Restoring my second one now. The first one was a salvage machine that was ready for the junk pile that I brought back to life. Shortly after finishing I found a better one that needed restoring. Almost finished and loving it.

Tom Baker was my favorite, since he was who I grew up with.

Sweet. That kid rocks!

Quoted from TaylorVA:

Too cold to do cabinet work so stopped working on the playfield. Ugh. I have been playing a lot more pinball to procrastinate on the restore. Best hobby in the world.

I just finished my cabinet this week. Carpe diem my friend! Seize the day!

I don't know if they are available. I think I picked that up at the Chicago show a couple years back.

Cool. Is that really him?

Quoted from action76:

That's Matt Smith himself. He was at the Comic Con in New Orleans this past weekend.

VERY COOL! There aren't many actors I would love to meet but he is definitely one of them! On a side note; Dude, you must be a giant. He looks like a midget next to you.

My Doctor Who is missing this assembly. Anyone know where I can get one?

What assembly?

Quoted from Jd-8ball:

I have an 8-ball Deluxe i would like to restore. Where do I start? Is this something you do as a business?

Depends on how define restore. I don't do it as a business. Just a hobby. Some machines I've taken every nut and bolt off, stripped the cabinet and repainted / decaled. One of my DWs I painted the cabinet over the decals as needed. The other I stripped and sanded the cabinet and redecaled.

There are serveral guys on here that do restorations, including high end depending on how much money you want to spend.

Sorry, don't have a good pic on my phone but you guys got me thinking about my art. I had to trim the edges when installing. I wonder if they had the scale wrong when they made yours?

Quoted from pinballinreno:

Are you talking about side blades or cabinet side art?.

Side art. Its been several years since I redid my cabinet.

#2622 4 years ago

Found this old pic of when I just finished the cabinet. Went with black powder coat. Think blue might look better in hind sight.

Good luck with the sale. Beautiful game.

Good job Tophervette. I didn't lay my machine down to install side art. Just take your time and be careful.

Had my best game ever on DW last night. 2.4 billion. I haven't had a good game on there in forever. It's got me wanting to skip work and play pinball!

I think this is it. Send me a PM with your info and I'll send it to you. Are you missing anything else? I've got a few odds and ends sitting around.

Still looking for an old used set of original Dr Who opto boards in any condition. Anyone upgrading please don't pitch your old set. I could use them.

I'll take a look this weekend. Seems like I have a set.

Welcome David. I can't really help you in the UK but you came to the right place. Might want to learn to do some of the repairs yourself.

No idea what suggestion Somone was making on the mini playfield. Never heard of magnets vs springs.

I strongly recommend changing the battery in the head if it hasn't been done... Acid damage can be a real pain ...

I had the DW with the color display, new side art, wobble head, etc. There were 3 others on the floor. 2 of them were unrestored for $4500. The 3rd I don't think had a price on it. No idea if any sold.

Had mine at $6k but didn't really want to sell it. Had trade offers.

Quoted from Elvira:

I'm restoring a DW. I saw yours at TPF. It looks great! Where did you get your new cabinet art? Did you mod the topper yourself?

Thanks. I think the side art came from Australia... Not sure. Been several years ago. Yes, I did the topper mod. New ramps, etc.

#5920 1 year ago

Just a fun pic of Silvester McCoy and I playing at TPF a few years ago. Funny guy.

For your guys with the wobble head kit... I finally got around to setting my machine up after the Texas show and noticed a yellow wire off the J208 connector but cannot identify which pin it belongs to. Could anyone take a look at their and see which pin it goes to? I believe it's the only wire to J208.

Thanks in advance.

I'm stumped. I took my DW to TPF last year. Just getting around to getting it back up and running. When I boot it up the mini play field keeps running. It looks like it's seeing the switches. Any ideas?

I unplugged the wobbly head wires from J206 and J208. Now that I'm thinking about it.. it seems like those connectors got stressed in the move.

Thanks Reno. I'll check all of that, but now I've lost my color dmd... Running down a bunny hole... Grrr

#6262 6 months ago

Ok, problem solved by reversing the ribbon cable and reseating chips. Now back to original problem.

I see the switch 32 activate (mini playfield home) and turn off as it cycles. Is there another one you think I should look for?

#6264 6 months ago

Dang it. I hate it when I spend a lot of time trouble shooting and turns into something stupid. My neighbor from Top Score Gamerooms was over and I told him what it was doing. He said, did you put the balls in it?.... Awkward silence.... DOH! it was in ball search.

Thanks Reno for trying to help me.

#6267 6 months ago

Seems like there was some on here a while back that started their pinball adventure with just a mini playfield to rebuild, without a game. Maybe search for them. If you can't find one I have several parts of one but not most of the important stuff.

The spacer looks like the right size for the plastic on top the side ramp for the cover. Mine are black but it could be that.
