Doctor Who Bally, 1992

A couple of weeks ago a ball got stuck between the playfield and the mini playfield just when it was dropping. I pulled out the ball, but since then the MPF does not rise more than an inch, then get's stuck. I removed the MPF and found out that the last gear in the gearbox has a slipping axle. There is a ring that is welded to the gear and that ring is still attached to the axle, but the weld between gear and ring is broken, so the gear slips.

Can this be fixed or am I doomed for an expensive new motor+gearbox?

It's fixable, but it's not easy. I gave up trying to do it myself, and ended up buying the motor and gearbox. They're like 90$ stateside...not sure what it would cost to get it over there..

I had the same problem with slipping gears when the playfield was lowering, causing an audible "Ka-THUNK". After reading the above thread, I went the way of JB Kwik-Weld and it solved the problem.
