 10% were myself and the bar owner haha. And I bought the game with 400 plays from the previous owner who had it at a few expos. Here is what we have pulled in so far and we only get 1/2. Not bad for 2 months!

That clearcoat chipping is pretty shocking.

Never seen clear chip like that on any WPC game, ever, over 20 years. Wear to the primer, yeah, but big chunks of it coming off?

Why is nobody disturbed by that?

When we introduce a new game at our location I would expect it to take earnings from the other machines due to regulars wanting to try the new thing. More exciting and more of an unknown is whether renewing the line-up increases the -total- earnings or not.

It's not a big deal.

PPS will send a custom diffuser which will cover that right up and prevent future wear.

And you get to deduct the machine on your (or your buisiness) return. A very nice plus!

I have clear coat chipping on my machine MMr with less than 100 plays, a piece of the clear coat about the size of a dime was was 'floating" so I broke it off; I'm slightly disturbed by it but it's not bad enough for any real concern. It came from the castle left entrance where the ball lands; I expected this to be a high wear area from the beginning and covered it with the appropriate protector for this area from http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/HG-16

I wish I installed it on day one; it would probably still would have chipped from the impacts, I just wouldn't have seen it. Realistically, this area probably should have been metal covered on both the original and MMr since the plywood is milled out in this area to make the shot doable.

Happened to my GOT in the same areas. I put Mylar over it and it stopped. That's when I stopped being bothered by it.

Was it ever determined if Stern's playfield clearcoat problems were not from Churchill? Some said otherwise but Churchill is CGC.

Quoted from o-din:

I got lost in all that. Heard they were churchhills fault, then heard they were that new company's fault, then I stopped caring. Haha.

#39 7 years ago

As long as it earns I'm fine with it. I'm not going to call and bitch about the clear coat and strip the whole thing and replace it. It does suck and I won't be buying their next remake because of that.

Also They wouldn't tell anyone what game it was so I bought an original AFM. I don't like the clear coat but I also know this game is going to take a beating. When the playfield gets worn out I'll replace it. It will have easily paid for it self by then.

Yes that one. When they didn't announce it at the last expo I decided it wasn't worth the wait and I'm glad because I got an attack from Mars for an absolute steal!

No doubt about that! I found one of these on location at Pincrossing and it seemed to play very well. Not sure how many plays theirs has, but it looked decent and I had no issues.

You have the right attitude. Let it earn but DON'T buy anything else from them. My MM that I bought 20 years ago still looks new... nothing remotely like your pics and it probably has had a comparable amount plays by now.

That's some shocking wear indeed. Along with the faded PF's and this CC just chipping right off...maybe Churchill has been the problem all along. Maybe they lost everybody that actually knew what they were doing back in the day.

Very cool thread about the life of a pin on location, its natural habitat

#45 7 years ago

Are these pf's made by Mirco? I can't remember. May reconsider buying a new Mirco WH20 when they come back in stock.

I would be concerned too. I don't think they looked like that after a 1000 plays back in the mid 90's.

I'm sure games from the 90s that had major issues haven't survived until today. Hard to say really.

But to me it seems the company that made these playfields is the same that makes sterns as the issues are the same. Chipping in the outholes/troughs and shooter lanes.

#47 7 years ago

I wonder if it is too many layers of clear? I remember hearing from Clay on his TOP videos that you only want 2 coats or you will have issues at outholes, posts, etc. Seems everyone wants a lot of clear for the gloss factor, but wonder if this could be the issue.

#48 7 years ago

I'm not sure about clear coat but I am sure I'm not super happy about it. It's too late now and the game is doing what it was designed to do. Make operators money! I'll continue to post pics of how this machine does forever because I don't play on selling this.

#49 7 years ago

I really like your candid honesty! Also great job with documentation and picture examples. Great info and great route location. Best of luck with your future business!

I'd guess something about switching to water base. But that could have been years ago. So there goes my theory.
