Almost all pinball machine power supplies have a fuse. So, a surge would have to blow the surge protector and blow the fuse. I really think it is a waste of time to unplug everything. Just make sure your circuit is grounded. I have two grounds on the house as well.

It almost never rains, and we NEVER have lightning storms In the east bay. So, I guess it also depends on where you live.
