Finally got notice my ACDC Premium is scheduled for delivery tomorrow

(the ONLY way to get me excited about April 15th in YEARs!)

Just curious if you all that are "old-hat" at buying these NIB pins are generally tipping your freight guy (assuming the thing isn't trashed!) and if so, how much?

Also, does anyone open it ASAP to check for damage? Or simply inspect the box condition?

Lastly, my gameroom is around the back of my house. it's down a gentle slope, into a walk-in basement. You think I could bribe the delivery guy to cart it back there (across the lawn ).

Yes- I would definitively offer some extra $$$$ for them to bring it around to the walkout basement entrance...

One thing I'm concerned about is- I don't have a paved walkway to it- its across grass.... might not be super 2-wheel-dolly-friendly.

hmmm, maybe some scrap plywood that I could shuffle ahead of it for the wheels of the dolly....

    Quoted from Magic_Mike:

You should never feel obligated to tip someone who is just doing their job.

true. buy their "job" ends at dropping it at the end of a 50ft driveway at the curb.... if they do more- i think its fair to pay more.

    Quoted from Magic_Mike:

When was the last time you tipped someone in the military?
    How about a school teacher?

I already pay both their salaries.... I'm not tipping them too!

But, seriously, we actually DO try to recognize them too (for good service):

We give gifts to our kids teachers....
We also volunteer with the USO (my kids bake cookies and send gift packages abroad).

So, to your point, I guess I still tip all those folks for good service...

But you took the conversation pretty far off track....

    Quoted from KloggMonkey:

Wikipedia defines tipping for me, "Tipping is a widely practiced social custom in the United States. Standards vary, but generally it is given for services provided in table dining, golf course, casino, hotels, food delivery, taxi cab and salons."
Sorry pinball delivery is not a tip-able job.

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet....

    Quoted from Magic_Mike:

Turned down $100, huh? I wish I could shake that man's hand.
His parents probably raised him with the same morals as mine.

    To be lazy? lol....

He offered the guy $100 to do some extra work- not as charity....

I'm surprised this thread was so controversial.... I guess I shouldn't be surprised... the world is full of the selfish and self-righteous.... dunno why i thought the pinball community was immune.

Well- much as I like internet-tough-guy-fights (complete with feather-swords), to bring my OP full circle:

ACDC pin was delivered today (7:30PM- last stop)

Driver lowered it from the liftgate, wheeled it up the driveway and asked where I wanted it.

I sheepishly said it ultimately needed to go around the back of the house, down the hill, across the lawn into the rec-room (walk-out basement) door.

Before I could start negotiating, he took off around the back of my house!

Gets it to the door- Im thanking him and reaching for my wallet, he says, "well- lets get it in the house!"

Embarrassingly, I have to move crap around in the room to get it in the door (other machine was in the way), all the time hes waiting on me. Long story short- he gets it in the door, unstraps it and takes the old pallet away.

I nearly had to force him to take $20 (he refused $40).

Class act. And by the way, this guy wasn't pulling down $100,000 and rolling in the dough. He busted his ass, went the extra mile and (unless he was a professional actor) wasn't expecting anything extra.

Afterwords, I started feeling bad that I didnt make him take the $40. I was thinking of calling his company tomorrow and complimenting them on his work... my only concern is I m not sure if I should mention he did some extra- last thing I want to do it get him in trouble (if theres some polciy about going into a home)....
