Finally joined the club this week. Playfield is in Great condition. Started swapping in some LED's already to brighten it up. I will be doing a full topside tear down real soon, anything 8 should look to replace while I have it apart?

Quoted from pinballinreno:

No steel support. It can be added later if need be.
Reese rails next month when they get back to work.
Reverse bending, a little heat with a hair dryer only, NOT HOT!
Just about 130 degrees F over a large area of the center, Kinda diagonally where it looked tight?
For about 90 mins.
Followed with dry Terry cloth towels out of the 6 degree freezer.
Shim still in via @eyeanred2u recommendation, thanks! Your experience paid off.
Twist is drastically reduced.
I hope it stays.
Right now it looks a close as they come from the factory.

Looks great I'm taking notes on your restore as I plan on doing a similar restore to ours a little down the road but I'm liking the choices you have made with the powder coat, the new translite and side blades. Keep up the great work and updates.

Does anyone have the file for this set of Apron cards? Here's the link to the Orginal thread but the matching card to the first pic isn't there.

Quoted from pinballinreno:

Assembled speaker panel.
Upgraded 5" speakers, LED style colorDMD. Repainted the panel and speaker grills.
Sanded out all the dog teeth marks, deep gouges and most of the scratches.
The inside of the lens had deep scratches in it.
I had to sand out to 3000 grit then buff to get it to polish.
Buffed inside and out to a mirror finish.
It's not perfect, but will have to do as there are no replacements.
It came with cool white flat top LED's.
I replaced them with 2SMD frosted sunlight.
I added strips of foam around the display for light blocking.
Probably doesnt need it. But I had a roll on my bench from my lockdown bar, begging to be used for something lol.
It seemed to look better to me.

Where did you get the 555 strip for the Doctors? Mine is a all in one piece but it's pretty dim now.

#2728 4 years ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

The strip is just the standard regular unhacked one.
It comes from the factory populated with screw in 555 sockets.
If you look at yours it might be redone with soldered leds?
If you have colorDMD LCD version, people hack the light strip to make it fit.
You don't have to do that with the LED version of the colorDMD.
Show us a picture?

Interesting, I didn't look at it very much I was putting LED's in the backbox looked at the strip and thought the sockets would be on the other side. When I unscrewed it and flipped it over there were flat LED's there, there could have been something moded in each socket but it would have to be small flat pcb like LED's. I'll get a pic and look at it again when I get back in town.

Here's some pics, it was probably hacked for a LCD.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Sure, the whomobile. But that was used only in 1 season, and is a (nice) upgrade to the game - there are so many other potential mods to be had. I made a K-9 one that said “affirmative” every few times you made the loop shot, and a sonic screwdriver mod which sat in the shooter lane and flashes along with the game ... but there’s got to be other options!

My game came with this K-9. I was thinking about installing it near the shooter lane. I want try and tie the built in light to something also

Quoted from pinballinreno:

Yes, modified to make it thinner for the colorDMD LCD version.
Since it looks like the color display has been removed, you could unsolder the LED's, clean up the board and re-install the screw sockets.
Or replace the existing LEDS with new ones? The newer SMD ones are brighter.
You might want to get colorDMD again...
Either way the board is not ruined in any way and can easily be adjusted.

Can you post a pic of the mounts on the sides holding the board. I'd like to have the correct standoffs if you want to fix it and go color LED

So I was looking at my Tardis I thought it came with just some light mod on top but it looks very different from one's I see in pics.
This one is not screwed down just sits there and they cut a notch for a light socket that feeds the top light.
Is this a common mod?

So I figured out why my Dr Who has a hacked up Dr Light board. It was the actual game that was used by Mark J who did the coloring for ColorDmd. He had to make that to make the display fit of course. He was at my place a few weeks ago and was instantly like hey that was my pin.
Pretty cool I guess. Still need to buy one of the new flat boards that are made now though and of course a color dmd that should be coming soon hopefully.

I've had the Smooth Lifter kit for a few years now and I'm finally going to install it. Had one of the lock ball poppers burn up so just going to go ahead and pull the whole thing and get this kit installed. I grabbed their adjustable motor board also. Installing a new Mini Playfield motor. I hope this isn't to much of a pain.

Quoted from Tophervette:

BertoDRINK1 - You got this. You may have to enlarge drilled holes, but that is not critical. The templates will get you close. Don't skip the blue locktite on the cam Allen screws. Don't pinch 5 Opto board wires.
Install lifter kit first with old motor board and cycle the MPF a few times using the coin door button tests. Make sure to put a piece of card board in the glass safety switch to close it with glass off.
The motor board was a challenge for me to get dialed in right. But once you figure it out, it is worth effort. I have had the MPF come down from level 3 to 2, but had hit a ball in multi ball frenzy. It gets jammed between the PF and the Dalek tunnel door. This burns up the motor or strips the brass gears. I did that with original board. But the new board reverses direction when that happens. Avoid the temptation to have the MPF speed too fast.
Tell us how it works out for you.

Thanks for the pointers. Doesn't seem to bad after going though the instructions. I'm doing a full shop job along with the install. Working on it in the evenings hopefully I can have it all done in a week or so.
