I need to fix a switch on one of the mushroom targets and need to remove the upper playfield. Does anyone have any pointers for the easiest way to remove the the entire time expander so I can access that switch?
Thanks guys. the bottom is made of 3/4 inch maple plywood and clearcoated. I made the rear of the backbox 3/4 inch as well. All trims are made of solid maple. I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who and figure that this machine deserves it.
Can someone who has installed a ColorDMD tell me how to modify the lamp board for the different doctors' faces in the speaker panel? I cant find it in the support section of the ColorDMD website.
Quoted from pinball_faz:This? Or do you have other questions?

Thanks Faz, shame there isn't an easier solution. I dislike doing permanent irreversible modifications to a game. Too bad someone doesn't make these light boards ready made and we can just keep the originals safe.
Quoted from Lame33:I don't know if your Color DMD hardware is the same as it was three years ago when I did it, but you might be able to just mount it higher and leave the board as it.

That looks like a simpler option, I will try it out.
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:Just know if you do that, the translate becomes difficult to install; takes a lot of wiggling
darn, guess it was too good to be true. I will still try it out
Here is my solution to the color DMD lamp board mod. I like it because its a relatively simple no solder solution and is completely reversible. You need to purchase 7- 3smd light strips $2.95 each at Comet and a few inches of double sided tape.
Cut about 1/4" off the ends of each light strip and attach to the color dmd display spaced to where the doctors are.

Attach the lamp board to the back of the color DMD display using double sided tape making sure to mask out the pins with electric tape or double sided tape to avoid shorting. Run a strip of electric tape along the bottom of the display to prevent the metal from cutting the wires over time (not shown yet).

Attach the socket connectors that come with each strip to the lamp board, put everything back and enjoy.
