Guess I'll finally post here. I became a citizen about 4 months ago and have been playing my SST ever since. It's my first pin and I have to say, it's awesome! Definitely not a HUO but in pretty decent shape. I have already fixed a few things and gone full LED. The only real "mod" I've done is swap out the fluorescent tube light in the backbox with an LED tube light (removed ballast and starter too). If anyone wants to do so it's pretty easy, just ask and I can show you what I did.

Glad to be a part of the club!

I've been trying to beat the high score on my machine since I got it (almost a year ago) and I finally did! The score to beat was 216,000,000 and last night I got 242,000,000. Woohoo!

I switched strategies. Instead of going for orbit multiballs, I decided to try and stack bonus holds and just kill lots of bugs and increase my multiplier via the rollover targets. That was it. My third end of ball bonus was over 100,000,000!!!

Anyone else use this strategy?

Something interesting just recently started happening. When the ball is first ejected into the launcher lane from the ball trough, sometimes it is ejected with so much force that it bounces off the right side of the launcher lane right back into the ball trough. The game sits there for a minute and then realizes what happened and attempts to eject it again.

This happens approximately one out of five times. It doesn't make the game unplayable but it can get really annoying. Anyone have any tips on how to fix this? Can I take less power out of the ejector, or put some sort of deflector in somehow so it can't ricochet right back into the ball trough?

Thanks all!

Quoted from Rensh:

Did you try to put the coil power on Soft?
Pls do note that This influences all coils

I had no idea this was possible. Is that a setting in the menu?

#519 1 year ago

Perfect! Set it on the lowest of the three settings and now it doesn't eject as hard and never goes back into the ball trough. Thanks for the helpful tip, rensh !

My newest add to SST. I have been toying with doing this for awhile. Friend of mine convinced me I should do it and sell it. The mod not the pin that is. The wife would kill me if I sold it. This mod has interactive blue beacon topper mod that is tied into the multiball as well as under cab that is tied into the bug flashers for that color of bug. Here is a video of it. You can skip ahead to around 1:40 when I activate the mulitball ready. And farther in as you watch you can see the under cab. Was a quick not trying at all game. Really I wasn't trying. Took me about 20 hours to put it together. About 20 minutes to install.

This is awesome! What price are we looking at?

Wow, $500 is a steal! I have to say this game never gets old. I've owned it for a year and a half and just played it last night for about 45 minutes

Welcome to the club!

Those seem like a bad idea... SST targets are translucent colored plastic that are lit from behind. Why would one someone put light-blocking decals on them?

While they do let some light through (and it's true they are translucent) I don't feel like opaque targets would really change the game. I think they just happen to be see through but that wasn't the original intent/goal of the targets. But I guess this just comes down to what you prefer.

drherman No I haven't tried those - hadn't even heard of them until you pointed them out. If you do get them do you mind sharing a pic of what they look like installed?

Quoted from Pinless:

Are the call outs on SST family friendly?

There are no explicit words. There are things like "get up, you maggots!" and things like that, but nothing any worse than that. I don't have any issues with my 7 and 5 year old kids playing it, and I'm pretty sensitive.

Quoted from Scorch:

I'll be joining the club tomorrow.
Just went and saw a pristine SST that must be HUO. Even has the unopened bag of goodies... couldn't find a single scratch or scuff on the cabinet. Needs LED's, probably some new rubber, and a clean and wax. Also, in the test, the red flashers weren't working... hope it's just the bulbs, but if not I may be asking for some help troubleshooting.
Picking it up for $2000 which I think is a pretty good deal these days. Current owner had no idea you could go in and change the settings, didn't know how to remove the glass or even that the backbox opened. He had it in his gameroom for the last 11 years and is downsizing.
Can't wait to get this baby home... I love the movie... Love how cheesy it is and the special effects set a new standard when the movie first came out.

Yeah, jump on that for $2k - nice find! I have had this game for years and still play it almost every day. I just had a monster game a couple nights ago where I got recon level 6 twice. Love this game. Welcome to the club (hopefully)!

Just to complete.... I replaced the flashers with LEDs and the right bank flashers now work. And yes.... it is insane with led flashers. I wonder if I can cover some of the SMDs ... maybe a little electrical tape?

I have fully swapped LEDs on mine all except the flashers. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't. What about using just standard frosted LEDs instead of LED flashers? Is that wrong to do?
